Re: Kepler Friction drive comes of age.

Also a 1V to 4V output for a standard bike controller is needed for a standard ebike controller rather then a servo output. you could use a digital pot to get a ebike output https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10613 As stealthy as this is, you need a VESC on FOC and you really freak people out silent...

Re: Kepler Friction drive comes of age.

I just used the hub motor as an example, most are just 6355 or 6374 stators. the vesc works great sensorless! so much that I haven't bothered to try sensors. what esc are you using now? im not sure what you mean by the speed being the same, the wheel/motor make a reduction, so changing size will cha...

Re: Kepler Friction drive comes of age.

First off, this drive is so simple and elegant! I saw your post, and I've already been working on some servo ramping code for my esk8. Put together a quick test circuit and made some nice progress. :D The circuit is just a nano clone and a single button. I have rf remotes for my board so going wirel...

I was going to suggest this but wasn't sure of your background. It would be a very simple setup.
i'd use a trinket/digispark or something similar. you only need 1 analog and 1 pwm 8)

wow that foam copter remote is very similar to whats used with some cheap boards like koowheel.

If it is the same its actually nrf24 which could be hackable.(depends on the micro) I think i want one to mess with.

Re: First e-skateboard build

Nice to see more engineers coming into this hobby. for a single drive esk8 with 10s4p you can take your pick of cells. samsung 25p are popular. I like hg2 for the extra capacity. A vesc can safely handle 50A battery current, I use cheap lipo with lower settings and still get great performance. High ...

Re: Throttle Problem 1-4v hall to PWM

you should be able to calibrate your esc with the input.

it could also be the hall sensor throttle does not "use" the full travel.
or the interface circuit is crap.

Re: Turn hand controller off and the motor starts up

I have the mini remote too and it does the same when you turn off the controller. I think theres a way to fix that in the vesc settings but it hasn't been a real problem yet, just turn off the board first. the other issue seem like your supply just doesn't have enough power. try a 4s - 6s lipo pack ...

6s lipo = 3.7*6 - 4.2*6 = 22.2V - 25.2V (empty - full) 8s liFe = 3.3*8 3.6*8 = 26.4V - 28.8V if it works for 28v like chaka's it should work fine, but its still a risk...probably fine tho.. also you will need a different charger since life run on different voltage..most rc chargers have a setting fo...

Re: 190KV or 230KV For Quad Loangboard Setup?

those are pretty much the same batteries that boosted uses, x3 so you should be fine. The vesc setting is more of an upper limit, it won't regulate it or anything so you'll still get 42 - 38ish full to empty and 44/45v on braking... the more i think about all the mechanical i'm just seeing headaches...

that battery has a xt60, but i would use a xt90 with it for an anitspark key.

also get those batteries straight from hobbyking, half price! but i would look at the 8 or 10 ah packs, about the same price, but thinner and of course more capacity.

Re: Guys running printed pulleys- do your belts squeak?

I'm using a pulley printed with 3d solutions petg and it just started squeaking today, kinda blends with the motor noise so its not that much of an issue.

But i'm going to print another one with TPE (Flex ~90a ish) and see if that works better. its still stronger than abs, cheaper than nylon..

Do you plan on rolling up pike's peek? or pulling a group of longboarders up hills?

Surely overkill for anything else.
its going to weigh at least 50lbs to have enough batteries for 12kw!

anyways take lots of video and set an uphill speed record! 8)

@Saul - If your belt is sliding off it's because your motor pulley is not aligned properly. That's usually my issue. thanks, I was able to see the wobble and get it lined up straight enough after a few tries.. i think i'm going to try a 3d printed spacer/insert to help set it in place easier and wi...

Quick updates : I couldn't get enough budget for 2 skates but I ordered batteries and BMS for 1 skate! It will run 10S4Ah with max 70A of current, not that I will feed this much to the motor (or maybe I should?) I finally got my board out for a ride, set the current limit to 40A (on 12s) on vesc, m...

Re: 97mm Flywheel Clones + Custom gt4020 (50mm) 85kv

It is going to be 12s, just configuring the vesc on 6s because I read somewhere on here that bldc tool doesn't like high voltage. Not including losses... so you'll actually only get about 7-8mph. This is pretty much a normal cruising speed on a kick board, wouldn't mind this for a long flat ride, wo...

you can't use any switch like that for this much power.

You can either do a low tech xt keyloop with slow inrush momentary. <$10 kind of pretty

or a high tech antispark switch like vedders or diy's...alien.. $50-$60 But very pretty.

my guess is the motor doesn't like the 50+volts you're running through it and you'll probably smoke it the second you put any load on it. its only on 6s right now, and it was a setting issue because of the low kv. even still 12s is only 50v max, and i probably will only charge to 4.1 so 49ish. anyw...

Interesting to see printed parts becoming more popular. please post some pics when you have it mounted.

I wonder how long a printed pulley can last, even with the 15mm belt.
