Re: Finding a new home for large battery pack

I’ve sent you a pm about the large batteries. I think they are 32S which is 134.4v fully charged, 118.4v nominal. You can just make out the 118.4v on the white label. The first 1 is faint which is probably why you missed it.

Re: Looking for advice 20” Scooter build

Here's some close ups of the torque arms. Each side is different but both sides are made up of two pieces. The piece that goes on first is a bit like a washer and entirely encompasses the motor axle. The second piece is so that a bolt can pinch/clamp onto the axle and then they all bolt through the ...

Re: Looking for advice 20” Scooter build

For the torque arms we went "belt & braces" as we use the scooters offroad and didn't want to be stuck in the forest with miles to walk the scooter back to the car if anything happened! I'll get you a better photo when I'm next at my Dads as this is the only closer one I have on my phone. We made us...

Re: Looking for advice 20” Scooter build

This is our converted Pawtrekker. Great fun although I’d recommend upgrading the rear suspension unit, it makes a huge difference. We went for a Rockshox Monarch R. We had a custom made motor for it but it’s very similar to one of the MXUS models. The most important part is the torque arms. These to...

I love your build, great quality work. I too wanted something “different” so this is what I ended up with:

Re: Samsung SDI cells, 4.2v, 70Ah 70A/210A - EU

Where have you got the 210A discharge figure from and are you sure they are 70Ah? I’m not saying you are wrong, it’s just that the BMW i3 uses Samsung SDI cells (I believe) and they are 60Ah. They can also probably discharge more than 210A. See my thread here: https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewt...

Re: BMW i3 Batteries

Thanks Michael, useful information. I wonder if one exists for the 60Ah version as that’s for the 94Ah. The table seems to suggest a 5 second burst at 413A is as much as they can handle and that’s the 94Ah battery. The 60Ah is likely to be less. Maybe not good enough in a 1P configuration for my pro...

Re: BMW i3 Batteries

Ok, so 40HP = about 30KW. So if I use two of these BMW modules in series it will be 24S & at 250A continuous that’s roughly 22KW. 500A bursts would be roughly 44KW. I don’t think I could realistically match the performance of the tuned FL400 you had but stock should be doable. What about weight? Any...

Re: BMW i3 Batteries

It might be a slow burner Tom but keep your eyes peeled as I’ll document it all on here. Hard to find them in the UK and they are expensive so it may take me a while to find one. Out of interest, do you know any performance specs for a standard FL400? Top speed, horse power, 0-60 type of figures etc...

Re: BMW i3 Batteries

I completely agree and my research into EV batteries for the use in my project has inadvertently led me to diy “power walls”. Not necessarily as useful here in the UK due to our weather but still something that has got me thinking.

What kind of motor are you thinking of using?
Early stages of my planning but possibly a Motenergy ME1616 coupled with a Sevcon GEN4 Size6 controller. Initial thoughts are 250A continuous & 500-600A bursts.

BMW i3 Batteries

I'm considering purchasing the battery out of a low mileage BMW i3 for a project I'm planning (conversion of a Honda Pilot FL400 offroad buggy from petrol to electric) but can't find a huge amount of information about them either on here or elsewhere on the internet. What I've found so far and my as...
