Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

@Nordle:

You should connect

Gnd -> Gnd
Signal -> Signal
5V (VESC) -> unconnected, unless you need to power something from the VESC +5v line

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

Hey short question, is it possible to harm the VESC if I connected receiver wires wrong? I connect like this: RX(arduino) -to- VESC gnd ------------------- gnd signal ---------------- +(5v?) 5v pin ----------------- signal could that cause damage to my vesc?-.- or should the signal pin can handle 5...

Re: VESC - Custom Applications

Hey benj,

I have not tried requesting data from VESC yet, though I plan to do that. I'll let you know when I get it working. If you figure it out before I get to it, could you make a post about it here, too?

Re: VESC - Custom Applications

@erwincoumans: What are all the UART pin connections exactly on the VESC side and Arduino side? On the Arduino side, it's simple - they are marked RX, TX and GND. If there are more serial ports, they are RX1, TX1, RX2, TX2 etc. On the VESC side the UART port is on the PWR_COMM connector. See this sc...

Re: VESC - Custom Applications

Hi Benjamin, I've written a simple Arduino library (attached) to send commands to VESC over UART. Hopefully it can be useful to other people who try VESC, in addition to the c library that you are gonna write. I am using it on Arduino Due but it should work on all other Arduions too (knock on wood)....

Places to buy a sensored outrunner?

Hey guys, I am sure this topic has come up in the past, but I haven't been able to find it here. What companies sell sensored outrunners? I am looking for something in the 42 - 50 mm size.

@fasser: I see... No idea what could be the reason then.

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

@fasser: is your VESC from the Enertion beta batch? If so, you are the second person here who says that these VESCs hold the current below the limits set in the BLDC tool. The reason may be that the shunts used in this batch have a resistance higher than the spec, and the VESC sees the current of 12...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

@furp: I had two Enertion Beta VESCs also. In principle you can replace the capacitors yourself, if you are good with soldering. I went the easy way and sent my VESC to silviasol, he replaced the caps, and the price was good. Silviasol is his nickname on this board. Message him and see if he can do ...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

@furp: if your VESC is from the Enertion Beta batch, be aware that 8 ceramic capacitors on that board are off-spec (they are 1 uF instead of 10 uF). Ideally you would need to desolder those capacitors and replace them with the correct ones.

Re: Best motor?

Has anyone used inrunners paired with a planetary gearbox?

Judging by their specs, large inrunners have a better power/weight ratio than outrunners (due to having much higher RPM).

I am just wondering why I am not seeing such a build mentioned anywhere.

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

@Shep_pard: Hey pkondratyuk the active breaking is adjustable. You can adjust the max breaking current and the max regenerative breaking current(which goes back into the battery). I did not have a chance testing the regenerative breaking yet, but the normal active breaking is really nice and smooth....

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

Hi Benjamin,

So there are 8 ceramic capacitors that need to be replaced on onloop's VESCs, is that right?

An unrelated question: is it possible to control the strength of the active braking? Or is it only on/off? What about regen braking?

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

Having firmware updates through USB is great! 3) Can VESC put a brake on motor at 0 RPM and actively resist rotation in any direction? With hall sensors it can, but without sensors only regenerative braking is possible (at 0 RPM all motor phases will be shorted when braking without sensors). However...

Re: 10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

@vedder: thanks for developing this amazing piece of technology! It's gonna be incredibly useful for so many people. I have a couple of questions with regard to running these controllers, and I am hoping it's already described somewhere. Is there any documentation that explains how to communicate wi...
