Re: Electrom1 Long Wheelbase Recumbent Light Electric Vehicle

I’ve been putting as many test miles onto the new Electrom 1 frame as I can lately. My goal is to get the first frame up to at least 5000 KM of testing in time to make the next set of frames for our Beta backers. Here’s a quick bit of video I shot while doing early morning speed runs. There’s even a...

Re: Electrom1 Long Wheelbase Recumbent Light Electric Vehicle

thanks. I like that tire. I'm running16 inch 2.75 Heidenau Moped tires and I have to say that one of the best things about the 20 inch bike wheel is that it takes 16 inch moto tires. I agree that geared hub motors aren't ideal, but they do allow folks in areas with lower power limits to play the gam...

Re: Lightweight efficiency oriented BikeE conversion

Hey Neptronix, I just caught up with this thread. I like your determination. Your experience with the difficulty of retrofiring an existing recumbent to electric confirms one of my main reasons for starting the Electrom project: That existing recumbent frames out there are not and adequate for high-...

Re: Electrom1 Long Wheelbase Recumbent Light Electric Vehicle

Hi Neptronix, Thanks for the feedback. I agree totally that a direct-drive motor is the best way to go. I like the simplicity and the reliability, not to mention the reduced hassle. There were two reasons for choosing the Golden Magic Pie: -I love the beefy construction of the wheel and rim, it make...

Re: Electrom1 Long Wheelbase Recumbent Light Electric Vehicle

He there, sorry about the long delay on a response. It's been a busy summer. When do you think you will have a rolling chassis for sale with wheels wind screen etc. ? I hope to have the first offering of Beta bikes out to my indigo backers in early 2020, however, I could start to sell framesets earl...

Re: Introducing the Electrom

So I understand the mechanical setup, but how do you use the motor as a generator, and how does it's output get turned into rectified current at a voltage that can charge the battery? From what I think I know, there would have to be field current in the stator to go from free turning to generation,...

Electrom1 Long Wheelbase Recumbent Light Electric Vehicle

Hi guys, here's a video update on the progress of the Electrom1. the frame is a combination of Aluminum tubing and laser cut and bent plate. Controller: Grin Phaserunner Motor: Magic Pie 2 (and the new Grin Splined Gearmotor when it comes in) top speed: 60 kph range: 220 km with 2 72 volt 20 AH batt...

look into chopper Harleys should be the fasest place to find this info.

And don't forget the Ape Hanger bars!
funnily enough if I wasn't using an under-stear system I would need Ape Hangers to clear my knees while pedaling.

Re: Best controller to use with qs 205?

Hey Ctrider, one more thing to throw at you: what size of wheel are you going to lace that QS into? if you are looking for big acceleration and torque, the smaller the rim you lace it into the more torque you'll get. Of course your bike geometry is important so you may be limited by the frame you pu...

Re: Best controller to use with qs 205?

Either you need a smaller motor, or a bigger controller. Would you feed a 12 cylinder racing motor with a lawnmower carburetor ? You're right, I was focused on the terrain and intended use, not the hub motor itself. I agree that a QS 205 can handle way more power than a Phaserunner can put out. I w...

Re: Searching low € / kWh battery chemistry

I second the general sentiment from the above responses. Build the biggest pack you can fit in your vehicle and justify based on range and power demands. The less you challenge your battery pack the longer it will last. I run a 72 volt 20 AH Panasonic PF pack, charge to 85% most of the time, and rar...

Re: Electrom1 LEV taking shape

Very nice build! Although the steering cables could maybe attached directly to the plate under the fork?: That would minimize failure points. The problem is that there needs to be a turn-buckle in the system to adjust the cable tension. One could put the turnbuckle elsewhere in the linkage, but as ...

Re: Electrom1 LEV taking shape

Re: Electrom1 LEV taking shape

Thanks for the feedback but I kind of disagree about the video quality issue. This is forum for enthusiasts, not a sales forum. But it is true, in general it is better to show your work in the best light in all situations as you never know where a video is going to end up. I'll keep this in mind for...

Re: Best controller to use with qs 205?

That controller is not worthy of pushing a QS205. It's weak as shit. Hmm, maybe you didn't read the initial post regarding the flat aspect of his ride. The Phaserunner can handle 50 amps and at 72 volts that's quite a bit of power. (3500 watts) I guess the question is, do you want obscene power, or...

Electrom1 LEV taking shape

Hi everybody, it's been along road, but I've recently got the rolling chassis for the Electrom1 production sample out for a first road test, and it performed beautifully. Many of the predicted handling characteristics were proven and even surpassed. We are testing out a new cable-based steering syst...

I recommend the Grin Phaserunner, it uses ASI internals but is nicely potted for waterproofness and play's nicely with their Cycle Analyst screen. www.ebikes.ca. They can also sell you an ASI controller

Re: Introducing the Electrom

It is funny how I get a visual impression of decapitation potential from the Electrom but not from heads out velomobiles like Quest. I agree John, almost all velomobiles present an even greater danger to the rider than the Electrom– on the Electrom the fairing is flexible and would crumple, but on ...

Re: Introducing the Electrom

Hi Trazor, thanks for the feedback, yes a few people have asked about the potential injuries from the windscreen. It is actually made of a Windwrap recumbent bike fairing and the material used is a very flexible poly carbonate that will bend on impact. That said, it is something that makes people wo...
