Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

Dave

I've got one of your earliest kits, v2 I think. Does the new maintenance protocol and internal apply? Mine has a screw cap to inject the lube. Is that no longer the way to do it?

Thanks

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

Well I have just test run the bike with the new shunt in place...holy cow is all I have to say...gears? Which is good because this upgrade fianlly tore my alfine 8 apart:) Who needs them now?! What a nuts upgrade...at first... What is this upgrade, I'm not following, must have missed it in the thre...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

Just posting up my solution regarding some chain skipping/drop issues I had previously. Solution. I sourced a very long tooth profile narrow/wide derailleur cog. Put this on a beefy aftermarket tension arm and then threaded a bolt thru the end to limit travel at extreme. This allows for adequate mov...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

Cool review, thanks. What are you using for coolant?

Dave,
I can't recall if I've asked, would the new chain ring set up work with the previous Gen even though the motor drive is slightly different? If so, how would it change the chain line from motor to crank set?

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

This drive is easily removed from the frame in only a few minutes, turning the bike into a 34lb enduro beast. A custom mounting bracket matches the lines of the frame and shows no flex under a full 8kW load. The freewheel crankset can remain in place or is quickly swapped with a standard crank arm ...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

Crank /spindle problem Looks like I have bent the crank or spindle. The chain ring shows side to side movement when I rotate the crank. I experienced lots of this back in my bmx days having bent cranks, back when cranks were mostly single piece due to my extreme preference for one for forward over t...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

Can anyone pm me with a bike builder/shop on the east coast (preferably) that can help me sort out my build? I'm coming up with a blank for ebike shops/builders. Honestly, your best bet is to ask around here and save yourself the markup and mistakes... It might seem daunting, but I was essentially ...

New SS chainring, irregularities in teeth, will it prematurely wear my chain?

I ordered a high strength ss chain ring for my tangent 6kw mid drive. Now that it's arrived and after inspection I found several teeth that have irregularities. My concern is that since the chainring is the most wear resistant component and since it has irregularities it will accelerate the wear of ...

Re: Is Graphene Tire Revolution Finally Coming?

Until we better understand the health risks of graphene exposure, it seems like gross negligence to put it in a product that is designed to shed its material into the human environment. Molecularly, this stuff is much gnarlier than asbestos. Think free-floating razor blades to asbestos's sharpened ...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

I'm looking to use a wolf tooth steel Chuck ring. It's 24 t like stock but 74bcd to fit my spider. The sick bike parts steel one lasted about 500 miles for me. I did damage it by dropping the chain a few times and jamming it. I'm pretty sure it's also a mild steel not stainless. I haven't used the ...

Custom Spider for 1st Gen Tangent mid-drive; Gauging interest

I've designed a spider to allow the use of off the shelf chainrings instead of being limited to the sickbikeparts 24T custom chainring. It will likely require the use of custom chainring bolt spacers for each individual application, but these are readily available, as are various length chainring bo...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

Nice, I didn't know about chain ring spacers, I'll look into that. I was just planning on having it machined so that it provides the right clearance between the two chain rings. Spacers will definitely make it more versatile. Looks like https://wheelsmfg.com/products/crank-pedal-parts/chainring-spac...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

Is there a better spider/freewheel setup to use? I've noticed a concerning weeble-wobble in mine and I find the clearance of the inner chainring to be very tight with the spider itself. Wouldn't mind swapping it out for something a little higher quality and better clearances. Might be why I've thro...

Re: Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

Varying the jockey wheel size is a good idea. I'll make the arm of the tensioner a bit longer as well and use a stiffer spring. Also I think it might help if the jockey wheel had larger profile teeth on it, more like an actual cog/chainring instead of the smaller/shorter jockey/derailleur profile. ...

Hey FastJohnny, Nice setup, your mounting brackets don't look like the standards. Did Dave custom make those for your frame, or are they another series offered?
