Re: Adaptto Mini-E/Max-E Owner's Thread

I asked a while back but don't think I ever got a clear answer, so here I go again: I'm building a 2WD Mini-E setup with a pair of MAC hub motors. I understand I'll need an external speed sensor (since they're freewheeling geared hubs). Several questions on this topic: 1. I assume I'll only need one...

Re: Electric Girvin Basman

I have one of those Noleen linkage forks on an old tandem of mine, and kept glancing back and forth between that and my Luna. Wasn't sure what would be involved in widening it. Now I know. Keep it up!

Re: reachfar gps tracker and alarm rf-v12+

I'm looking at the same alarm, and wondering the same thing. Seems like it could be a much better, more direct fit then using one intended for internal combustion. Did you get it, or find any more information?

Re: LumanPDX builds a Luna Cycles Fat Cargo Bike

Well, looks like my post from last night disappeared, so I'll post again. I'm going to be deep in a work project for the next week or two, so this might be the last update for a while. But I'm really happy with where the bike is at now. The Luna still wasn't feeling right. Still a bit cramped and un...

ok, I swear I posted an update last night with photos, but today that post is nowhere to be found. Does that happen here on ES?

Re: LumanPDX builds a Luna Cycles Fat Cargo Bike

BUt your right the fork can be a major pain in the asss and its something I will think about how to make it easier. Yeah, really no worries. Building a small-batch DIY bike kit, I expected to have some rough edges to work out. If the fork had been truly unworkable, I would have shot you an email fi...

Re: LumanPDX builds a Luna Cycles Fat Cargo Bike

Got a bunch of work done last night, and she's now technically rideable! Lets see here: The chainline looks like it's going to work out. But when that derailleur said it has a 28t max for the largest cog, they aren't kidding. I tried pushing it with an 11-30 freewheel, and it just won't lift the cha...

Re: LumanPDX builds a Luna Cycles Fat Cargo Bike

Just a bit of Aluminum. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000H9JXEI/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Good point on using my own bars. I was so focused on getting these to work, I didn't consider using something else. I suspect I might also benefit from a stem as I am 6'2" as well. Thanks for the link. I'l...

Re: Bomber Style Frame Set Black/White - $600 Shipped in US

In every industry there are those that take big risks for big rewards, and those that take little risk and settle for lesser rewards. R&D isn't a one-time investment, it's an ongoing process, and at best it gives you the chance to lead the pack. The idea that you can design something, and sell somet...

Re: Bomber Style Frame Set Black/White - $600 Shipped in US

This is hilarious. Is everyone here new to the bike industry? Copying products has been going on since the beginning. It's nothing new, not in the slightest. The clones come along, more people buy them, the market segment grows, more money works it's way into everyone's pockets, and the market leade...

Re: LumanPDX builds a Luna Cycles Fat Cargo Bike

Good to know. We'll check the headset. Chalo (helping me with assembly) and I can't get the handlebar to clamp tight enough around the steel steer tube so I ordered an aluminum one. As of now, it just spins if you hold the front wheel in place and turn the handlebars. We are going to try with clamp...

Re: LumanPDX builds a Luna Cycles Fat Cargo Bike

Well, with the wheels finally on the Luna, it was time for her to make the way from the living room to the workshop. This project has officially progressed from the collecting-parts stage, to the making-it-happen stage :D I decided tonight I was going to get the fork and headset taken care of. I lik...

Re: LumanPDX builds a Luna Cycles Fat Cargo Bike

Well, I got both wheels built up. I didn't drill the rim holes on the first wheel, and as a result I have a fair bit of kink in some of the spokes at the nipple/spoke junction. Not ideal, and a little disconcerting. On the second wheel I just marked the spoke angle on the holes, then stuck a drill b...

Re: LumanPDX builds a Luna Cycles Fat Cargo Bike

Welcome to ES. Does the part of Portland you ride in have a lot of hills? if yes, maybe consider a BBS02? you can adjust the amount of assist to very low in order to get a good workout and max possible range from a small and light battery. If the hills are short and mild, another option might be a ...

Frame: The Luna Cycles Fat Cargo Bike I fell in love with this bike the first time I saw it here on ES. It got my imagination racing. The combination of cargo capacity and that built-in battery box sets it apart from most everything else. And those racks? HOLY CRAP. So pretty. So so pretty. I was su...

LumanPDX builds a Luna Cycles Fat Cargo Bike

Hey! Been lurking around here for years, but last fall the itch really caught and I decided it was finally time to build up my own electric bike. I figure my friends and facebook feed can only put up with so many messy build details, so I'd put all the graphic stuff here. So excited! Where to start....

Re: Nissan Leaf Cells Test Data

Subscribed. Wondering how a few of these would go paralleled up in a Luna cycle given the battery space on that bike frame. Would love to strap some of these on an electric motorcycle build. But these Leaf cells are far too big to fit in the Luna's battery box. Could stick a bunch in some panniers ...

Re: Adaptto automatic onboard charger and coil connection

Actually it would seem the most-most elegant solution might be a diode that prevents current from feeding from the controller out to the coil/charger? Does anyone know enough about the Adaptto charging system to know for certain how the connected coil affects the circuit and how to effectively isola...

Re: Adaptto Mini-E/Max-E Owner's Thread

Speaking of the kill switch, I'm already setting up with a pair of 60amp breakers right off the battery. Should an actual battery-disconnecting killswitch be needed, or can we trust that simply cutting the controller's power is good enough? Since I need to use a speed sensor, I won't be able to use ...

Re: Adaptto Mini-E/Max-E Owner's Thread

I'm trying to implement a 3-position key switch on my Adaptto-equipped bike. Essentially I want an off-accessory-ignition sort of setup. Closing the adaptto main switch is easy, but i'd need to pull some low voltage power to trigger the accessory relay. And ideally if the BMS goes into protection mo...

Re: Adaptto automatic onboard charger and coil connection

I just realized the most elegant solution would be a 120v AC activated relay that could directly close the 48v DC circuit. That takes care of the whole connection/disconnection process in one package and is probably more reliable than using a microcontroller in the middle. But I'm only finding DC ac...

Adaptto automatic onboard charger and coil connection

I'm trying to plan out my onboard charging and trying to make sure I understand what's required here. I'll be using an Adaptto controller for battery charging, along with a pair of Mean Well HLG-240h chargers (24v, 10a). The chargers and charging coil will be mounted on the bike. My goal is to autom...

Re: Adaptto Mini-E/Max-E Owner's Thread

So I've read up everything I can, but just wanted to confirm my charging solution... I'd like to use 2x Mean Well HLG-240-24A chargers in series to feed my Adaptto (with the coil of course). I can tune these down to about 44v in series, which should be just below the bottom end of my 16s pack. I see...

Magura MT5e

Been hunting for the perfect pair of brakes for my electric cargo fat bike build, and the Magura MT5e (with the e-brake switch built in) look just about perfect. However I can't seem to find any information on when they'll be available for sale. Anyone have details on this?
