Re: TO-220 FETs (De)Soldering Technique

SInce they are standing up, I suppose I would snip off the leads with a small side cutter. Solder sucker, solder iron, and pliers should get the remnants out.

Re: How do I test a BMS to make sure its working?

The BMS circuit gets it's power from the balancing wires, so can't work if they are disconnected. These circuits monitor each cell's voltage and will trip if any of the cells get too high or too low. The balancing function turns on a resistor across any cell that reaches the balance threshold volta...

Re: How do I test a BMS to make sure its working?

How did I do that., You have to use photo software to shrink the images below 500MB to post them. You can probably get a phone App to do that.

Re: How do I test a BMS to make sure its working?

So we know it's a 13S BMS, and it looks like a 52 cell 13S pack. Don't be using a 14S charger on a 13S pack. You can get away with it if you have a working BMS but it is quite risky. At this stage in your learning curve, don't be using it. You should also check all 13 series groups for voltage to ma...

Re: How do I test a BMS to make sure its working?

I was told that I could plug it in and actually measure the voltage on the balance leads, see it increase as I moved down the red charging wires coming from the 14 pin molex plug, but that doesnt work. The 72V version is having the same problem. Do these BMS units just suck? I wired them up just as...

Re: EZ-3 Trike upgrade to 18650 & using wire as a parallel fuse?

Nice looking trike. One of these days I want to get a Sun recumbent (EZ1) to electrify, and if I wait too long, it might be a trike.

No comment on fuses.

Re: HELP KT LCD3 error code 3

I'll put up a clearer pic. What we're doing is looping the 48V from the battery back into the controller to turn it on. This is what the LCD3 does when we press the center button, although it also activates an internal power supply to power up the LCD and also starts communicating with the controlle...

Re: HELP KT LCD3 error code 3

I've received KT controllers shipped with the controller input bypassed. On the 5 pin LCD plug, jumper green and yellow, red and blue. ANd this is what the instructions tell us. Could you clarify? Was your OEM bypassed controller wired differently than the instructions? No difference. They (PSWpowe...

Re: 40v Ryobi e-Bike

How did you go about "waking up" the battery? The bms doesn't let me read the full voltage when I'm just poking at the battery. I had forgotten that it can go into a sleep mode. I just probed my Ryobi after it sat all winter, and it wanted to read 18V. Plugged it into my ebike and the LCD said it w...

Re: Battery Location. Your Opinion Matters!

I like the downtube mount because more of the battery's weight rests against the cradle as opposed to the almost vertical position where I would surmise either the locking pin or the base of the cradle bears most of the weight. I will admit not being familiar with the cradle for that particular batt...

Re: HELP KT LCD3 error code 3

Just some thoughts... The Bafang display can be bypassed by jumping the power (P+) to the control (PL) pins. Since your display has Battery positive power in (36v Red wire) and control (Control Blue wire) My theory would be you could do the same. (I have not done this) Or you could just cut to the ...

Re: HELP KT LCD3 error code 3

I see the 9 pin motor cable on your controller pic. Yes, it's hard to get that wrong, unless you didn't line up the arrows, got the pins bent, or don't push both parts together til it snaps. Nonetheless, that's what Error 3 is all about. One time I spliced up a cable and one of the Hall wires broke....

Re: juliet 4 in 1 cable

It's quite possible that the old controller, if it wasn't a KT controller, used a different pin out on the harness. Here's where 48V power and ground want to be on the 5 pin connector (female) to the LCD3 on my KT36ZWSR-LCD controller. All you need to start an LCD3 is Power and Ground, so they must ...

Re: 29er ?

Hi Planetdad. Rear suspension is fine for a hub motor, but it can make it harder to mount a battery if they put the shock/springs inside the triangle. I put a small Bafang SWXH (250W) in a 29" wheel. All of the above is probably true, if you're looking for high performance, but I thought it made for...

ckelly, how does the pedal assist feel? Can you pedal slow on PAS1. Does the speedometer on the 830 LCD work when coasting? Those were two problems with the 900SWD display that I hope have been resolved.

SWXH rear drive in my wife's 700cc stepthru. Q100H in my 20" folders. All were around $79 plus $50 shipping. Bought at separate times and I spoked them myself. The Bafang normally runs on 36V, but we've used it at 48V where it's around 23mph on flats. It's rated at 250W though. Best used on 36V Pede...

Re: Seeking motor and controller advice on 1-1.5kw folding bike build

I would consider the BBS02. Eliminates need to mount a large 25A controller somewhere on your bike. Luna has already done it, and there is a user video that shows the range and speed you can get out of a 14S-2P 30Q pack. You'll add 8.5 pounds in the center and while it's not 1000W, the gearing will ...

Re: Factory Ebike for kids???

At first thought, it would seem a 20" folder would grow with a kid, but then you gotta think of kids jumping off hills and pulling wheelies with these bikes. I think you need a stought 20" frame to hold up to what kids will do, All this folding stuff would just break. Maybe a Q100H or G310 in a BMX ...

Could be your BMS. I installed one over the winter and tested it with a hair dryer. Worked fine at 5A. First time on the bike, it went chugga chugga and blew up. Well past the aliexpress warranty by the time I found out. Lost $20. Check the voltage on the cells. Make sure than none of the 13 cell gr...

This one was under $750 for me on amazon. It's pretty basic with a 3 level PAS and always on throttle, 500W motor and 36V. Top speed is about 19.5 mph per my $7 bike computer. All alloy except for steel wheels. Still close to 60 pounds. Textro disks, which means I can replace the pads someday, and t...

I've got this one in the smaller size PO6 size. Works OK. You would have to splice the motor cable, but the colors should match. Still might not fit.
