sorry yes - now corrected - it is a 10,000mfd 63V low ESR job - used in audio amps.

Re: LiPoly powered 18HP Twin Motor Brushless MONSTER build!

Luke, I use a slightly smaller version of the motors you use but the same controller. My setup pulls 140A+ when I crank it open at low speed - even with a very healthy and capable nimh pack behind it the volts drop enough to cause 'apparent' sync issues - and this is on 24V. I have 6 motors here tha...

Re: Scotts 5th - uh 6th build! now with a video - sorta!

Wow, has it been this long??!!!!! Overgeared for sure - but the aim was for 35mph or so which is almost exactly what 24V gets me. I fried a few more of these motors but have been running the same one for the last 2 months with no issues. I have had to mod the endbelll to accept 4 fan blades. These d...

Re: Scotts 5th - uh 6th build! now with a video - sorta!

etard, You have to bear in mind it doesn't have any real accel at less than 20mph. As it is now on 24V it has good fast accel between 25 and 38mph. It is a narrow range but it suits my needs very well. It does require pedalling along with a little effort and gentle throttle use all the way up to 20m...

Re: Scotts 5th - uh 6th build! now with a video - sorta!

Kyle/John, Yep, no rear brake as yet - that soon to change though - like within the next month. Regarding suspension, I have ridden and/or owned a number of bikes both with and without suspension. I too know how hard it can be on your own rear end even on regular roads at low speeds so it was a prio...

Re: Scotts 5th - uh 6th build! now with a video - sorta!

John, Its not the pack - its my weight making it dive. It was worse with it on my back since it was higher up. And yes - it dives exactly the same as any other bicycle set up with soft long travel suspension! This means its also very hard to put any effort into pedalling - bob bob bob!!! Trust me on...

Re: Scotts 5th - uh 6th build! now with a video - sorta!

John, I am using a Kontronik Jazz Power. As regards squat and dive - yes it squats quite badly - but then I do run it very soft to emulate motorcycle suspension. The freewheel means there is no dive normally unless going from hard accel to coast when it feels like dive but its just levelling out. It...

Re: Scotts 5th - uh 6th build! now with a video - sorta!

Yeah that could be made to work - I have one good reason not to do it that way though! Simply put - I don't need to do 50+mph. In fact - doing more than 30mph on a public roadway almost guarantees getting pulled over if I am seen by the Police - which will happen almost daily on the ride home. Sure,...

Re: Scotts 5th - uh 6th build! now with a video - sorta!

Quick update. Got carried away on the way to work - so many AH of battery to play with I just couldn't resist. Acceleration between 35 and 55mph was just silly fast - really really quick. Going from 55 to 58 took a long time though - a few seconds into this last phase and I felt a hiccup. Pulled ove...

Re: Scotts 5th - uh 6th build! now with a video - sorta!

Kyle - no news since the motor still has not arrived:(

Frame looks a good candidate:)

Only show stopper with the bigger motor for me was its length - longer than the space between the pedal arms - reckon you'll have to cut one end off the shaft:(

Kyle - its a 160mm disc - cheap one - fully slotted - they line up nicely, just widening of the slots required:)

Re: Scotts 5th - uh 6th build! now with a video - sorta!

I am not sure how the heating has made this problem worse but it has - for now it won't run  Don't neo-magnets poop at 80*C? Sounds like heat-induced magnet death. It has that too! But I was referring to the number of magnets rubbing the stator - not specifically the lack of workyness!

Re: Scotts 5th - uh 6th build! now with a video - sorta!

Well the Jazz didn't solve the start up nor the hard acceleration issue. Still, I had a play around with it - now running 25 cells taking it back to a top speed of 50mph. I never actually reached that speed since after probably forty 0 to 45mph runs the motor got really sick and wouldn't turn. Yes -...

Re: Scotts 5th - uh 6th build! now with a video - sorta!

Well here is a pic of the battery pack in progress - it looks huge now but I think once it is under cover (not sure on colour yet - black or grey to match swingarm) it will look fine. My legs clear it when pedalling and the bike weight distribution is very close to 50/50 - just very slightly forward...

Re: Scotts 5th - uh 6th build! now with a video - sorta!

But Scott, you're running 36v now? I'm wondering if I should figure on running a bit more voltage... I just don't know yet. Once I get the bike in I'm going to try and figure a way to mount the big 130kv motor on, however I have no problems going with the smaller one that Scott did. Thanks again fo...

Do you live in the UK? If so I gave links to my suppliers either in this thread or the one in general discussion..... I'm in the US, I'm mainly interested where you got your bearing that was press fit into the sprocket on the motor. To help lower the gearing you could always go with a 24in tire... ...

I suppose I could just cut the battery in half and hang it over the frame like the other bike...... at least I have the pack in 'actual size' now to play with.

Well, I got the pack assembled but not wired up yet. Mounted it in the rucksack and OMG its heavy!!!! I'll carry on with this one more day then cave in to de-stealthing the bike an...

Re: Scotts 5th - uh 6th build! now with a video - sorta!

Good to know the numbers add up Matt:) And yes, these small motors do rock - to the point of too much power!!! Its a very fine line between accelerating at what feels like a moderate pace and pulling a wheelie - no doubt helped along by the 5KG (soon to be 11KG) of batteries on my back (just a tiny ...

Re: Scotts 5th - uh 6th build! 2.8KW - ohh baby:)

I got confused about the sprocket... it is splined? (but floats horizontally?) I have pressed a drawn cup roller clutch - 10mm ID into the sprocket which I machined to 13.85mm to take the roller of 14mm OD. The sprocket literally floats on the shaft at idle - under load it is of course fixed in pos...

Kyle Kyle, I don't have any data in numbers other than range I have seen with this 24V 15AH pack (360WH). My meter only g...

It was a simple vertical worm with the motor on top and the bevel mounted in 'front' with reference to the bike frame. The beve...

Re: Using RC motors on E-bikes

Jeff, agreed. The controllers are not built to drive a stalled motor who's resistance is less than .5ohm............. So you are going to see a limit but at least that limit will save the motor from melting down. As you say, whats needed is a ruggedized controller that can actually ramp down when it...
