Re: LTO Lithium Titanium Oxide (Titanate) Battery 30S - Seeking the Ultimate Commuter Battery

I was looking that the Chargery.com 1500w 24s charger. I am still on the fence of getting the batteries from Inwo, they are a good deal but I also have been talking to a company in that will have the 20AH ones that some how are pretty light for LTO's at 515g per battery. https://www.alibaba.com/prod...

Re: Super capacitors to save battery life?

Hi Sam, I just replied to a post you had on yours about the LTO specs, I ended up moving for a new job and I have been busy with life and an must now just looking in to this again. I am pretty sure I am hard on the batteries. with the bike and I coming in at almost 500 pounds I use the break regener...

Re: LTO Lithium Titanium Oxide (Titanate) Battery 30S - Seeking the Ultimate Commuter Battery

To funny. I have not been on for months since I moved for my new job and adjusting to my new area. I thought I would log on to see if you had any specs on your build Sam and see how the LTO's were working out and you posted your very first results today! Hopefully by the end of summer I will have th...

Re: LTO Lithium Titanium Oxide (Titanate) Battery 30S - Seeking the Ultimate Commuter Battery

I have been using these 11ah LTO cells in my car for the last 6 months , don't have a bms on them since they don't suffer from under voltage or over voltage . I do monitor them and after 6 months they have not come out of balance at all . i have found that they hold 95% of their power from 1.95v to...

Re: LTO Lithium Titanium Oxide (Titanate) Battery 30S - Seeking the Ultimate Commuter Battery

With a 20-40 lbs budget you could have up to 3kWh battery that you could charge at 1500W with a high current power supply. You are pretty much limited by the outlet which will provide maximum 1.5kWh per hour independent of chemistry. So you could charge every time you stop while still having some s...

Re: LTO Lithium Titanium Oxide (Titanate) Battery 30S - Seeking the Ultimate Commuter Battery

Hopefully the price will come down a bit - that's why INWO's 11Ah @$9 LTO deal was too cheap not to give it a try. I have spoken with INWO before and he also messaged me about them, it is a good deal. It would result in a 22AH instead of 20AH for the voltage I need, the extra 2AH adds 5 more pounds...

Re: LTO Lithium Titanium Oxide (Titanate) Battery 30S - Seeking the Ultimate Commuter Battery

Sam, you have my full attention with your LTO build. About a month ago I started a thread on using Supercaps to help save my Li-ion because they were doing to quick. But the end of that thread I was sold on LTO batteries. I have spoken with Inwo a little on the subject and see he has posted here too...

Re: Super capacitors to save battery life?

This isn't fully relevant, but it is a bit relevant, and I think a bit amusing. My dad used a 11S (24v) LTO pack to charge a 12v battery, unregulated. 1. The 12V battery died, unsurprisingly. 2. The 24v battery "recharged" with some cells at 3.6v, and some cells at 1.8v, so heavy unbalanced (no BMS...

Re: Super capacitors to save battery life?

There's also public charging stations that use J1772 connectors (at least here they do) and deliver 32A at 240V. I'm considering building an 11Ah LTO battery and matching charging system that will allow me to charge very quickly when I'm around town. I guess it's not like this everywhere but at lea...

Re: Super capacitors to save battery life?

FWIW, I'd skip the caps; not enough benefit for the extra volume and weight. I don't use a BMS, I just use a Cycle Analyst (v2.3) to monitor Ah/Wh/Volts to be sure I don't run them down too far, and periodically check cell balance (which so far has not been a problem on the trike's 2p pack. If real...

Re: Super capacitors to save battery life?

A good quality beyyery shouldnt have weak cells/other problems after 300cycles....so i question the qyality of the packs you paid so much for. Ask what the problem was. For the same weight as those 22ah LTOs you could carry 60 ah of 18650s which would have 3000Wh of capacity likely lasting you all ...

Re: Super capacitors to save battery life?

You are really striking a poor compromise . Double the weight Much bigger volume 2/3 the capacity and range All for a slight reduction in charge time ? As was said early on, your 15ahr pack is capable of dealing with 500W of regen and a 1hr charge occasionally if that is needed. You just have to ma...

Re: Super capacitors to save battery life?

You should try this, to save battery life. 1) Actually pedal, 2) try to reduce weight, 3) get in an aerodynamic position like a lower tuck position or semi/full recumbant position 1. I do peddle, always. 2. Lost 18 pounds on this last trip across country, 265 to 247. 3. Love my Surly Ogre mountain ...

Re: Super capacitors to save battery life?

LTO are sometimes called supercapacitors, because some models (mostly high end) behave more like capacitors than batteries, the capacitance issue aside. I've seen some that can charge at 60C without damage. LiPo can discharge at that rate, but try to charge it at that rate and you're asking for a f...

Re: Super capacitors to save battery life?

Awesome trip! I've been thinking about trying to hit the south pole on a fatbike with a portable solar array. Did you have much trouble with wind wanting to blow the panels around? Were you happy with the performance and durability of those units? Solar panels worked great and they lay flat on the ...

Re: Super capacitors to save battery life?

Is it possible to add just enough super capacitors to capture regenerative breaking and also supply that initial boost of power? If you wanted to get fancy and add a dual-link system (i.e. your ultracaps power the motor, and a controlled-current switcher links that to the battery) maybe. But 500 wa...

Super capacitors to save battery life?

Hi, this is more of a question about it being possible. I searched the forum before posting but didn't find the answer. I do a lot of eBike touring and in March I rode the southern tier 3166 miles across America. Last year I have about 5500 miles of touring. I have 2 52v 15AH batteries (lithium) whi...

Re: CA3 Throttle indicator - blinking?

Problem Solved. Incase anyone else makes this mistake and finds this thread. The flashing throttle on the CA3 at start up was caused by incorrectly setting up a 'buffer' for the Throttle input voltage and output. My throttle input at 0% throttle was 0.86v and at 99% throttle it was 4.23 volts. The m...

CA3 Throttle indicator - blinking?

Yes, it looks like a single magnet. Those are magnetized so it behaves like two magnets. One end will be north facing the hall and the other end will be south facing the hall.
