Re: Potting Batteries, Thoughts and Experiments

Justin: is there any news on productizing these? A friend is working on a bike that these would be ideal for. I noticed that the non potted small packs are out of stock with no return date on your site.

thanks,
Alex

Re: Gas Tank style battery thoughts

If you build it right, you won't have to get up out of the saddle. If you need to do that, you need a bigger motor. I build bicycles, which to me are bicycles first and electric second. High-output riding while climbing is an enjoyable part of cycling. Since this is more of an e-bike forum than an ...

Re: Gas Tank style battery thoughts

A wide thing at the front of the top tube really gets in the way of out of the saddle climbing pedal strokes. I wouldn't put anything wider than about 50mm up there. Try it with a couple of foam blocks (yoga blocks or the like) before getting too far into your prototyping. I do have a 1kg battery (1...

Re: Power / Torque Sensor Roundup

A throttle is cheap and useful for debugging, but I don't have one installed. A 3 position aux switch is very nice. What does this switch do? I see that it is offered with many PAS kits (for example, http://www.ebikes.ca/shop/conversion-kits/direct-drive/crystalyte-front-hs-kit-advanced-pas.html ) ...

Re: Bafang/8fun SYXD-01F internal photos, gear modifications

The exception being high-speed mini's. They become current limited, pulling every Amp the controller will provide and still wanting more. This results in two distinque power curve forms past the no-load point. The rpm limited motor falls away fast and after a couple mph, has dropped far enough the ...

Re: Q100 and Q128 with 0.35mm laminations

Boosting my commute speed is exactly how I use my e-bike. It makes it possible to get around the city about as fast as a car does, and that allows me to use my e-bike instead of the car for doing stuff after work. I only ride the e-bike when I need to get somewhere faster (like making 5:30 boat call...

Re: Bafang/8fun SYXD-01F internal photos, gear modifications

I realized that I was confusing the Q100 disk rotor placement with the rotor placement on the similar Outrider motor that Grin sells: http://www.ebikes.ca/documents/MOutriderF.pdf That one has the disk rotor mount at 8mm from the locknut, which is 2mm out of spec. The Q100 looks fine. Sadly it looks...

Alex, In case Jasonv8z does not get back to you right away, on these questions , ( I had the same questions as you do here .. for him a while back ) , so in an earlier post or posts he mentioned . He is not going to offer a front hub for at least a while into the future, when they are available the...

Re: Q100 and Q128 with 0.35mm laminations

It would also be awesome to get these in 32 hole instead of 36 hole. There aren't good 36 hole 700C disk rims being made, but there are tons and tons and tons of 32 hole options. Can't you lace 32 holes rim to 36 holes hub? Not in any reasonable way. It would take a mix of spoke lengths and a lot o...

Re: Q100 and Q128 with 0.35mm laminations

Are you still only doing rear motors? I'm interested in a 330rpm front. The Q100 is available in this, but the Q100H doesn't appear to be. It seems like you are using the increased lamination count to get higher torque for the same weight (unless I misunderstood, which is likely). It would also be i...

Re: Bafang/8fun SYXD-01F internal photos, gear modifications

I removed the three screws and the plate didn't come off easily. I was running short on time and didn't explore much further. They did require an impact driver to remove. The drawings that I've seen for the Q100 show the disk at 8mm from the locknut on the axle instead of the standard 10mm. My fork ...

Re: Bafang/8fun SYXD-01F internal photos, gear modifications

I am a fairly fit cyclist, so the motor that I have only makes the bike about 5-10% faster than my other bikes for commuting in practice. It is close enough that I give myself the same allowance for ride times. That is why I'm interested in faster options. Sadly my headlight (IQ Cyo Premium E) handl...

Re: Making a through hole in a bikes head tube

The OD of the head tube on that bicycle should be 31.8mm. You should be able to make a 20mm hole (large enough to fit an 18650 battery into) there or into the bottom bracket shell. Neither of those is an awesome option, but it's better than any other option for hiding batteries in the frame. It is c...

Bafang/8fun SYXD-01F internal photos, gear modifications

(I had incorrectly posted this in the wrong forum, I'm moving it over here. Sorry if you've seen it twice) This is the hub used by the Faraday. I'm using one on my bike and selected it over other options due to the light weight (2kg vs 2.6kg or more for other Bafang alternatives) and the good disk m...

Re: Small capacity (4-5AH) high quality batteries

I got the batteries. They aren't the ones shown in the video, those are still in development according to Justin. They are still pretty nice compact batteries though, so I did a quick ad-hoc mounting and have them on my bike: https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5788/23744725556_540f738717_z.jpg Weight for...

Justin: Are these batteries for sale?

I thought this would be them, but it is a heat-shrink wrapped battery instead (similar dimensions, but not the robustness that these ones offered):

Re: Small capacity (4-5AH) high quality batteries

They are $108 using their 10% sale. That's pretty close to $100. They seem to be taking a few days to ship them however (not unexpected with experimental stuff). Thanks to the link to the other thread cycborg. I searched by part name and looked at recent threads on this forum about batteries and mis...

Battery (I don't find a big one to be valuable), controller, cav3, torque sensing bb and motor. Try to ride the tdcm before buying, it has a little play that is disconcerting and it's quite heavy. Re: Power / Torque Sensor Roundup

I tuned AGain and WGain up a lot and it is much more responsive. I think the default settings were so low that I was often accelerating as fast as the bike would (especially with a low torque multiplier). I can verify that it now starts in under one crank revolution if I start pedaling with the left...

Re: Power / Torque Sensor Roundup

Justin: Are there known good values for the AGain and WGain with the 15A controller and a 250W geared hub motor? Or does it vary too much bike by bike to have known good values? I've tuned PID loops before (for servos and VFDs on CNC machines), is AGain what would normally be considered proportional...

Re: Power / Torque Sensor Roundup

It has an insane width and is designed for their cranks. The Q factor is going to be huge, like the bbs motors.

I'm looking for e-bike parts that don't get in the way of riding the bike as a normal high performance bike. There isn't a lot offered.

Re: Power / Torque Sensor Roundup

Thanks for the advice Justin. I'm running the P9 firmware, I always read the release notes on later versions and hadn't seen any noted updates in the torque. It's good to hear that there have been changes. I'll do an upgrade and check my settings and let you know how it goes. I know that the Thun ha...
