Michigan had 47 cent gas last week at one station. It is up now to $1.38.

I am selling my battery due to wanting to restore my classic bike back to pedal power - it is in the classifieds section.

I have not been riding my eBike since I discovered Strava. Now any eBike ride is a wasted opportunity to log a ride.

Assuming 30 MPG and $2.15 per gallon, 100K miles is $7166.

Re: Tesla Model X intro.

I hope we all like it as every one of us in the US is helping to pay for it. $7500 subsidy to help rich people buy $130,000 luxury cars.

As far as the car - it looks great. I am not sure at what price point I would get one. Maybe $55,000.

Re: VW 'Volkswagen Uses Software to increase Pollution'

Shares in BMW (BAMXY) slumped 8% to their lowest level in two years after a German magazine reported that at least one model had breached European pollution limits by a huge margin in road tests. Auto Bild said the BMW X3 xDrive 20d had produced 11 times as much nitrogen oxide as permitted in indep...

I wanted Diesel to succeed, but this explains why Honda and Toyota never sold them in the US. So I guess they are not viable if they must be clean.

Re: VW 'Volkswagen Uses Software to increase Pollution'

Chevy should program the engine to run at least 15 minutes a week, like my natural-gas generator does. Maybe they could do that 15 minutes a month since there is no battery that must be kept charged by the engine.

Re: VW 'Volkswagen Uses Software to increase Pollution'

Seems like the only reason why the VW diesel was practical was due to the cheating. Or else it would cost more and have lower performance, and at the higher price, no one would buy it. So diesel just died in the US. During his time at GM, Lutz said he was constantly asking his engineers how Volkswag...

Re: VW 'Volkswagen Uses Software to increase Pollution'

http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2010/01/the-truth-about-clean-diesels-adblue-is-freaking-expensive/ The cost of the fluid reduces the savings from having diesel to begin with. So VW was probably trying to save consumers (and hence make the care more appealing) from $300 fees to refill the tank as o...

Re: VW 'Volkswagen Uses Software to increase Pollution'

I thought emissions controls tended to reduce engine efficiency, but maybe they just reduce power.

Maybe there is no fix short of the urine tank. Coming up with a retro-fit for that sounds very expensive.

Here is a poll on "In light of the VW scandal, would you still buy a diesel car?" http://www.cnbc.com/2015/09/23/would-you-still-buy-a-diesel-car.html My take is that a diesel costs $5000 more, and you will never pay that back with the 20-30% fewer gallons they burn (was 30% with VW cheat, but will...

Re: VW 'Volkswagen Uses Software to increase Pollution'

Everyone who bought one did it for the extreme fuel economy. None of those people will be happy if a recall reduces their economy.

They will all get checks for the lifetime fuel difference value.

My guess is everyone will get a $600 check and that is all. That is $6.6 billion before any fines.

How many owners of US cars are going to do the recall to get their cars detuned from Eurospec?

I could not be happy without a CA. Not having one is just not an option for me.

But I can't live without the data it gives. I can imagine a lot of people just don't care and just want to ride.
