Re: My first ebike build: custom-built KMX-based electric velomobile

The batteries arrived a week ago. A printout of their delivered capacity during testing from the seller was provided. They were 15.51 AH and 15.35 AH respectively. This means 30AH when I parallel the two together is a given. I hadn't had much in the way of free time so I didn't get to fully install ...

Any info on the BMS? What about continuous discharge and pulse discharge ratings? Expected cycle life? Operating temperature? Charge temperature?

Re: My first ebike build: custom-built KMX-based electric velomobile

I took a 30.4 mile ride today. Total energy consumption was 7.8 wh/mi from the battery according to the CA3. I was cruising at 30-35 mph as normal, and don't recall catching any red lights during the ride and had very few stops. This thing is very efficient. I'm about to make a pack of two used Gree...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

If you're going to run under 4kW, i'd really recommend the ebikes.ca torque arms, fitted to the hardware of your choice. I had no problems with axle length on my 135mm rear motor. You're using the freewheel version of this motor. Is it possible that the cassette version I am using has a shorter spr...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Mine currently weighs 82 lbs with all the EV components but otherwise unladen. Add 20 lbs tools/food/water, 15 lbs work gear/PPE, and I'm also 140 lbs. That's 247 lbs all up weight. Without regen, I'd lose 3-5+ miles of range on this current pack. Once I install a larger battery, regen won't be as i...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Do the freewheel versions of these come with a longer axle on the drive side than the cassette versions? I recently obtained a much better paying job as an engineer and I'm looking at getting a 3T wind of the 1000W Leafbike in a 20" rim, or 16" motorcycle/scooter rim if that can be arrange...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

DNP freewheels are pretty junky and failure prone. Tell me about it. I've destroyed two of them! The big gear in each of them bent over like a toothless Texas truck stop lot lizard who just got into the passenger seat of a V12 Peterbilt with the methed-out operator in the driver seat, happy as can ...

Re: Searching for my personal battery apprentice

I sent you a PM before I made that post. Is it not in your inbox? When I go to work, I go to work sober, although I do like to use drugs in moderation at home when I have the spare money for them. I've been studying EV technology for decades, and sadly have never had the chance to put any of what I ...

That's because you've just never wanted to sloooooooow down. Which is what Methods said the vodka and pancakes were for. I don't understand the context of this statement. Do you have a link to the relevant post? I like alcohol on occasion(once or twice a month, and only when there's enough money to...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

I think the cassette side already has an M12 compatible pattern. I'm using an M12 nut on the cassette side, but I'm going to upgrade it to an automotive grade M12-1.50 wheel nut. I received the following email from Leafbike: if your motor from our company. We have washer and nuts to replace. (Put 2 ...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

I think the replacement nut stripped my threading on the cassette side of the axle. The odd thing is that it did not show any indication of cross threading when I installed it with a small crescent wrench and took very little force to turn. I was mostly able to turn it by hand. The nut was still tig...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

The cassette version of this motor has a smaller axle on one side, correct? Correct. if so, it's even more critical to use tight fitting torque arms! I would make your torque arm even stronger than this. You can see i had a long aluminum bar in one pic. A shorter distance would have been preferable...

have you tried downloading phaserunner suite to your cell phone so you can make changes on the road I do not own a smartphone. Recumbents generally are a bear to push for any distance, too. I'm going to try that.

I plan to do long-distance touring with this thing, regardless of whether I soon end up homeless or not, so keeping this thing reliable is of utmost importance. It is neither easy to carry nor inexpensive to tow or ship.

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

If the axle nut came off during regen, then it was already very loose, ready to fall off. Likely. This usually means, assuming it was tightened enough to start with, that the axle is rocking back and forth in the dropouts, even just a tiny bit, which eventually works the nut loose, and then vibrati...

hitting bumps like train track crossings at 46mph, how does the front suspension handle it? I haven't hit a railroad crossing at that speed. The rear wheel is unsuspended and there is a possibility that scenario could cause a loss of control. I plan to add a rear suspension when finances permit, wh...

I lost an axle nut today. I have the cassette version and while executing regen, an axle nut on the drive side came loose along with the oblong shaped washer. I couldn't find them on the road and they may have rolled off into a ditch or gutter. Does anyone know where I can source replacements? I wen...

Re: My first ebike build: custom-built KMX-based electric velomobile

Are you sure you want to go 46mph in that? NO protection there. Of course I do! What I don't want to do is WRECK at 46 mph, or really any speed for that matter. If one were to jump off of a 6 story building, they'd smack the pavement at close to 46 mph. I see people with tadpoles who have a flag ab...

Re: Critique this performance velomobile idea

Anyhow, I got the regen working great. The CA3 is displaying that my regen percent is between 3% and 10% depending upon the ride where it was noted. I've put 199 miles on the vehicle as an EV thus far and have placed 6 cycles on the pack. I even discharged the battery all the way down and got 8.95AH...

Re: Critique this performance velomobile idea

A little birdy whispered into my ear recently and told me that an ebike company we know and love has experimented with a DD hub with 0.27mm laminations. No timeframe was provided :/ Probably not Leafbike, since they already make DD motors with 0.27mm lams. Hopefully it's something that exceeds the ...
