Re: kWeld - "Next level" DIY battery spot welder

I got mine, works wonderfully. Best spot ever, and I have rewound transformers on 110v spot welders before. Nicest and consistent welds I think I may have ever made. Thanks 8) Does this welding machine have a duty cycle not to be exceeded? It will protect itself from overheating. But to my experien...

Re: kWeld - "Next level" DIY battery spot welder

When i add kit to my cart i have mwst (i guess its VAT) 19%. When i buy something online i always pay VAT in my country. Why this is different? EDIT: My mistake - i added adress in Slovenia (my friends adress) so thats why VAT is added to total price. When selling to private buyers in Europe, then ...

Re: kWeld - "Next level" DIY battery spot welder

My biggest problem with welding copper with kweld is that it seems so hard to make good weld at negative end of the cell. That seems to be related to the fact that kWeld uses DC current, although I have on my list to do further experiments to see if it isn't actually related only to arcing. I alrea...

Re: kWeld - "Next level" DIY battery spot welder

Is there any merit in minimizing the length of the battery cables? (AWG10) Yes and no: replacing them with 8AWG would help a lot (I was in fact discussing with battery manufacturers if they would be willing to make these - no). But the setup will always have a weakest spot (no pun intented 8)), and...

after replacing to XT150 i stepped up from 1350a to 1650a and got better welds.
but damn ....0.3 nickel isnt the best idea =)
Keep watching battery temps regularly, I recommend to not exceed 50degC.

Re: kWeld - "Next level" DIY battery spot welder

why you people (kWeld, malectrics,..) use bus bars? The soft fact: I wanted to design kWeld such that everybody can assemble it - no soldering involved. The hard fact: the bus bars are part of the current measurement circuit that kWeld needs for energy metering. A soldered wire would have varying o...

Re: kWeld - "Next level" DIY battery spot welder

What amperage are you guys getting with kCap ? kCap will be around 1100A with kWeld. This is enough for 0.2mm pure nickel, and 0.3mm works but could use more power. It is 3S2P Maxwell BCAP0310, which was the best cost/performance tradeoff that I could find. A 5S2P configuration would deliver 1700A,...

Re: kWeld - "Next level" DIY battery spot welder

The incorrect cable length settings ("CableLen") on the spot welder might cause the Overcurrent message. The longer the cable is set, the lower amperage is triggering it. I had mine set at 1.2m and it would not pass over 1700 A. I corrected it to 1m and I can pass calibration at 1865 A. Please don'...

Re: kWeld - "Next level" DIY battery spot welder

a) 4s (14.8V) 16,000mAh 10C (this would make 160A continuous) b) 6s (22.2V) 5,800mAh 25C (145A continuous) They are both likely produce enough current, a because of its high capacity, and b because of its high voltage. But this also depends on their brand and age, because of their internal resistan...

Maybe disassemble it and clean the surfaces. This could also mean that one of the MOSFETs is blown. Do you have a magni...

Ps: I hope this is not too much off the topic. I have not seen much this kind of test numbers around this welder. I find this very valuable! Re: kWeld - "Next level" DIY battery spot welder

I'm using a little 3s 4.4Ahr Graphene Lipo with my welder. I charge while welding with my bench supply set at 12.3v. Keeping the battery voltage constant maintains consistent weld results. I was worried about big transients backfeeding my supply so I placed a large inductor in series with the charg...

Re: kWeld - "Next level" DIY battery spot welder

I would, unless it is not possible, like to power it from a cheap bench power supply (0-30V, 0-5A). Having read the kCap-manual-r1.0.pdf, and assuming I need a 30J pulse, waiting 6 seconds between each use is reasonable to me (and I would let the ultracapacitor charge for a few minutes before use a...

ordered too soon. I already asked... which revision kWeld do you have? Is there a class of shipments from DHL? I ordered much online and globally. DHL has been spot on.
