Re: 2019 Motor Simulator, Mid-drives and other updates

How about gas forming once the motor reaches boiling temps ? Well that's steam, and it's powerful stuff, and probably do a number on the internals... I'm also leaning towards IN4's deduction, that it will not end will having water coolant circulating inside an electric motor... watercooling motors ...

Interesting experiment. But doesn't distilled water act like a super oxidant ? Aren't you worried about corrosion ?
I think you mean de-ionized water...

Distilled water is the correct choice for a soluble coolant. the MoCool he's added provides rust inhibition, among other important attributes.

Re: Need a bombproof rear-hub that can handle 2500 watts

Full-weight Onyx hub with steel Hyperglide driver is what I would use (and I do!). Combine that with the XG-899 8 speed SRAM cassette, and I don't think you will have any more problems. Will of course need to pair with the appropriate RD and shifter, and either use their recommended chain or somethi...

Re: Bafang ultra upgrade to 2500watt

There aren't any nylon gears, unless you have a very early version of the Ultra motor. Mechanically the motor is completely capable of reliable operation at 2500W, with good riding habits, avoiding high instantaneous torque load on the sprag/one way bearing in the middle of the gear train (heavy thr...

I've got the short Miranda cranks (8mm offset) as well and they are a huge improvement. Better stance less Q-factor, better ground clearance, must have if your frame/heels will clear appropriately.

Re: Bafang ultra max 2.2kw EXCESS controller

I think a lot of customers are going to very happy with the 2.2kW Excess controller... Agreed, particularly if they deliver strong on the Finesse points alongside the bump in power levels. Those extra control features are what I'm really after, when considering the purchase... The power levels in m...

750W geared fat hub in wheel, with controller/display etc

Selling basically a complete ebike kit, swapped off one of my bikes (big upgrade) LAX Fat hub, 170-190mm OLD fit, 750W nominal rated geared hub. This is the same motor as the Bafang G60, without their branding, internally and externally identical for all intents and purposes. It takes a screw-on fre...

Re: Bafang ultra max 2.2kw EXCESS controller

Last I checked with them, they are available, you'll have to send your motor to them (or buy one from them with the controller installed). Seems they are individually calibrated to each motor... I decided not to bother for now, due to the expense of it, in addition to needing a more powerful battery...

Re: Custom built, self made ebike frame project

Good work on the frame, lots of steps very well done. I was a bit concerned about the small upper shock mount plates and apparent lack of bushings/load bearing hardware of appropriate size, but I'm sure you've considered all of that. Also excellent work on the heat-treat, that's an important step fo...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

What else would you like to see about it? It was very easy to build, I bought a cheap replacement mech brake lever w/ electric cutout from Biktrix, then removed the stock lever, installed a 3D printed one (onyx+fiberglass), added a spring and a machined screw where the cable tension nut would go, an...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

I have a lever for this function, took over from the front brake electric cutoff. I use it as a clutch lever essentially, tap to cut power during shifts, or hold to cut power while riding low speeds in particular. The lever is custom made 1.5 finger size, sits below the front brake lever in a very c...

Yeah! I remember you have the 50t. Yep it's just the right consistency. the 220 would be too thick I suspect.

Re: Bafang Max vs Ultra

The Bafang Max is the older predecessor to the Ultra, it's quite a bit less power (350W I think, maybe 500W at 48V), but still more advanced than your typical BBS conversion motor. My buddy owns a Biktrix with the Max motor and it's a nice bike... But I prefer the Ultra for sure.

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

Not too surprising, particularly if the motor uses steel gears (I think they are now). What I'd really like to know, is if it's comparably louder than an Ultra motor?

There are actually two one-way clutches in the Ultra motor, a three-pawl freewheel for pedal input, and a one-way roller clutch or sprag clutch for the chainring output shaft. Mobilith SHC 100 is better than Mobil 28 and more readily available (Mobil28 is essentially obsolete). It works beautifully in the Ultra motor, and will work anywhere you use lithium-synthetic grease for higher speed applications, excellent in the bearings and gears alike... Will not harm nylon or c...

Anything that fits a 4.8" fat tire, will fit 29er tires, and often 29+ tires (typically just over 30" OD, similar to a 5.0" 26 fat tire).

In the 29.5" OD you'll find 26 4.8", 27.5 4.0", 29er.

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

I've got a FLX Blade that has about 1500 miles. it's been a lot of fun and a great into to eMTBs. I have made some changes, the most important being shorter (152mm) cranks from Miranda which solved a serious crank-strike problem. I also swapped out the humongous display for a 500C. Also added 16 de...
