Re: Nickel welding strips - current capability ??

OK I'll bite! What is the real current rating for .2mm x 7mm in pure nickel? simple: it depends on the application. ok, fair enough. not so simple... the "heat" issue is really a time issue. you can pump 75A into such a strip if the time was short enough. you have to look at the...

Re: Ebike Battery stored for a long tome

distilled water only works if the battery was cooked. Doh! Just before seeing this I had added distilled water and started the charging process. We shall see! Worse case scenario is I spun my wheels and got nowhere with my already mostly dead batteries. use a IR meter and measure the temperature of...

I'm highly skeptical that the chart you posted is accurate! you should be secptical. the chart is wrong. and dont be afraid to use your "real" account. too many people here are too scared to say something that might offend something or brings their plans and ideas back to reality with dan...

Re: WTB Battery Relay Controller 100V 20S

you do know that a bms and a "voltage programmable relay" are basically the same thing right? you are not switching 100VDC at dozens of amps with cheap chinese relays. you need contactors and those consume more power then you care for. a bms is litteraly designed to do exactly what you wan...

Re: WTB Battery Relay Controller 100V 20S

No that is not what I want. I am charging my packs with a balanced charger. I HATE BMS. I want a low voltage disconnect by relay. Any better proposal? yes, i have a perfect device that does EXACTLY what you need. its called a BMS. that you "hate" a bms is separate from the fact that from ...

Re: WTB Battery Relay Controller 100V 20S

these devices are fairly common. its called a BMS and your battery already should have one. and your charger would never get above 84V unless you are doing something stupid with the wrong model charger.

Re: special pleading

normal scooter drivetrains have pin-locks in the drivegear that lock it when then motor is not powerd. that drivetrain is also insanely inefficient. you can also buy industrial BLDC motors that have integrated brakes. or use the controller to force the motor to hold position. that is something most ...

Re: special pleading

In the event that I can make this mobility scooter faster .. I wonder how to increase the braking power. if you have a standard DC drivemotor and reduction box it will be difficult to have electrical braking. personally i would try to see if you can get some direct drive hubs in that size. that sho...

Re: New chinese motorcycle =) need help to identify

it has a normal QS motor on it. so there is probably nothing stopping you from dumping the lead acids and get/make a lithium battery and replace the controller with a kelly KLS-N and control the power and regen. especially in the city you want to ride on regen, not the brakes. ps: buy something like...

Re: Charging a portable power station from a Tesla Model 3

you dont have to take out the rear seats every time, nothing is stopping you from just hooking up a SB50 that comes out at the trunk or frunk if you really want to connect stuff up constantly. but its still a very out-there thing to want/have in general. if you really want the best you can get you c...

Re: Charging a portable power station from a Tesla Model 3

It's much easier on a Chevy Volt. All I do is connect the 2kW sine wave inverter to the 12V battery with short 6 gauge wires then run the car with the shift button clamped on and in park. I have the wires and a big Anderson connecter permanently installed on the battery. how is that "much easi...

Re: Charging a portable power station from a Tesla Model 3

pro tip: if you enable sentry mode the 12V stays on and you can tap off the PCM main 12V bus under the seat or in the frunk. an inrush limiter is a resistor that has high resitance when its cold and low resistance when its hot. when you plug the device in the resistor needs to heat up in orde...

Re: Charging a portable power station from a Tesla Model 3

When this is initially plugged in to the 14 volts at the DC-DC converter, will their be a brief current surge? yes. you will probably see some sparks when connecting. i recommend you keep it connected as the connection needs to be beefy in order to take 50A for several hours and the sparks might ki...

Re: Charging a portable power station from a Tesla Model 3

from what i understand you can just jack the 12V from the car directly into the DC jack of the jackery. the "charger" is inside the device. just like your phone. the internal charger is current limited, so the regular "chargers" are actually really just power supplies for the int...

2. No special precautions needed, but I would charge with standard lithium battery precharge, which is 1/2 standard charge current back up to the nominal max discharge voltage of 2.5V (or 2.8V to be safe), then standard charge profile. noooooo. dont charge that fast if they are under 1V. charge at ...

Maybe, but I dont see why you cant bypass this bms with a contactor the same way as the one you suggested.
And this one can do up to 32s.
because the bms i recommend has active balancing and is built considerably better.
