Re: Random: 18650 cell motorcycle battery?

Well it was a success, soldered it up lastnight, then installed it this morning using 2 large copper bolts... bike started up perfectly without any issues, actually the fastest ive ever heard the motor turn over.. i put my device on it to measure amps during startup and it was 16.1amps as the max af...

How is amps spread across 18650 cells?

I just completed a small 4s6p pack im going to try out on my motorcycle that ended up with a dead battery yesterday, how is the amps split across the pack, is it x amps divided by x cells? or what? sorry if this is a simple question, just still learning about all of this....

Re: Random: 18650 cell motorcycle battery?

Lead is very good at putting out amps...its capacity (Ahrs) where lead never gives its full rated output....unless you use a very slow 20hr discharge. But see what happens Remember though, even if those 18650's do manage to start the bike, overloading them like that will kill them very quickly. i d...

Re: Random: 18650 cell motorcycle battery?

from my understandings of lead acid batteries, they are only about 50% efficient, so only about 28 cca is really the output... figured the output of this battery is comparable.... I finished it up tonight, will try it out tomorrow. https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xlt1/v/t1.0-9/12814412_...

Re: Random: 18650 cell motorcycle battery?

Think im gonna try it out before going out and buying a new motorcycle battery, took the old battery out and hooked it up to the Imax B6, i think its shorted internally because the imax immediately goes into an voltage error condition without even trying to do anything in the menus.. just connecting...

Random: 18650 cell motorcycle battery?

Today was a beautiful day and i had the day off, so i figured i would take the motorcycle out for some riding, 2007 KTM 450 exc, well its plugged into a battery tender, but when i went to start the bike it barely turned over 1 time and then was completely dead, so i swung out the kick start and kick...

Internal Resistance: What is acceptable?

I did search for this, but most of the threads that came up just talked about it and didnt really give numbers, just said the higher the internal resistance, the lower it will drop under load.. I have been trying to learn more about the imax b6 mini i have and decided to testa few of the cells i dis...

Re: Alternative to spot welding 18650 Cells

There have been a few batteries made with magnets here. But I can't remember anyone doing any soldering. Do you have any pics of your soldering jig? I am thinking of how your soldering might heat up the magnets. At what temperature will the magnet de-magnetize? If you can hotglue the magnets to the...

Alternative to spot welding 18650 Cells

Alright, this is not a prooven method thus yet, but my initial results are very promising, so i figured i would post up the idea to get some feedback from you guys before i assemble my larger ebike packs... This idea came to mind a few days ago when my lipo 2.2aH pack took a dump on me after flying ...

Honest Review: Imax B6 mini V2 vs. Foxnovo 4S

Well i have about 250 18650 cells tested under my belt since the arrival of the Imax B6 Mini and the Foxnova 4S, so i figured i would give a review on them because i feel like the most common tester on this site (Imax B6) has fallen behind times on technology and speed compared to cheaper alternativ...

Re: How is capacity wear rated?

I've been building packs from recycled laptop cells for almost 8 years. Same brand-model cells of varying actual capacity placed in parallel do deteriorate at the same percentage rate ... when based on present capacity. 2400mAh cell in parallel with 2000mAh cell will equally deteriorate to 1200mAh ...

How is capacity wear rated?

I am about 80 cells into my collection of old laptop cells for capacity testing and i had something pop up that made me curious how the rest of the life of the battery will degrade.... Example, i have a good chunk of 2600/2800mAH when new batteries testing around 2100-2300, so using an actual batter...

Spot Weld w/ Fuses?

I was curious if its necessary to spot weld fuses on each link or if its even possible with the hobby spot welders people buy to weld their packs together. I was planning on fusing each cell for safety, but most seem to ignore fuses it seems.. as if they are not really required. I am thinking about ...

18650 Battery Storage?

I went around to collect laptop batteries to salvage the cells from for my ebike kit im installing soon, during this time i managed to find one location that had 81 laptop batteries that they allowed me to take, so now in total i have 1028 18650 cells salvaged, i know the amount is kinda overkill fo...

12v DC Spot Welder?

i have been debating on how i want to assemble my ebike battery out of 18650 cells, was going to just carefully solder it together since im using used laptop cells, but the more i think about it i remembered years ago i tack welded a part on my jeep with the 12v starter battery using some jumper cab...

Re: 14s LIPO BMS?

Can you do a good review on this unit, i am building a 18650 pack from old laptop cells i salvaged and i bought 2 of the 7s $6 BMS circuits off ebay, i was planning on running both, each one charging half of the battery.. this would make for an awesome charger in the future if these dont work out.

Re: Is this worth doing?

I may be miss understanding you or I may just have it wrong, but the second pack of 13s6p would either need its own BMS or have a balance wire harness, ala RC Lipo, connected to the main BMS protected pack to protect the second pack of cells. Anyways if you are considering Em3ev for your packs, I'd...

Re: DIY 18650 Pack: Can i mix cells?

4A fuse will be blown with <2C discharge! Which will cause a cascade failure disabling entire pack. Could you explain this more plz, i only ordered them because tesla uses them on their 18650 cells and many others.. why would it be different for my setup? 36V 20Ah pack = 10s ≥8p (≥2500mAh new cells...

Re: Is this worth doing?

As others have mentioned, as long as the cells used are able to provide the amperage needed without stress at 10ah, then you should be able to create a parallel plug setup to add 1,2,3 as many packs as you like as long as they share the same pack voltage range. The main concern you have, and if you...
