Re: DH frames for freeriding

Grantmac, You opened this thread with the question of whether DH frames make good freerider frames but now you just announced that your interest is trials riding. I have looked into the Mtn biking sport of trials riding and see it started in Spain. But more noticeable was the acute dip in the frame ...

Re: DH frames for freeriding

Ianhill, "There's engineers pulling out hair reading this one for sure." ?? I doubt they would be over the issue you have brought to this thread: invariance. What you have discussed are zeroeth and first order effects. Meaning position is important and yes less weight is easier control. In engineeri...

Re: DH frames for freeriding

Grantmac, This LR big block looks like an increment up over the C3000 so to speak -- both in watts and $$$700.00 plus controller. We know the C3000 can do 4kw. http://lightning-rods10.mybigcommerce.com/one-stage-big-block-drive/ You can get low enough gearing with a big rear chain ring and this size...

Re: DH frames for freeriding

Grantmac,
I'm considering a bigger motor and ditching the gearbox.

I have thought of a bigger motor also. What s out there?

Re: DH frames for freeriding

Grantmac, Currently you are asking? All 3 edirtbike have the OEM nominal 40 amp controller included with the kit. 2 of them are the programmable version. I did have the 60 amp controller on one them. This bike was quite jumpy towards wheelies on any of the fast start settings and on the least soft s...

Re: new cyclone 3000 w mid-drive kit?

Luna Cycle has another controller for the C3000 rated at 4000w with. FOC sinewave output to motor. $200.

See: https://lunacycle.com/asi-bac-800-contr ... v-version/

Has anyone tried the ASI BAC 800 72v. Controller?

Note also: Made in Canada

I see the 800 is not yet available.

Re: DH frames for freeriding

Grantmac, So your gearing would allow you to accelerate up your steepest hill provided you could get traction? No, no acceleration, on the my steepest climb as measured with a digital level: (67% Grade) with 0 mph at the "V" of the gulley. Only when conditions are right ( dryness/wetness ) do I get ...

Re: DH frames for freeriding

Grantmac, You say, I think that backpack batteries are less of an issue the more you move your body around the bike. I would say a better wording would be: backpack batteries are more of an issue the more you need to move your body QUICKLY to correct the bike attitude. Simply F = Ma, the More M, the...

Re: DH frames for freeriding

Grantmac, With my current gearing I'm limited by traction more than anything else. Would you say that it's similar for you? Gearing? No, I can do burnouts. Traction? You never have enough. Tires? To get a more aggressive tread (I am have the most aggressive out there)) I would have to switch to a mo...

Re: DH frames for freeriding

Grantmac, The pedals for cranking are recovery tools and used in just two situations: the failure of power transmission from the motor to the BB and a last ditch effort to climb one more step hill when the batts are low. Here they are used as assist. "Do you peddle at all or are they just for show"?...

Re: DH frames for freeriding

Ianhill, The seat attitude on this uphill bike was modified this AM. It now has a low spot (dip) which is somewhat ahead of a traditional seat location as those seats are set up for getting the best power angle on the pedals. Also the 8" of rear wheel travel has clearance with respect to the back of...

Re: DH frames for freeriding

Grantmac, Dingus: Is that a 3000w cyclone? Total reduction of 2.75:1 from gearbox output to wheel? What voltage? Yes, a Cyclone 3000. Currently the max voltage is 3 x 25.2 = 75.6 volts. Gearing: 1/(22/44 x 32/44) = 3 Since you'll have two considerations when deciding gearing which are enough torque...

Ianhill, and the ktm seat backwards is just right up my street good improvisation : Backwards? I know it has an odd look but it was purchased eBay as a used KTM sx 85 seat. I did google KTM sx85 and from the first picks displayed it looks my mounting of the seat is not backwards. I see however the s...

Re: DH frames for freeriding

Antenor,

No I do not but a lot of these ideas are on the Cyclone 3000 thread.

This thread is a somewhat likely title to carry on such particulars as you might need from my builds with a DH frame.

Re: DH frames for freeriding

Hillhater, Any ebike, especially serious off road ebiles , ride so much better wothout the battery fixed to the frame. A backpack battery is a huge step up from fixed packs, and often much more secure from theft. I disagree. I move around one hell a lot while standing on my pedals and lever the bik...

Re: DH frames for freeriding

Grant, Choose gearing so as to do at least 20mph full throttle or so that you have enough torque to climb the hills you want. One of my bike's gearing is (f to r) 22 44 32 44. I used a White Ind motor cog -- they last forever. You will need a chain tensioner. IMG_0188.jpg A projection Racing spider ...

I do not know how Manitou forks compare to Fox 40 but one of these 3 eBay frames came with Rokshox Boxxer, what a dud it was.

Only negative of DH frames is they generally have little space for a battery.

Tommm, Oh do think outside the "triangle" and you can construct a lot of places to carry batteries.

Re: DH frames for freeriding

Ianhill, I would say you have an electric motorcycle not an edirtbike build from simply a bike. I bet though it was fun to have built it. Re: DH frames for freeriding

Antenor, I think specialized big hit 2006 is a great frame to eletrification. Re: new cyclone 3000 w mid-drive kit?

Tommm, Caps are 80v on older ones, 100v on new ones. So no point pushing it past 72v nominal which will be 84v max already. The opening page of the emotor program when used on the programmable controllers displays 87 volts as 100%. When running my C4000 at 100volts which is full charge, the emotor ...

Re: new cyclone 3000 w mid-drive kit?

Backwards? Forwards? Chain tensioner on wrong side? I presume the chain tensioner is for the motor chain which runs from the motor cog to a chain ring mounted on the bottom bracket axle. The most common mounting location for the Cyclone motor is in front of the BB and this puts the chain tensioner b...

Re: new cyclone 3000 w mid-drive kit?

Resolved: which hand to control the rear brake on an Edirtbike? My two Cyclone 3000 edirtbikes are built from Specialized Big Hit downhill frames and they each have one gear only which is suited to the terrain I ride. The Standard: about 100% of the Mtn Bike retail sales have the rear brake actuated...
