Re: PV NextGen FOC 130v 200/600A 25kw - $599, Watch Display

Seems like a kid trolling. Searched all threads where I posted (not even my threads) and posted this same thing everywhere, revenge kind of deal. Seems like created the account for the trolling purposes. 6 posts from this user total on the forum and all the same thing. Thank goodness I didn't sell a...

Re: PV NextGen FOC 130v 200/600A 25kw - $599, Watch Display

I know this has been done before but never tested. Sinusoidal controllers use hall signal all the time to detect the rotor position. FOC favors BEMF for the motor phase detection. Not sure how well that will work with two sets of copper coils sitting on a single stator. The other option is to split ...

Re: PV NextGen FOC 130v 200/600A 25kw - $599, Watch Display

We have had good results testing IPM motors so far. As an example, a QS middrive motor tested well. Some can take 25kw bursts. They seem to be mostly IPM now, but I would make sure before buying. There is no reason why other more expensive IPM motors wouldn't work. There is at least a couple of impl...

Re: PV NextGen FOC 130v 200/600A 25kw - $599, Watch Display

The hardware is capable of running AC induction motors and it's already capable of running them in the open loop mode. Running AC motors in FOC would be a matter of software update. I think there is a change that such support will be added in the near future. However, considering the target applicat...

Re: PV NextGen FOC 130v 200/600A 25kw - $599, Watch Display

In theory, it should work. Over CAN, the motors are synced with understanding that they are on different axles with ability to control traction. I think it would be best, however, to implement the exact logic that would be needed to keep two pairs of phases in a single motor in sync. You mention bei...

For this motor, it won't make much difference.

It should work fine in sensorless mode.
As for sensored mode, I heard people had issues. Possibly due to noisy hall signals.

What it means in terms of performance or operation to run this controller in sensorless mode?

What was thing mentioned about Cyclone, do these work sensored with 3000W cyclone motor? Bump. Curious about the 12F working with the cyclone...

If you are planning to ride in a rain or there is a chance the bike can go under water, you should worry about those things. The holes with multiple wires, however, are pretty tight as well but, for complete peace of mind, can be easily sealed with silicon. Yes, I am not so worried about the holes w...

Re: PV NextGen FOC 130v 200/600A 25kw - $599, Watch Display

All holes have rubber grommets in them. Phase and battery wire holes are very tight and technically water proof. If mounted the way I showed above, that's where I would expect water and dirt to hit the controller the most. The other holes are tight enough for most situations. However, if the control...

Re: PV NextGen FOC 130v 200/600A 25kw - $599, Watch Display

The size is now 51 x 78 x 225 mm or 2'' x 3'' x 8'' 7/8. The main reason why phases and battery connections are wired on one side and signaling/inputs are on the other side is to minimize noise injection into the control circuits. You want to keep the high voltage and high current wiring away from y...

Yes, CC and CV modes are supported. As well as gradual ramp up. Any PSU with a voltage lower than the target battery voltage will work. The input current limit and the battery charging current can be configured. Eventually, the firmware will get more sophisticated to allow setting up charging schedu...

You can find instructions here: http://powervelocity.com/blog/bluetooth-module/ Be careful when you plug it in. If plugged incorrectly, the module can get fried. You can bundle the module into the wire harness. I put it inside the frame. Some people put it in the battery bag. Depends on how your bik...

Demo of the charge mode on the NextGen controller. Use any DC source lower than your battery max voltage.

Fully automated. Just plug in the charger and it will start charging. No need to press buttons, etc.

You can unplug the CA connector from the BT module and plug it into the CA if you like. In that case, the phone will not be showing telemetry, but programming will work. In other words, you can use the CA connector either with the BT or with the CA. If you make a splitter, you can technically plug b...

Re: 24F Silent Controller 20kw 100-150v iOS/Android- $299>

It's likely that 250A mentioned was actually phase current, not battery. Check on that. If it's Cyclone 3000, then it's rated for 3kw, well maybe double that. 20kw would evaporate the coils in it. Hey, I found this thread after looking for a 20kW controller to run with the 7-18kW motor from cyclone....

That's true. IMS has lower requirements for the copper weight, you can run approx. 2x more current compared to equal weight copper on FR4. I run 4oz, but also solder 1x5mm copper strip alone the power tracks to be sure there is enough ampacity for at least 500A. Where IMS+SMD power switches really s...

Re: VESC based +200A powerstage with 200V MOSFETs (videos of it in action)

The last time I checked, 2 layer IBS boards were expensive enough to not worth the trouble. This may be changing quickly though. One issue is that copper is often limited to 3-4 oz max and that's not enough to support the desired power ratings. For my purpose, 1 layer + copper strips work well so fa...

mFd, uF, µF. I guess I am old school. mF is something I saw written on my dad's boxes with electronic components decades ago, so mF just stuck with me. Sorry for the confusion. I know that my approach is non-orthodox and I meant it to do it differently this time. Is it ideal? No. Is there a room for...

Thanks for the note on the double pulse test. I attempted to pulse from within VESC firmware at some point but it didn't work at that time, so I just went on testing under load and monitoring the gate signals and the DC link. I am also using 3x 10mf PP Film caps on top of about 3F worth of electroly...

Re: VESC based +200A powerstage with 200V MOSFETs (videos of it in action)

I haven't gotten to measuring the inductance on the boards but signals look good under load. SMD power parts on FR4 would likely be a bad idea, but it works great so far on Aluminum substrate. I've never had much love for SMD power devices. How much parasitic inductance does the power pass section h...

AC charger inside the controller would take as much space (and weight) as the controller itself if done right. It has to be isolated design for safety. You may also not want to carry the charger on the vehicle all the time. With that said, there are already great power supplies like Flatpacks S 1800...
