Re: Yamaha V Star 1100 Conversion

No, a wind generator will cost more energy while riding than it will generate. I don't think this is entirely true. I haven't actually tested myself, but in my opinion it will depend where you put the wind generator. I believe that if you put it behind the front wheel, where the radiator is suppose...

Re: How many Amps can this 3500W rated QS hub motor actually take? (build planning)

425A, holy shit, I guess I don't have to worry about using 200A then  . I think the bike originally did 70km/h @ 72V, not sure what it says about windings, but since my battery is well below what you ran it on, I shoudl be fine. Thanks John! How about controllers - this is a budget focused b...

Re: Yamaha V Star 1100 Conversion

Twice a year I haul a photographer around the island to cover either the Honolulu Marathon or the Dick Evans bicycle race. The bike race is about 175 miles from the time I leave home till I get back home. That's about the farthest ride there is here. Occasionally, I do a double back but it is still...

Re: Yamaha V Star 1100 Conversion

I am considering adding a very small generator to add some charge to the batteries as I ride. It doesn't put out a great deal of juice, but it should help extend the range some. The generator's output is about 12v at 1 amp. That's 12W, which is a ridiculously small amount of power, not including th...

Re: Yamaha V Star 1100 Conversion

Hello all, I've been a biker since I could ride. Bicycles just don't really do it for me but I've seen some very sweet builds here. I own a Yamaha V Star 1100 that died after I put 75k miles on her. I want to change it over to electric. I'm planning on using a Golden Motor 5kw as a mid-drive. I'm n...

Re: escooter not lasting as expected SLA battery

my bike is also a 48v battery, 52 cell lithium ion, i think, otherwise, yeah, itd obviously be different cutoffs. If it shuts off at 36v, then something is wrong with the system. A 48v lithium battery uses 13 cells in series to get the 48v (nominal), which is about 54v fully charged (4.2v per cell)...

Something the Chinese don't yet understand about (web-savvy) American buyers. They assume "there is a sucker born every minute and two to take them". Wait, that was a PT Barnum quote! Problem is, they're right. I've seen someone selling 12,000mah 18650s, and hundreds of 5 star reviews gushing about...

Re: DP-Ninja 8000W 72V 100MPH

You're the first person to tell me I haven't under spec'd my build. I hope you're right. I'm not expecting a Hayabusa out of this, but I wanted something closer to a 600cc performance, (0-100 at least) than a 250cc. It depends what kind of 600cc you're targeting since they vary quite a lot in specs...

Re: DP-Ninja 8000W 72V 100MPH

I guess it goes to show how rubbery these specifications are (in general. As eBikes.ca says, there's no such thing as an X watt motor). You could reach that speed, but there's no way you'd be able to sustain it without a thermal rollback. I'm building a QS 273 (8kw) model, powered by a Kelly KLS-14...

Re: DP-Ninja 8000W 72V 100MPH

I'm trying to build one with slightly higher performance than that, using the same frame. From the feedback I've been given, there is no way those performance specs are real. From owning a Vectrix, I do know cruising about 60mph on the flat takes about 8-9kw, My motorbike has a 3000W rated motor an...

I used my 2 month old M365 in light drizzle a few days ago and it became very slow It seemed to partially recover over the following few hours after charging, but is now very slow again despite being kept inside in the warm I've checked in side the battery compartment, and it seems perfectly dry, b...

Re: E-Bike XB-502 conversion project

Flux weakening to be very effective needs lots of exposed iron on the armature. An IPM inrunner is best for FW. Otherwise FW has a small effect. The controller can do FW, but it's not on since it provides a small increase in motor RPM. FW increases phase current and reduces motor efficiency. Ah yes...

Re: E-Bike XB-502 conversion project

If your only problem is top speed, can't you find a way to do flux weakening? I don't know what controller you're using, so maybe it's not possible on yours, but I think that's the only way you could have both torque and top speed without having to use a mechanical gearbox.

Hi all. Im new at this (as my question might show) I have a e-scooter with a 36v system and I want to connect a 48v battery and controller to the 36v motor (the motor is new,and i cant find a motor the same size, so that is a problem) So is there any way I can make the 36v motor work with the 48v c...

Re: Electric Chopper/Bobber/Custom - motor tips

Being able to take out 40kW for a couple of seconds sounds awesome. I am just concerned that 8kW will not be enough to sustain 100km/h. If I calculate with a drag coefficient of 0.5 I get that roughly 8kW is needed to drive a motorcycle in 100km/h. My motor is just a 3000W and it sustains 120km/h w...

Ok so final rundown on the controller and fixes ive made. So ive tested it at peak power and everything seems good. Lifts the front up with ease, pulling about 8-10kw. My best guess with the old controller is that it was a dud from the get go and was going to blow either way. Other problem i had wa...
