Re: new cyclone 3000 w mid-drive kit?

Backwards? Forwards? Chain tensioner on wrong side? I presume the chain tensioner is for the motor chain which runs from the motor cog to a chain ring mounted on the bottom bracket axle. The most common mounting location for the Cyclone motor is in front of the BB and this puts the chain tensioner b...

Re: new cyclone 3000 w mid-drive kit?

Resolved: which hand to control the rear brake on an Edirtbike? My two Cyclone 3000 edirtbikes are built from Specialized Big Hit downhill frames and they each have one gear only which is suited to the terrain I ride. The Standard: about 100% of the Mtn Bike retail sales have the rear brake actuated...

Re: new cyclone 3000 w mid-drive kit?

Kachou, I am not going to work through your format making "corrections". My format would include stated goals like the use of a min-max strategy. e.g. Simply: properly placed Gear clamps work to stabilized the motor frame in the harshest of conditions -- McGee. Others have built machined pieces to w...

Re: new cyclone 3000 w mid-drive kit?

Making KEYS The local ACE Hardware has some quite sophisticated key grinding tools and a huge selection of key blanks but they could not make a working key for the throttle-voltage RO and key lock that comes as option with the C-3000 kits. They did make a key from an ilco YH38 blank that looked like...

Re: new cyclone 3000 w mid-drive kit?

Kachou, You say, "preparing for my first " ...cyclone build ... 'that seemed interesting and reliable'. This ebike building is not like Philosophy where we THINK we can determine all that is relevant apriori. I am quite sure if Gman or I had done a summary it would be somewhat different than yours a...

Re: Need to lower standover height

Eltee, 1. Simply cut off the seat tube top that stands above the top tube. Make it as flat to the top tube that can be achieved without sacrificing the structural integrity of the joint below. 2. Get a seat post that adds the least height in its clamp-to-the-seat location. 3. To prevent the seat pos...

Re: Cyclone 4kW mid-drive self-engineered project

Tubeglower, Range: With the stated batts, 3x 6s 12 aHr. difficult sidehill terrain uses about 1aHr/ mile. On new LiPo's I have gotten about 90% of stated capacity when going to a low of 3v per cell. This riding area has no shelfed-in trails, some zones do get pounded flatish. For easier trail I figu...

Re: Cyclone 4kW mid-drive self-engineered project

Tubeglower, 70 km for top speed is slightly lower than what I would expect with the 4kw motor and a low profile person as I have gotten 42 mph on an "S" works hardtail Specialized with the 3kw motor. I have an early model Specialized Big Hit set up as an edirtbike. The unmodified frame bike setup we...

Re: Cyclone 4kW mid-drive self-engineered project

Tommm, Setting up two batteries parallel is pretty tricky, they will go out of balance and will fight each other. Better to have a big pack that can supply enough amps and if you really need another small one to extend range, possibly in your backpack. You will end up using the one you mount on the...

Re: How good is Cyclone 4kw coaxial suspension bike?

Tommm, Of course, being so far out of alignment that we have to use washers is bad design. But, being able to move the brakes sideways inside the adapter is by purpose, it doesn't have to do with the bike. If you set up a big name mtb you will need to use this little wiggle room to have a precise f...

Re: How good is Cyclone 4kw coaxial suspension bike?

Tommm, the design is like that by purpose . Nonsense....frocking Nonosense. I suppose that my 4 Specialized bikes' disc brakes hardware just happened by design that they were made to fit perfectly for Shimano adapters with no washers ? There likely are some placement standards for the disc brake br...

Re: How good is Cyclone 4kw coaxial suspension bike?

Now that I have had this bike and modifications working for some time I will give another report. It is very quiet, much quieter than the Cyclone 3000 at its quietest. I am running 24S Multicraft 12Ah on the 60 amp controller which is about 100 volts when fully charged -- fast when on throttle setti...

Re: new cyclone 3000 w mid-drive kit?

Tommm, With the bluetooth controllers you can customize yourself a soft start, then it will be as tame as you want. "Tame" may be correct, but despite you are very unlikely to do wheelies while hill climbing with the soft setting, the CA-V3's throttle adjustment beats all the programmable controlle...

roveing,

By another c3000 motor and controller as you likely need one or the other or maybe both of them. Then you can use this working system to plug and play one at a time of the suspected not working components of your old motor/controller to find out which pieces are not working.

Re: new cyclone 3000 w mid-drive kit?

Checking my CA-v3 i see my temp shut down settings are quite close to Spinning Mag's temp limits. The settings are: retard allowed power when motor reaches 90C and shut down all power to motor at 96C. All BDCMs obey Thevanins Equivalent Circuit for Power. At maximum motor output power the efficiency...

Why overheating?? Hard Riding? Give me a break. This is lame reasoning that does not address the cause of the problem.
