Re: Giant Glory Tangent Build

I linked the photos externally for everyone. I like keeping it hi-res 8) I run both 6in1 charge leads and balance leads. I am now working with some beefed up balance board PCBs to help cut down on the wiring mess that resides in the backpack battery. Ideally I will 3d print a little box for each par...

Giant Glory Tangent Build

Hey ES, Decided to start a thread for my Glory Tangent build. I've been cluttering up the Tangent thread a little too much  I started with a medium sized Giant Glory rocking a mismatch of components. After a rebuild of the shock and a new front rim and hub I feel like this project is slowly ev...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

Thanks all for everyones input. I didn't see any evidence of glue but perhaps it has been stuck together. That bike looks great Ham! And yes, you either need a lot of 18650s or some lipo pouch cells to make full use of the tangent. I run a 3 pos switch for a "legal setting" around 2000w with the CA ...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

Anyone have trouble separating the gearset of the new gen kit for cleaning and regreasing? I couldn't get it apart, tried gently but she didn't want to come. Cleaned it out and added some new grease. Shes purring as usual. Went for a nice little 2 hour ride with my pedal only buddy. If only he had a...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

Im also interested to see if it can handle the power. I'd wouldn't mind that hammerschmidt either, pedaling at 80km/h must make you feel like a boss. Interesting take on the tensioner. My tensioner is solidly mounted and the chain is pushing/pulling on it in such a way to loosen it. Have to keep my ...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

So apparently my rear derailleur the Shimano Saint Shadow Plus, RD-M820 Doesn't fit a 42t cassette. It says maximum 36t. I tried to install the 42t with the derailleur but it hits the 42t sprocket. You think 36t is enough torque for big hills? Or should I try another alternative? I used a derail ha...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

I'm pretty happy with the results of removing and fixing the tensioner. Took a 40km ride and only had an issue when my method of fixing the tensioner failed. Otherwise the drive performed great. Also just finished setting up my Neptune Lite from Danny at speedict. I wanted something to log the min v...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

I've tried aluminum narrow-wide as receiver. I'm now on to a fleabay steel receiver. I've tried everything with position of the rings and different chain tensioner settings. No es bueno. Getting progressively sweatier in the garage and running out of options I decided to remove the tension aspect of...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

Fellow tangent users, I am experiencing a drive chain issue with my Gen1.5 kit and I am wondering if anyone can offer some advice. I installed the upgraded kit and have now been plagued with a drive chain skipping/popping. The drive chain under moderate load (2kw) tends to fail to seat properly on t...

I can't imagine a cyclone pushing more power than an unleashed tangent. Dave keeps the power in the tangent down with the CA3.

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

Hey Mugenski, Interesting question. Dave stated it should take about 10ml. Initially I filled until I couldn't get any more water in with the bike sitting level. Probably around 10-12 ml. I then flipped the bike upside down for some work and when I placed it back down I checked the water level and ...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

Few thoughts on the new G1.5 kit I've been breaking in the last few days. Temps are noticeably better managed by the waterjacket for those of us who have astros and not the G2 kit with bonded stator. I am loving the change to the spider and that standard chainrings can be used now. More teeth and ch...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

In Canada I can find weldering torch cable pretty cheap at princess auto. If in the US maybe harbour freight has something similar. Otherwise maybe a welding supplier can hook you up. I find anything audio related to be very overpriced. I'm running 8 at the moment but I do notice warm cables when th...

Re: Sur-Ron Light Bee USA group buy

I don't think that is going to happen.. your best bet is to probably order light bee with the RST front fork and then remove it unused and then sell the stock front suspension here or on ebay etc.. I would recommend keeping the stock rear shock because your rear shock may not be valved / tuned prop...

Re: Sur-Ron Light Bee USA group buy

Been watching the surron since it showed up here. I'm very tempted however I would prefer to use some higher quality suspension components of my own. I know EVE is going to be offering the euro legal surron as well as the motor for the tinkering community. Does anyone know if it's possible to get a ...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

Giant Glory Tangent I’m starting a glory build (on a 2013) soon, on a gen 2, did you have any problems getting everything aligned and pretty? Nothing serious. I did tap the fixed BB cup over just a hair on the provided bottom bracket but it's no biggy. Depending on your gearing you may want to rear...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

Those VESC look neat but they are quite sizeable. Not sure they would be the ideal candidate for our setup. That said I can envision some fun uses for them. I remember telling Dave I wanted more than the talon 120... I didn't know what I was talking about. It bursts so hard when uncorked that it's s...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

First off clean build Lee. I regret not getting a frame that could mount the tangent in the triangle. The drive chain Dave sent fits perfectly to remove without pulling a link. A stronger spring would be a nice addition. I don't think I'd want to run the chain too tight that I couldn't get it off ea...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

So I've been riding around with my Cycle Analyst limited to 990A for a few rides by accident. Seems when you switch to "High Power" mode on the Cycle Analyst it multiplies the amp limits by 10. Luckily my pack is only rated for 140A and the Cycle Analyst recorded only 158.8A (8200W) as a peak. I se...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

That looks good 12-C. If I can use off the shelf sprockets and just shim it up myself that would be the ticket. Tinkering with the chaining bolts/spacers is no big deal and I feel it's a better option than using custom sprockets. Let me know when you're going forward with this.

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

You're connecting the packs externally? Not soldering, but plugging the XT connectors in series? The order of the series connections doesn't matter, just make sure all the cells are equally charged when connected. Yep just 3 parallel groups, two are 6s x 6 and one set of 2s x 6. Didn't know if ther...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

That is gorgeous machine work no doubt. Increased heat shedding capacity is going to be fantastic. I just finished the freshen up on my bike along with a new 11t-40t 9s cassette. My chainline wasn't great on the old setup so this time around I pulled a few cogs and pushed the 18-21-24-28-34-40 cogs ...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

Is there a better spider/freewheel setup to use? I've noticed a concerning weeble-wobble in mine and I find the clearance of the inner chainring to be very tight with the spider itself. Wouldn't mind swapping it out for something a little higher quality and better clearances. Might be why I've throw...
