Re: Use spinel cells in a battery pack as balancing method

The BionX LiMn 10S6P 9.6Ah pack was still holding 8Ah of charge after 7 years and was running pretty well overall. Self-balancing seem not to be a problem, however due to age and usage (high amps) the voltage sag was pretty annoying. I am currently using the "self-balancing" capabilities of LiNiMnCo...

Re: Bafang BBS02 - non-bafang aftermarket crank arms availab

It looks like the buzz bar are available - anybody has any experience with them ?
These cranks should be stronger than the stock Bafang - and lightweight.
Offset is 0mm which is a bit unexpected to be honest.

Re: New Samsung cell 33G

The question is whether this cell is really produced by Samsung or they just sold a crappy 35E recipe to China. Samsung has a good reputation for not exaggerating the specs, the 10C raises an eye brow here. The overenthusiastic list of specs seems to favor the initial speculation. Meanwhile, both Er...

Re: BBS01 Controller Upgrade 36V to 48V

Thanks Doran. Mine is a little 250W - I will probably get a new controller from Luna and check if it fits.

The idle current on my BBS01 is 70 mA without a screen and 80mA with the screen mounted (3-4W).

Did anybody measured the 9 FET 48V controller for the idle power consumption ?

Re: BBS01 Controller Upgrade 36V to 48V

(bringing this thread back to life...) The upgraded model in question was the new BBS01 B ? I ask because I got the information that the model B 36V and 48V controllers are incompatible. 36V controller could go up to 12S with 80-90% charged battery anyway but it's a rather odd voltage for an ebike b...

Overvoltage protection for displayless BBS01

Question How is the display able to override the controller voltage protection ? Case study C965 with a zener diode @ 45.8V the motor works just fine. W/o display the motor hits the default voltage protection at 44.6V (same as the screen without the diode). It appears that I cannot use my custom bat...

Re: Bafang BBSxx - fault finding and fixes

Check your start current settings I did. I increased from 10% to 20% and the juddering become more subtle. However, after some tests, I noticed that this behaviour is intermittent. Motor starts well and at about 40rpm there is some "hesitation". It's always in that region. Most of the time is not e...

Re: Bafang BBSxx - fault finding and fixes

I have a problem with my BBS01B - although, I think it's probably software related. It's happening only in PAS mode and it's more noticeable when I pull from a stop. The motor is juddering like a petrol engine in the wrong gear, after 2-3 spins the power is back to normal. This does not happen when ...

Use spinel cells in a battery pack as balancing method

I am sure many will advise against it. Here is the idea - use a couple of series of high power cells 18650, i.e. VTC5/6 in paralel with one or two series of V3 (spinel). The idea is that the VTC5/6 will do most of the work when high amps are demanded. At the same time the V3 will help maintaining th...

Re: BBS01B 20A safe with 18A current limit ?

To answer my own question - the B model will throw an error on the screen if the current limit is increased.
There are other parameters that can improve performance - without increasing the maximum current limit.

Re: BBS01B 20A safe with 18A current limit ?

I have a similar question for BBS01B produced in June 2016 and marked as 15A. The PAS mode is currently limited to 8A (~250W) and the acceleration mode to 16A (~500W). Can I safely run 20A on this controller for a short period of time (starting from lights / etc) ? Neither the PAS mode nor the throt...

Re: BBS01 improving contact on bullet connector

Nice tip - however those connectors are just awful. I will be replacing them with some XT60/XT90 very soon.
On my kit the power wire isolation is starting to crack near the connector - not enough plastic - a good place to add some shrinking tube too.

Re: 10s 41v charger, where to find?

The easiest way I find for making a 41V voltage is either by using 2 laptop power bricks at 20.5V each or by using a power supply (or the existing charger) with an efficient DC-DC converter with current and voltage control (modern 80+ PC power supplies are working this way). I have used the ZXY6005S...

Maybe some fellow ES members can help me figure how I can set the display to show the power meter more than 5 seconds.

Is there a way to display the power meter constantly on C965 ? Thanks!

Re: To mid drive or not to mid drive

Thank you all for your insightful advices and useful thoughts. After months of research, my mid-drive is installed. Went for a test drive and... what a joy this kit is compared to my former DD. It's quiet and refined too. My old battery is rather pleased with it. Now, I will need to replace my old b...

Re: To mid drive or not to mid drive

Yes, only that I will be switching to a geared hub motor - much lighter and less dramatic at low speeds than my bionX. I was rather impressed by the range and the torque of a small 250W geared hub - pretty fun to drive in the city too. I am tempted to try the The Luna version of Xiondga 2 https://lu...

Re: To mid drive or not to mid drive

For the record I am still riding my bionX at the moment. The extra weight on the rear wheel makes the bike feel heavy. I was thinking that I could save weight with BBS02 but that might not be the case. With the same number of battery cells, BBS02 will probably only improve the weight distribution. S...

Re: To mid drive or not to mid drive

Thank you guys for your input. I've finally got my hands on a BBS and had a test ride. Even though it was the 500W model with stock setup, I found it quite powerful. Just as I started pedaling the engine pushed a great deal of power. Compared to my DD, the BBS acceleration from standstill was almost...

Re: To mid drive or not to mid drive

Thank you all for the insightful answers. Shifting and replacing transmission parts it's not a problem - I already have some spare parts awaiting to be employed. To mid drive or not to mid drive

The Shakespearean e-bike dilemma - at least for me - is weather should I give away the simplicity and reliability of a DD hub for the smoothness, the torque and the weight distribution of a mid drive. And I am not talking about Bosch, Panasonic or Yamaha mid drives, but about replacing a 350W BionX ...
