Re: Long tail cargo bike build

I have also been designing and building panels to 'box in' the rear triangle, to house all my electronics. cardboard templates are always a good place to start: https://i.imgur.com/DzdNuys.jpg https://i.imgur.com/srs0TeP.jpg I then replicated this onto aluminium composite panel. This is 3mm in thick...

Re: Long tail cargo bike build

I changed the handlebars for some I had laying around. They were lighter and actually looked better in the end. Mad Max stylings. I tapped small threads into the cross brace for mounting the bracet of the motorcycle light: https://i.imgur.com/jDZyfl8.jpg https://i.imgur.com/CHTjG8z.jpg Overall looks...

Re: Long tail cargo bike build

The lighting rig has been compressed and housed neatly. I needed to go from the prototype down to this: https://i.imgur.com/vd7S72D.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Xz1mZdR.jpg the little circuit boards are inline LED flasher circuits. https://i.imgur.com/OB5CgdG.jpg https://i.imgur.com/F4xpA5c.jpg https://i...

Re: Long tail cargo bike build

I have been putting effort Into the electronics. I have made this switch box that will mount to the top tube. It will be the main power on and off for the controller, 3 way switch for the 3 speeds and a switch to turn the lights on and off. It also houses a small voltmeter, that will output the volt...

Re: Long tail cargo bike build

Thanks APL. So I haven't made huge progress but I do have almost every part I need now. Rear wheel is now built, currently with just the outer shell of a Bafang CST motor. I am going to continue using my current CST that I have over 6000 miles on. So that my current bike is not taken off the road I ...

Re: Long tail cargo bike build

So I managed to get 4 coats of matt clear coat on all the frame parts and stand. The first I did was a bit heavy and had a couple of runs. I managed to dab these away once they had run to the bottom, then with 3 lighter coats I managed to get rid of most of the imperfections. I am not too confident ...

Re: Long tail cargo bike build

I mentioned it before,.. but I'll say it again, so I can sleep at night,.. paint fumes in an enclosed area are explosive. :flame: You'll need to ventilate that container somehow,.. to be safe. Good luck on your paint job! :thumb: hey. thanks for the reminder. im certainly going into the deep end wi...

Re: Long tail cargo bike build

I have an entire 20ft+ long, empty shipping container to my disposal for a weekend. I was thinking making a false room to the back of it, with plastic sheeting gaffa taped up and a set of halogen lights on their tripod. Somehow work out how I can possibly hang the frames from the middle of the ceili...

Re: Long tail cargo bike build

Ah, I understand. I was slightly worried the compressor was a bit small. Im not at that location, but it's only a small, Stanley horizontal cylinder. I have never adjusted anything on it tbh, though it has a guage. Will take a look on Friday when there next. Saturday I plan to spray, so will take so...

Re: Long tail cargo bike build

Are those 2 controls (fan and pressure) controls on the actual gun? Not even opened the box yet.

Thanks for info on grounding etc. Would never have known that. I'm awaiting a free weekend as well as for the temperature to rise a bit. I live in the UK.

Re: Long tail cargo bike build

Hey. Thanks for the advice. I'm planning on painting in an empty shipping container. I was going to make an internal room out of thin hanging clear plastic. I just bought this air gun - https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F223141889712 And already had a ...

Re: Long tail cargo bike build

If you *really* want springers, you *could* build a set (or modify some) so that they *do* actually function as you need them to. :) That's true. Is it something you have done? No, but it can't be any harder than building the SB Cruiser trike itself, or CrazyBike2. [emoji38] I've designed the basic...

Re: Long tail cargo bike build

so I have been buying the odd bit here and there while I work out all the different elements. I arranged some of the frame work outside to do some more visualising, so these are below. the runner boards will sit on top of 18mm black painted/varnished plywood. they will be slightly shaped in one way ...

Re: Long tail cargo bike build

Ah, I see. Fair enough, it's a shame they are not a good option, as I love how they look. :-) will stick with fox float 80 RL air forks then.

Re: Long tail cargo bike build

Ok, thanks for the info. I was wondering whether the more expensive versions negate some issues due to having bushings and adjustability. This one: https://tspcyclefarm.it/en/custom-bicycle-fork-demon-springer-fork-en Or this one: http://store.ruff-cycles.com/ruff-cycles-bicycle-parts/frontend/forks...

Re: Long tail cargo bike build

If you put springer forks on the front end of a cargo bike you will need to figure out a way to make them adjustable. I have a Surly big Dummy and the first thing I learned when fully loading it was that the front needs to be a little heavier than the rear otherwise the handling gets a bit screwy. ...

They're garbage. Don't waste your time.
Is it something you have tried yourself or had experience with?

Re: Long tail cargo bike build

So, I have received some cheap fox float 80 RL forks. However, I am heavily considering getting some springer type forks for this build. I love the way they look, am actually quite up for adding weight to the front of this build, to balance the handling. I am really after a low maintenance fork that...

Started making a grill for my front light. Undecided whether to paint black, leave raw so it rusts or leave raw and clear coat.

Re: Long tail cargo bike build

So I have been putting a lot of thought into the switches that I need on the handlebars. I think I have settled on the following: https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/c4HlbKup 1x of these replacing half the clamp on both of my hope brake levers. Also then giving me extra mount points for wing mirrors/ot...
