Quality of Kelly Controllers

Hi all. I have an electric ATV off road wheelchair thing I'm building and I am using a Perm 132 motor and an alltrax SR72300 controller. I was advised by the guy at the local EV supply shop to stay away from the Kelly controller I had purchased and his reasoning was that they tend to fail under high...

Legal classification of my custom build - Quadricycle? ATV? Wheelchair? All?

Hey all. I have built a custom vehicle that doesn't really fit into one legal category. I'm looking for help finding the laws regarding this. It is a pure electric full suspension vehicle with a perm 132. It is very fast but we've installed a speed dial so we can dial the power back. I think this wo...

Ebike Battery Cell Layout Questions

Hello ebike battery builders. I am going to try making my own battery packs for fun and to save money this time around for my electric atv project. I bought some batteries from Em3ev a few years ago and I want to use the same form factor as those. The packs are 5s20p. So 72V. At first I tried puttin...

Re: Should I use Cycle Analyst on my build? - Wiring

Thanks guys I agree- It would be great to hookup the throttle but the throttle is resistive 0-5k ohm. The CA wants a 0-5 volt throttle. We have a lot of time into integrating this into the hand controls. Unless someone can think of a way to inverse the voltage output on the throttle...

Should I use Cycle Analyst on my build? - Wiring

Hello All. I am building a wheelchair/atv/off-road go cart. Motor is a perm 132 permanent magnet motor. Controller is an Alltrax SR72300. For reverse I have external reversing contactors and the throttle is a 0-5k resistive throttle. This will be running at 72V and 200 amps peak. Currently I have no...

After thinking about it more I think the 72V controller is the way to go. Thanks

72 to 52V DC DC converter - Do they exist?

Hey All, So I built an electric quad using the motor and controller from a 2010 Zero motorcycle. The motor is a perm 132 and the controller is an alltrax that can take 52V. Thing is I spent $1200 on 72V batteries already because I thought I would be using a different controller. My question: Can I b...

All in good fun...

John, that is interesting about the efficiency number crunching. I wonder how they are even measuring torque with a propeller on it... isn't torque and power usually calculated by accelerating a mass?

Large drone motor for go kart

This is theoretical for now and cost prohibitive but... If I were to want to use this motor: http://store-en.tmotor.com/goods.php?id=891 on a go kart... what controller would I use first of all. Would I need the esc? I'm unfamiliar with the drone world. Any other problems I wold run into? Seems like...

Need Electronics Help For ATV Build - Motorcycle Driveline

Hello All. I've been working away on a vehicle I designed for myself. Its an off road quad with a powertrain out of an old Zero motorcycle. I am a quariplegic so it has hand controls. See pics below. Here is a link to my google doc with the electronics info on it: https://docs.google.com/document/d/...

Re: Anyone seen an electric rock crawler?

Dogman Dan, Are you a troll or something? All rock crawlers are solid axle. "Cantilevered in the middle"? It's called 4 link suspension. Try googling rock crawler. markz, the reason it could be good is because it puts the weight in a good spot - in the axle. Also you lose the weight of the engine, t...

Re: Quad /

Using gear motors can introduce issues with the built-in freewheel clutch since reverse is usually required in these applications. It's possible to tack-weld the clutch to defeat the free-wheel effect, but the shaft key on the planetary carrier takes a bit of a beating since it wasn't intended for ...

Re: Full Suspension Rock Bouncer Inspired Quad Build

Hey All,

Still working on the build. I am now planning on using two mxus 3000w v3 5t hub motors. My questions are now about electrical stuff. What controller(s) should I use? What battery voltage? Two batteries in parallel to increase voltage? If anyones got solutions and resources, I'm all ears.

Looking To Buy MXUS 3000 6T V3

Anyone know where I can buy two MXUS 3000w v3 6t (high torque winding) hub motors? Would love it if they could come laced into some wide 16" rims. I am in SF Bay Area. Looking to buy new.

How does the clutch work on these motors? Is it possible to have reverse with these motors? I would love to use them on a quad I am building. Does anyone know torque numbers?

Reverse and Freewheel? Quad Project

I am designing an offroad quad and I want to use motors inline and connected via shaft to each rear wheel. I really want reverse as this vehicle is for disabled people who cannot get out and push so I don't think I can use a freewheel. However I think having direct drive is going to be annoying when...
