Re: Built a BBS02 bike, mistake?

Thanks for the help everyone, finally got the bike done and it's working great. I ended up with a smaller battery, but I'm getting to and from work on a single charge even with hard fast riding :)

Re: BBS02 commuter road bike

Good to see a drop bar BBS02 build. I had considered it, ended up going with a bike with front suspension. How rattly is it on your hands? Cheers, nice work on the build. Thanks! It's not terrible, as long as I get my butt off the seat before big bumps. I'm used to riding a regular road bike, but m...

Re: BBS02 commuter road bike

Do you have a picture of the throttle? I have installed the bbs02 on my road bike but removed it since it is hard to use the throttle correctly with drop bars. Sorry I removed the throttle, only using pedal assist now. I thought I would want throttle initially, due to not using ebrakes, but I have ...

BBS02 commuter road bike

For the last year I commuted 4 miles each way from my house in Seattle to my work in Seattle via bicycle. It was a great 15-20 minute ride through the city, bringing me smiles and near death experiences every week. We moved out to Bellevue a few months ago, increasing my commute to roughly 14 miles ...

Re: Built a BBS02 bike, mistake?

So the 48V battery doesn't work today either? You did try it again after the new 52V failure? Sorry, just want to be clear. Things go south when I get frustrated and I can miss a detail. Just want to confirm. No the 48V battery is working fine, other than having really short range. The 52V battery ...

Re: Built a BBS02 bike, mistake?

Ok so I have 2 batteries, the original is 48v, the new one is 52v, both are 20ah. The original one works, as in I can charge it and the bike turns on and everything works fine, but I only get 10-11 miles of range, even with slow easy riding. The replacement battery took a charge just fine it seems, ...

Re: Built a BBS02 bike, mistake?

If you bought a 52V 14s battery, then it should charge to 58.8V fully charged. Are you using the proper charger? Probably not. I have the charger than came with the 48v battery. It says 54.somethingV3A on the side so I figured it would work fine with the new battery. Damn so I need a different char...

Re: Built a BBS02 bike, mistake?

So I received the new battery yesterday, charged it all morning, battery charger says it's done, reads ~54V on the multimeter. Plugged new battery into BBS02, hold power, display flashes on and then off again, as if the battery is dead. It never behaved like this with the old battery.

Ideas?

Re: Built a BBS02 bike, mistake?

My charger is a 3A, took something like 5 hours to charge the old battery. I never timed it so can't be sure. I managed to zip tie the throttle close enough to the right brifter to use it while riding, but I like the PAS better so far. Currently the throttle is off the bike and Im just using PAS. I ...

Re: Built a BBS02 bike, mistake?

For flat road riding, why deal with the complexities and wear issues of a mid drive. I don't believe It was ever intended for that. It's forte is the adaptability to using a vast array of gearing options for integration into more varied rides / riding situations. Nothing beats this type of drives a...

Re: Built a BBS02 bike, mistake?

. Luna batteries were supposed to be good . Did Luna not check the batteries when building the pack ? Sounds like the battery pack to me... Sheesh. That was already determined, bad battery pack and Luna is replacing it. You won't see that happen with a China battery. It doesn't get better than Luna...

Re: Built a BBS02 bike, mistake?

On my regular bike I usually just leave it on the big crank and one of the hardest gears, as I enjoy pedaling hard at a low cadence. Diesel, why do you want to hurt yourself? They make gears for a reason. :P Seriously, it does sound like you cooked a few cells with max current demand from the batte...

Re: Built a BBS02 bike, mistake?

Thanks for the input everyone. Erica at Luna Cycle agrees there is something wrong with the battery, so it is heading back this week for a replacement. I decided to go with a different model for the exchange. The original battery was the 48v 20ah 26f model, the new one coming is a 52v 20ah 25r trian...

Re: Built a BBS02 bike, mistake?

You have a weak cell, or you have high resistance somewhere in the circuit. A bad cell is found by monitoring every cell, if they are all good then find the hot spot after a ride (or test impedance to locate what is draining your battery). A definite possibility. One side/corner of the battery feel...

Re: Built a BBS02 bike, mistake?

Thanks for the input everyone. I have been able to go 25 mph uphill with the BBS02, but the motor seemed to get pretty hot. I will install a temp probe in it soon so I can watch the heat. izeman, I was under the impression I could make it 20+ miles with the 48v 20ah battery, so I agree my current ra...

Re: Built a BBS02 bike, mistake?

Thanks for the input amberwolf, I will get the inline meter thing wired early next week, waiting on an order of connectors and wire to show up. I may try and scavenge some parts to get it wired up tomorrow so I can do testing over the weekend. The first day I rode with the BBS02 I pushed it pretty h...

Built a BBS02 bike, mistake?

Hi all, I've been lurking here for quite a while, finally got my first ebike build finished a few days ago and I am wondering if I made a mistake with my setup. I ordered my battery and BBS02 from Eric at LunaCycle, who has been very pleasant to deal with. The battery is a "48v Samsung 18650 20ah eb...

Re: Raged Cube Reaction 29er Cyclocross BBS02 Build Thread

Hi, I'm working on my own bbs02 bike with drop bars. When you get the chance, could you post a few more pics of your throttle setup?

Thanks!
