Re: Home Depot Solar Panels $1/watt (approx) Free Shipping

I'm in hunt for a >70V x 36V (12-20A or so).MPPT - got one? I had considered HD's 4-pack 265w (slightly lower $/per W too), but couldn't fit the larger footprint. Admittedly I got antsy... PV prices are certainly reasonable, and I was a bit concerned the potential given the recent tariff placed on ...

Re: E-14 Rohloff "The Ultimate Electric Bike Transmission"

Wow, that is quite the combo, and I like the way the Rohloff communicates with the motor while shifting  Frankly though, it all seems a bit high techy for my tastes, my "regular" Rohloff in my Montague/BBSHD bike shifts just fine, I just use my throttle instead of PAS, and quit pedaling/go to...

Re: Home Depot Solar Panels $1/watt (approx) Free Shipping

Of course I collect sales tax for the state (I learned my lesson on that, the hard way, about 35 years ago selling ultralight aircraft), but you are correct, my #'s were skewed by failing to add the tax. My point is the same, solar has gotten way cheap! And it's amazing my pricing is still cheaper t...

Re: Home Depot Solar Panels $1/watt (approx) Free Shipping

I still remember buying my first 100 watt (that was a huge size back then) panel about 25 years ago. Up until then I was running my place off some ancient 33 watt ARCO panels and a antique 200 watt 12 v WinCharger wind turbine. So adding a 100 watt panel was a big deal! And the price was only $500.0...

Re: Idaho

FYI... This is Rep king's second attempt at unnecessary ebike legislation here in Idaho - and her last Legislative session (retiring). The bill is HB 508, and embraces a host of uglies. Give thanks to the flurry of new ebike dealers now littering the Treasure Valley with their Asian junk. They whin...

Re: My latest fall

The great thing about falling, either snowboarding or riding, is it keeps you limber and I guess in shape? Or at least, like others have said, you learn HOW to fall. I have to laugh when I realize someone may be concerned about me slipping and falling while at work, when I do (icy winter conditions ...

This is local to me, in town anyway, 20 miles away. I had heard about it when it happened, but there was no mention of it being a "motorized" bicycle, (until this most recent article) whatever that means. The victim, may or not be partially to blame, (I have no idea) it was almost dark, real dusky a...

A new development in my home state: http://www.thestate.com/news/business/technology/article198691724.html My district state representative lives down the road from me a few miles, and I have done crane work at his ranch. One of our state senators is building a new home across the valley, and I did ...

Save up, and get a Grundfos SQ Flex well pump. And (assuming you have one) rig your solar array to pump water after your batteries reach float voltage. I hate to see off grid set ups with a dedicated water pump array and a separate array for battery charging. The Flex pumps run off AC or DC, from 30...

I did my part today, On a large commercial building site, I was lifting bunks of steel trusses up on to the 45' high roof. This is a big project, headquarters for a large credit union, so lot's of various tradesmen. Noon comes along, and the guys I'm working with disappear, and I'm stuck on the site...

Talking with a seldom seen acquaintance at a birthday party yesterday, we both realized that we had been hurt worse in bike crashes then we ever had been in our previous decades of riding street and dirt motorcycles! Re: E-bike restricted trail access and hate

Part of my riding in town, takes me through a pedestrian tunnel underneath the railroad tracks. The slight whine (when out side anyway) of a previous hub drive was quite noticeable inside the confines of the tunnel. Anyone could tell it was an ebike. Now when I ride my BBS02 conversion thru the same...

Re: E-bike restricted trail access and hate

There is a short section of paved hiker/dog walker/biker trail I ride fairly often, when leaving my crane yard and heading into town. As the alternative is a busy 45 MPH (50+) 4 lane with no shoulder to speak of, I will usually add a 1/4 mile onto to my ride and divert to this trail. It's purposely ...

Re: US Administration places Tariffs on Solar Panel imports.

It will be interesting to see how this effects prices on panels, the last 100 watt flex panel I bought was a little over $100.00 USD. Thinking of running over and picking up a couple more for the cabin before prices possibly jump Why pay so much (per watt) for a flexible and no doubt shorter lived ...

Re: Chevy Bolt first drive

I did a bit of that today, the Jevons Paradox thing, running around town in my PluginPrius, in a way I wouldn't consider doing in my conventional strictly ICE powered rigs. Needed and useful, but not absolutely required, I justified it because I was on (mostly) my own PV power.

Re: The winner is . Not what you think

One thing about modern cars, electric or ICE powered, they are WAY safer then cars even 10 years ago, much less 20, 30 or more. The added safety features are a major cause of weight gain though. I read the accident reports religiously, and it's pretty amazing the spectacular wrecks that people more...

Re: Farfles Electric Ultralight.

James was able to make several landings in his belite in under 100 feet, so that gives a pretty wide range of landing angles on a 120ft wide runway :). That's exactly what I'm talking about! That 172 time will be pretty worthless other then for building time, The Cub better, but a J-3, Aeronca, or T...

Oh man, the excitement builds! That thing just looks right, nice and conventional in general layout that is. Your biggest thing is the usual, getting to know how a taildragger handles. If you haven't already, get some tail dragger time, NOT flying it but ground handling/taxiing it. One great example...

This entire thread reminds me why so many bike people have been also plane people (going WAY back....): Way back, before planes and bikes. Riding and flying are the same in ancient languages, and it was a tradition to give bird names to the best horses. Interesting derivation in the language. I alw...
