Re: My E-Scooter Upgrade Project

I consider this a pretty good tip! I have installed the O-ring version of the DID 219 chain. I ran the standard version over the past year and I really liked it. I didn't even know there was an O-ring version until I ran across it by accident, now I'm glad I got it. Here's what it offers: 1.Very low...

Re: My E-Scooter Upgrade Project

I've been planning an auxiliary battery for some time now and it's done.
ES photo.jpg
This brings my effective battery to 20S10P which is worth about 60 miles range on flat ground. My battery is now lasting longer than my butt!

Re: My E-Scooter Upgrade Project

There seems to be some excellent 18650 battery kits available these days. Check this out:

Re: My E-Scooter Upgrade Project

Oops, I just saw that your rims are 8". Same problem however, just see if you can get tires for your rims because the 10" won't work.

Re: My E-Scooter Upgrade Project

The Z50 rims and the OEM rims are both 10". If your rims are 12.5" then the 90/90-10 Michelins will definitely NOT fit. I would see if Michelin makes a 12.5" scooter tire.

Re: My E-Scooter Upgrade Project

Thanks for the compliments Gaffler. I would love to have belt drive and eliminate the chain. I also think it would be extremely quiet and look cool, however; I couldn't find all of the parts. I have a few ideas that I haven't tried yet, and the best one is to contact LightningRods (http://lightning-...

Re: My E-Scooter Upgrade Project

I didn't use hydraulic brakes on the OEM rims. When I upgraded the wheels I used the rotors that they came with and put the hydraulic brakes on as well. I used the original mechanical brakes and rotors with the OEM rims, but with the Michelin tires. You are correct: I didn't get the brakes as a kit,...

Re: My E-Scooter Upgrade Project

I don' t mind cluttering up my thread, the more exchange of info the better. I put my Michelin tires on my original rims and had them there for a few months until I upgraded to the Honda Z50 rims. They are the same diameter but the OEM rims are narrower by about .5" The tires fit fine on both rims, ...

Re: My E-Scooter Upgrade Project

You are very welcome Gaffler. It's been over a year now and the Michelins are still going strong. I believe they have much more life left in them and I'm approaching 2000 miles. I'm guessing about 5000 miles useful life. The brakes were from Ebay and here is the description: "Yamaha UTV Brake Calipe...

Re: My E-Scooter Upgrade Project

It’s been a while since my last post so here’s an update: I have ridden well over 1000 miles, and heading pretty quickly to 2000. Everything is working great with no mechanical issues. The battery is still as strong as ever and I have a little under 100 cycles on it. The range is about 40 miles if I...

Re: My E-Scooter Upgrade Project

Thanks EG. From what I can tell these are identical to your brakes. The metal brackets that come with them are different, but that just meant I had to make slightly different fabricated brackets. Either way, they work great and I'm thankful for the recommendation.

Re: My E-Scooter Upgrade Project

They are not floating calipers, they are hard mounted to fabricated brackets, and there is a lot of brake material to grab the disks. I was most impressed by the linearity of the application and the braking power.

Re: My E-Scooter Upgrade Project

This part of the project is complete: I installed the front brake caliper and master cylinder.

I also completed the 12V system, so now I have my brake light back. I just need to install the turn indicators.

Re: My E-Scooter Upgrade Project

I’ve done a lot of riding in the last month and I’m not too far from my first 1000 miles. All of the parts for the hydraulic brakes showed up a few weeks ago but I’ve been putting it off and riding instead. Well, I decided to at least install one of the calipers and I’m very happy with the result. I...

Re: Currie Kick Scooter conversion

Yeah, I tell people the performance of my scoot and they are amazed such a small thing can go that fast for that many miles. It's a ton of fun and I've noticed that the bicycle is getting quite the layer of dust.

Your $500 investment is an amazing bargain for your expected level of performance.

Re: My E-Scooter Upgrade Project

Thanks EG, I totally scrapped the idea of using bike brakes and have focused on the scooter brakes. I got LH and RH (the RH has come in already) master cylinders that look exactly like the one's in the pictures. The parts I have come with the switch, stock long lever, and 8mm holes for the mirrors. ...

Re: My E-Scooter Upgrade Project

I was planning on making my own brackets from .25" aluminum, that way I can get exactly what I want. So, do you like this type or the "Huating" type of caliper?

Re: My E-Scooter Upgrade Project

I've bled hydraulic brakes on cars and motorcycles, and it is a pain. Do you have a preference between your front and rear calipers?

Re: My E-Scooter Upgrade Project

Thanks EG, I appreciate all of the pictures and info. I was able to find front and rear in both of the different styles you have, but couldn't tell which was better suited to our bikes. It seems the "Huating" caliper is more compact. I assume the contact area for the pads is basically the same, and ...

Re: My E-Scooter Upgrade Project

Yeah, it all had to go up front and that's why I settled on the 7P vs the 8P that I wanted. The stuff in the front could not move forward at all. On brakes, do you like the caliper that is in the front of your bike, or the one that is in the back better? I have found both styles and I can get the on...
