Two expensive but very good lights: Supernova M99 Pro (449€) https://supernova-lights.com/en/products/e-bike-lights-45-kmh/m99-pro/ Daytime running lights, low beam/high beam 24-60VDC (75V max), so you might need DC-DC converter if pack voltage is too high. From my own experience, it's better than l...

Re: new cyclone 3000 w mid-drive kit?
From pictures it seems the new kit doesn't have second bracket connecting rear of the motor to BB.
So IMHO they made it worse.
PS. That poor sprocket engagement will only become issue on the "walk of shame" scenario

Re: Portable snow tank for towing skiers
Cyclone 2-6kW is peak power. With some modification and depending on cooling, you might get up to 8kW peak from these.
QS 3K mid... Folks here have pushed beyond 20kW and still haven't overheated it. So far haven't heard any cooked motor.

Re: Portable snow tank for towing skiers
VESC should be capable of either with custom app or external controller. Custom app running on VESC CPU('s), keeping both RPM's equal, except when steering. Input through ADC or PPM/UART/CAN. Or VESC constantly reporting to master controller RPM/Amps/etc, which then controls VESC's. Comms through UA...

Re: Portable snow tank for towing skiers
Hall senators give you that feedback, right? Motor hall sensors give feedback to motor controller (vesc) for timing. Not (servo-like) position you need for your master controller, which has to keep the speed exactly equal. Also, what do you mean by “hall sensor signal noise?” Cyclone motor-specific...

Re: Portable snow tank for towing skiers
With PWM you'd need some kind of feedback of the actual RPM or you need to correct your steering constantly to compensate one motor going faster than the other.

Re: Portable snow tank for towing skiers
With QS-mid you'll need reduction, possibly two stages (unless you mean the one with internal 1:2,35 reduction) to get the rpm down, unless you want to go really-really fast. IMHO two Cyclone 3k/4k motors with it's internal reduction of 1:6 would be enough but not sure about pairing those with VESC'...

Would be interesting to see some real data:
No load current (at full rpm) with and without oil - to understand how much drag the coolant will introduce.
Motor temp with and without coolant.

Use thermal potting compound (I'd suggest polyurethane) to pot the stator windings. Secondly, use temperature sensor and a controller that either dials back power or cuts it when reatching upper temp. limit.

Re: new cyclone 3000 w mid-drive kit?
That connector should be rated to 60A max if I recall correctly. Thicker phase wires should help as well, but then soldering the connector on will be PITA. I used the same type of connector (before I upgraded to nucular) with powervelocity controller at 65/130A but with upgraded phase wires. Had to ...

You do need the display in order to reconfigure any input/output from display connectors to controller's connectors. That includes the on/off button.

What would be the point (unless it's thermally conductive silicone)? The idea of casting lower viscosity than gel/paste is to get good bonding between materials in order to effectively transfer heat from winding to outer case. Both, good bonding and good thermal conductivity are important in this ap...

Since carrier (the piece that holds planetary gears) is output, as you posted there are two ways to calculate gearing: a: 1 + "sun ring teeth #" / "sun gear teeth #" 1 + 55/11 = 6 b: ("sun ring teeth #" + "sun gear teeth #") / "sun gear teeth #" (55+...

Re: new cyclone 3000 w mid-drive kit?
The cyclone planetary is 5:1, not 6:1 they state that planely on their website. Cyclone 3k planetary is 6:1 unless they have changed/redesigned it completely. I couldn't find any info about it on their website. PS: From experience, I don't agree with your claims about q-factor and loss of efficiency.

Not plug-and-play; you still have to re-solder connectors. But it works very well and has enough power to cook the motor.
Same as above except instead of cooking you'll either melt or explode it (unless you can resist the temptation to crank up phase/bat amps).Thermo Nucular 24F

Re: Cyclone motor weird wiring
The red wire from battery+ goes through "ignition switch" and motor halls connector (JST) to controller's "ignition" pin. Controller feeds it's cpu through the ignition pin. Ignition switch should be understandable. As for the loop through halls connector - it's there to power of...

I have no idea, how long it will last with 50A. I'll bet Cyclone doesn't either. It all depends how you use it.
But it will prolong it's lifetime for sure.

Well, theoretically, everything is fixable but it will cost you at least 10x more. http://cyclone-tw.com/motor.html Here it lists planetary gearbox for $99 (6th item from the top). I would contact them beforehand, to make sure it will fit your motor. Make sure to ask, whether it includes planetary g...
