US grants for electric vehical manufacturer.

I own a bussiness and I'm moving into electric vehical manufacturing. I know that there has been billions of dollars allocated to grants to stimulate this market in the US. I was wondering if anyone here has tapped into this resource. And if so, how did you do it and what was your experience like?

Re: Power supply for headlights and breaklights.

Thanks guys for the advice. I'll do a little more homework on what was posted. By the way... I've found a few components that may do the trick. I was looking at switching power supplies and came across this: http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Texas-Instruments/LM2679SX-12-NOPB/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMsMIqGZi...

Power supply for headlights and breaklights.

I'm working on a motorcycle and I would like to tie a headlight and break-light to the battery pack (LiFe/20 cell @ 20aH each) 60 volts all together. I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions on a good DC/DC regulator. I would like to have a 12 volt DC switching power supply (switching for the efficie...

Well, that sucks. Just another reason to start manufacturing batteries right here in 'Merica!

Re: Apple working to develop an EV ?

First off, Apple has made very little to no attempt to increase their battery life on the iPhones. I'm sure I'll enjoy my driving "experience" in the Apple car for the 20 minutes it will last haha.

But you know what, if it gets more people thinking about electric vehicles, I'm all for it.

Re: Ford Smart Mobility ebike

Ford should do what Honda did in 80's with the Civic and Motocompo: product_12805792_o_4.jpg motocompo-ad02.png The Civic came with a Motocompo so you can park your Civic in the city and ride around on your Motocompo short distances. Ford should include this e-bike in the back of one of their models.

Re: What is Holding E-Bikes Back

1. At this moment, there is one profitable electric motorcycle company in the US; Zero. They look good, but up close, you can see where they cheaped out on certain parts of the bike. I wouldn't expect this from a $15,000 motorcycle. There needs to be more competition. 2. The electric motorcycle dist...

Re: lipo explosion video

NCM looks like a good motorcycle battery solution. I know Zero is looking at this for future models. Do you know if these batteries are price friendly at this point?

LiFe was a good balance of capacity, availability, safety, and price ($/charge).

Re: lipo explosion video

LiPo batteries have very high charge density. I love using them for my quadrocopter. However, I'm using LiFe chemistry for my electric motorcycle project. I've been told that LiFe chemistry is less volatile than Lipo (with a bit less charge density). I would hate to pierce my battery pack full of Li...

Re: No light rail in CA

A few years ago, former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, visited Japan and China to get some "tips" on how to build high-speed rail. After years of debate, we're finally moving forward with the project. However, it looks like I won't be taking the high-speed train from LA to San Francisco ...

Re: LiFe battery with bare case.

I did buy the batteries directly from the manufacturer. In their defense, they did give me a discount and told me beforehand that they would be sending me batteries in this condition (no sleeve). It was this or I would have had to wait till April when they make the batteries with the sleeves. Beyond...

Re: Triangle Battery Pack

This battery pack looks good. Comes with charger and BMS. Not bad for $700.

The 1500W motor limit is a bit lame though. Well it depends on your project... would work good on a bicycle platform.

Re: LiFe battery with bare case.

OK... As requested from wb9k, I checked to see if the case had parasitic capacitance and indeed it did. The pack, when assembled, induced voltage on the cases themselves. The case is not tied directly to any of the terminals. I checked the other cells and found this same behavior. So, I ordered some...

Re: LiFe battery with bare case.

20150202_235048-2.png Pulled a single cell out of the pack and found that the case is in fact connected internally to ground. I was really hoping that the case was electrically isolated so that I can pull heat out of the pack with more efficiency but I guess I'll have to add insulation to each case...

Re: LiFe battery with bare case.

I can assure you that the battery cases are metal. When I measured the battery pack as a whole, I got roughly 60 volts (~60V). To be exact, I get 66.8 volts which is exactly the voltage I get when I measure it across the negative and positive terminals of the pack. When I received the batteries, I t...

Re: LiFe battery with bare case.

Attached is a picture of my setup for testing purposes: 20150202_235048-2.png The bare metal cases are all touching each other. Each cell is connected to the BMS. I can charge them successfully and the BMS has no problem balancing the cells. I can run the motor with no problem; nothing overheats. Wh...

LiFe battery with bare case.

I put together a LiFePo4 3.2V 20ah (60v all together) pack from Hangzhou Liao: http://hzliao.en.alibaba.com/product/673618911-215253674/LiFePo4_3_2V_10ah_battery_cell.html The batteries actually came with a bare metal case (no protective sleeve). I didn't think much of it and continued to put the pa...
