Re: Temperature sensor for multi-layer pack

I think I got something here. I chose to take the metal end off the led temp sensor to make it easier to work with https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190415/725ea760d12646fa948c7e30d6079437.jpg I discovered that some of the cell spacers have a gap. I can make a small hole and push the sensor into th...

Re: Temperature sensor for multi-layer pack

Hmm. I wonder if in general temp sensors are the same. I want to keep the LED displays I have 2 sensors with one dual led And 1 other sensor with on led So I would have enough to put 1 sensor in each 7s pack. I guess this is overkill? I could just put 1 sensor inside middle pack perhaps The temp sen...

Re: Temperature sensor for multi-layer pack

pull the top holder off, put the sensor between the center cells and hot glue in place, run the wire to the side between the cells and replace holder. if hot glue is not desired then use kapton tape to tape it -good- against the center cell. preferably 2 layers of tape. Flippy do you mean pull off ...

Temperature sensor for multi-layer pack

I'm wanting to put temperature sensors inside the pack I'm building here: https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=99374 It has 3 layers, and I have a dual LED temp sensor therm1.png The probes are quite thick and are metal on the outside. Can I heatshrink around these probes? will tha...

I got the iron! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190406/f2b9d0d2dcb4f35aa81d3493a989d0c9.jpg It does have a wide tip most of the heat comes when i lay it flat, I can use the corner. Might have to get a smaller tip It’s a lot easier to work with since it’s so lightweight. It takes a while to warm u...

Installing CA 3 thermistor temperature sensor in QS motor

Thanks Amberwolf really appreciate the advice here Ordered the statorade- i hope i don’t have to remove the motor from the stator, i was just going to squirt in between magnets (see photo). There was no temp sensor in the motor originally so i had to install one I’m excited to get CA working with te...

Re: 18650 21s15p - 3 layers of 7s (balanced separately) advice

Ok cool I'll just do the 16 awg between cells I have a high power Weller 250watt soldering gun, and lots of flux. Will flux each spot between the cells, put blob of solder on the tape (very quickly) Solder (tin) the awg 16 and when putting on the tape only takes a 1 sec maybe to connect awg 16 to ta...

Re: 18650 21s15p - 3 layers of 7s (balanced separately) advice

Ah okay- so get some awg 16 and go between spots like the yellow lines you did what did you mean by "BETWEEN the spots where you will need to weld afterwards." Do you mean I should add another 0.15mm nickel "weld" after I solder the awg 16 between (yellow lines) I'd much rather just add the awg 16 b...

Re: 18650 21s15p - 3 layers of 7s (balanced separately) advice

oh man I've got a bunch of 0.15mm from aliexpress *facepalm* I think what I can do with this pack is put some AWG 10 like the yellow lines you did I have awg 16 might be easier or another option I just thought of to double up on nickel. Add another layer of 0.15mm to make it 0.3mm? This would make i...

Re: 18650 21s15p - 3 layers of 7s (balanced separately) advice

Thanks for the reply- yeah I saw from the table 0.15 nickel at 8amps will be somewhere between ~7A acceptable and >9.4A poor/hot. I've got a bunch of AWG 18, I was thinking maybe even adding extra between cells also. Are you saying I probably shouldn't bother with the very long ones that connect the...

Installing CA 3 thermistor temperature sensor in QS motor

I recently got a QS motor and want to install the CA 3 thermistor temperature sensor in it. https://www.ebikes.ca/ca3-therm.html I've never taken apart a hub motor before and after a while to get the hub motor open I thought putting the 2 wires all the way through the axle is going to be a super pai...

Re: 18650 21s15p - 3 layers of 7s (balanced separately) advice

hmmm now I'm worried about the nickel as a conductor. Its strange because I've seen a lot of people making batteries with nickel strips (higher power packs) and there doesn't seem to be much concern over this. I saw this image from another post https://endless-sphere.com/forums/download/file.php?id=...

Re: 18650 21s15p - 3 layers of 7s (balanced separately) advice

BTW: The two lower rows in your picture look perfectly fine, upper ones are a fail. What i don't like about the strips is the very limited seriell current capability. I prefer 24mm wide 0.15mm nickel strips. But they only come w/o slots. Hi Izeman, Do you mean my image of spot welded strips on the ...

Yes I can put a temperature monitor between the cells thats a good idea, what temperatures in deg C should I loo...

18650 21s15p - 3 layers of 7s (balanced separately) advice

I'm building a 21s15p pack split into 3 layers (for size and balancing contraints) - no BMS each string 10 cells LG mj1 + 5 cells PF Its going only need to produce about 120amps peak (my build link below with kelly controller limits battery to 80%) https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1...

Re: Ebike scooter project QS 4kw V3 72v, Kelly KEB72601

Battery build So I decided I'll just go with 21s15p = 150amps limit by 80% kelly controller = 120amps @ 88.2v = 10,584w Going to set the kelly controller lower and monitor the temperature of the motor under different conditions. I've read on this forum that QS motors can handle anywhere from 2x 3x ...

Re: Ebike scooter project QS 4kw V3 72v, Kelly KEB72601

So Robert got back to me and said 88.2v at 100amps is okay 8820watts He also said the motor was 4T, which seems low to me for a "high torque" motor and "balanced" version is 3T. After reading through some posts I’m not sure how much difference this will make because Kelly’s controllers have slow sta...

wow 150amps at 90v is 13,500watts! As much as I’d like to send more watts to the motor QS Motor guy said 84v at 100a was ok for a few seconds like for takeoff from stop (8400w) but no sure abou 88.2v at 100a (8820w) My only viable option is 20s or 21s If The motor can take 8820w then I’ll do it, but it doesn’t have a thermsistor unfo...

Re: Ebike scooter project QS 4kw V3 72v, Kelly KEB72601

Actually I do have 10 more spare cells - So I have 310 cells altogether - I could make a 22s14p = 308 cells - Charging to 4.05v would be 89.1v that means 140amps output would mean kelly controller at 72% = 100.8amps The only problem is splitting this into 2 packs = 11s per pack, my balance charger i...

Well its been a while since I made an update to this bike, but I'm doing a couple things. New motor! After much contemplating I've decided to order the high-torque version of my QS motor. I was wanting the torque from the start, and I don't want to go 85km/hr on this plastic ebike. 60km/hr top speed...

Re: Custom 5kW Vector (QS 205v3/Kelly/DNM)

Ah okay makes sense- I only have a small amount for testing since the cells are so damn expensive even from Aliexpress, ill probably just tape them together for my testing with BBSHD 1000w mid drive setup. They are 50a burst and only 20a cont. right? For my other project I just stuck with 300 cell 1...
