Re: Charging dolphin pack with a 5amp charger

The plug/socket on the battery may only be rated for 3 amps, so might overheat and melt.

to add: I have had a em3ev Dolphin pack and this is what Paul has said.

Re: Help! Batteries discharging quickly

It is not necessary to load test separately. You can do the whole string at once with by connecting to something like a heater. I use one or two of those oil filled Delonghi ones, or light bulbs. Then periodically take the voltage of each battery and record over time to see if any are seriously lagg...

Re: Help Me Build My Daily Commuter?

Radrover can be increased to 24mph limit (40kph) in menu setup. There is a facebook group for Rad bikes. Edited to add - there are some used 2016/2017 RadRovers Juiced Cross Currents near me between $1000-$1200. I would try to talk them down. Then, I would be adding a ~$200-300 hub motor and control...

I'm wondering if you tried sliding the saddle back? Even 1 inch makes a big difference in handling.

Some things to try, is check headset for condition and proper adjustment. Lower handlebars. Move saddle back a few inches.

Re: How to connect wire to battery busbar

I would suggest Burndy compression lugs. Oh. Are those just standard lugs? As in, can I just crimp the wire to one end and then drill a hole on the bus bar to mount the flat side of the lug? Yes, but the lug has to fit your cable gauge exactly and you have to use a crimper with jaws made for that t...

Re: Battery Wiring N00b Query

I have a voltmeter. I know how to use it to check the voltage (one pin on each connector of my battery and it shows 40.6 volts) but guidance on how to tell which line is positive would be helpful. Having done that (however it's done) , I think I get it: find the positive wire on the charger and mak...

5P of PF cells are 2.9Ah * 5 = 14.5Ah. I have 4P of PF cells and don't have this kind of drop. It's usually 3-4V max when romping. Either your cells are old or not genuine
Is that 3-4 volt drop at 1400-1500w?

Re: Completely dead string?

All the cells in that one dead group are paralleled, so one bad cell would drain all the cells in that group. All the cells in that group are 0 volts, and most likely ruined.

Note: In battery terminology, "string" means serial string, not parallel group.

Take a look at your controller, it should have some specs on it like 7A continuous, 12A max current. The controller will determine how much current.

Take a look at the Meanwell HLG's in the classified section. Great deal @ 35.00 shipped. Quality should be commercial quality vs. the average plastic or kingpan charger.

Re: Cell Tower Batteries- Info

I do have a lot experience with these. I would charge them up and then take individual cell voltages to see if they hold a charge. They probably are somewhat damaged by not being on a charge for so long. For testing we used adjustable or automatic load banks that can keep a constant amperage and the...

Re: MAC 10T @ 36V vs 12T @ 48V??

People have been repeating the idea that the motor will always overheat if you go slow. When I had a 350w hub motor bike I would just put it in the granny gear and pedal like I would without a motor and add a 200w or 250w of assist (as seen on a Cycle Analyst) with partial throttle and the crawl up ...

The controller will have a low voltage cutoff of around 31V, so won't work. You could use 3 12v sla's.

Re: Want to change from SLA to lithium

Does lithium charge ok in subzero temperatures ? No, charge at room temperature only. See: http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/charging_at_high_and_low_temperatures Li ion can be fast charged from 5°C to 45°C (41 to 113°F). Below 5°C, the charge current should be reduced, and no charging is ...
