E-bike Powered by Tool Batteries?

I was wondering if anyone has made an e-bike powered with batteries from any of the battery powered tools (e.g. Greenworks, Ego, Ryobi, etc). Seems like an interesting way to save on cost (if you already have the batteries) and make the power system modular (e.g. put in one battery pack for a short ...

Cycle Analyst v3 and TDCM Torque Sensor Question

Is it possible to set the throttle/current in the CA3 as a function of both torque and cadence from the TDCM torque sensor? Here is what I think I would like to do: Current = MAX ( Torque * A , Cadence * B ) This way the torque sensing gets you off to a nice, quick start. But once you have reached a...

Re: Listing of E-bike frame kits

Nice list. Are there any "stealth" frame kits that look more like a regular hardtail? I'm looking for something that looks and rides (aside from extra weight) like a regular hardtail bike for 500-1000 W rear hub motor. I haven't seen any. Maybe it's because it's easy enough to convert a regular fram...

Re: TDCM Installation Help

I contacted TDCM. Here was their reply: We noticed your question, and the effect on sensor torque output would be either 45 degree earlier or delayed. In your case, we would recommend that you should install your crank 45 degree forward. It is not a big problem. However, we still hope that you can c...

TDCM Installation Help

I just finished installing the TDCM torque sensor in my Trek 4500. The instructions specify a certain orientation of the bottom bracket spindle with respect to the crank arm (see image). However, the square taper on my crank is oriented 45° differently than shown in the instructions (see other image...

Can someone PM me an e-mail address for EM3ev.com? I keep getting a "Forbidden: Permission denied" error when I try to use their online contact form.

Thanks,

Re: Bafang CST Motor - No load test

Thanks for the input. I have it on a 26" rim, so it will actually run around 33 MPH with no load. (I used a bike computer from a different bike that is set up as a 29er. That's why the linear speed was reported as higher.) I will let you know how it works out. But it might be a couple of weeks befor...

Bafang CST Motor - No load test

I just received a Bafang CST motor from BMS Battery. I bought the 500W, 270 RPM motor: https://bmsbattery.com/ebike-kit/589-bafang-36v-cst-rear-driving-e-bike-motor-wheel-ebike-kit.html On the motor, it says: CST 36V500W 26 1506 7052-6 Is there any way to confirm that this is the 270 RPM motor? I've...

Re: EMotion Neo Cross

Awesome! I rented a Neo Cross earlier this summer and really enjoyed it. It convinced me that torque sensing is the way to go (although I still haven't tried cadence yet.) I decided to try to build something similar myself. Hopefully it turns out at least half as fun to ride. Enjoy!

Questions about Q128C Motors

https://bmsbattery.com/ebike-kit/768-q128c-135mm-500w-rear-driving-ebike-hub-motor-ebike-kit.html 1. Is a 328 RPM @ 36V different from a 328 RPM @ 48V? Are they wound differently? 2. Which one (including the 201 RPM windings) would be the closest to the 500W Bafang CST @ 270 RPM? And how does it com...

Re: Trek 800 Dropout Width

Thanks for the info. I ended up not needing to file anything, not width anyway. It was a fairly snug fit, but it fit. Although as you pointed out, I may need to file it a little deeper so that the center of the axle sits where it was intended to on the frame.

First Build Info - Trek 800, Bafang SWXH

Here's info on my first bike build in case people are interested or it helps others: Background - This is my first bike build. The motivation was to build a bike for my brother. He can only pedal with one leg due to an injury. This makes going up hills very difficult. So the goal was to build someth...

Re: Will This Combo Work?

I contacted GreenBikekit.com and they said the SWXH comes with the 9 pin connector and is compatible with the integrated controller. I asked a follow up question about whether or not the SWXH has an internal speed sensor. I'll let you know what I find out.

Thanks for the help!

Re: Will This Combo Work?

Thanks. Two follow up questions: 1. Does the Bafang SWXH have an internal speed sensor? I couldn't find anything conclusive on this. But the controller I'm planning on using requires it. 2. Does anyone know if this controller will work okay without the PAS? Maybe this is a dumb question. But I wante...

Trek 800 Dropout Width

Do people ever have too modify dropout widths to install hub motors? I'm looking at putting a Bafang SWXH on a Trek 800. The drawing for motor says the flat-flat dimension is 10 mm +0.0/-0.1. I'm measuring the width of the dropouts to be roughly 9.5 mm with calipers. I wiped both sides to make sure ...

Re: Will This Combo Work?

Thanks. But I like the controller built into the battery. It seems like it will provide a nice clean look (less cables, no controller to mount separately.) The wheel kit is only ~$30 more than the hub motor by itself. I want to get it laced into a rim and I don't mind having a few little pieces to p...

Will This Combo Work?

I'm looking for a simple set up. Will this motor and battery/controller combination work okay together? Does this controller limit the current in a throttle only application? Thanks in advance! I see that there are some redundant components between the two kits. I'm okay with that. 36V10AH Samsung f...

Re: Help Selecting a Kit/Components for First Build

Thanks for all of the input! And thanks for the warm welcome. Good point about the Trek 800 having a freewheel. I didn't actually check. So the recommendation for the 100H with higher torque is well received. I may have overstated the hill grade. I don't have a good practical feel for that. On the r...

Help Selecting a Kit/Components for First Build

First time poster, 3 weeks of lurking. I’m looking for some guidance on a bike I’m converting for my brother. He can only pedal with one leg due to an injury. But he enjoys riding his bike and it’s a good form of exercise. However, he is limited to mostly flat roads/paths because he has trouble goin...
