Re: Troubleshooting help

Doh! Taking the motor apart was actually one of the first things I did after checking my wiring. I mostly assumed the motor was the issue because I did something stupid when this motor was new and ended up severing a couple of wires. I thought maybe my rewiring job was to blame. Honestly I had FETs ...

Re: Troubleshooting help

I was actually thinking FETS but I wasn't sure. I guess my next step is to wire up my backup controller and take this baby apart.

Thanks everyone. Dogman in particular I'm a big fan of the knowledge you spread on the Sphere.

Re: Troubleshooting help

So a couple of things. I had time to take the motor apart and check my wiring and I haven't found any shorts anywhere. the motor is surprisingly clean inside with the exception of the ferrofluid I was running. I also tested the halls and they all checked out okay. I had time to hook up an old contro...

Troubleshooting help

Went for a ride this morning. Was powering to the top of a big hill and I lost power. I wasn't hitting it particularly hard because it's muddy where I'm riding. And I don't believe I smoke the motor I wasn't anywhere near my thermal cut offs. But I haven't been able to get any response from the moto...

Re: PowerVelocity controller review

Is there a way to reset the odo? There was a period a while back where the odo was going whether I was actually moving or not. I suspected some sort of halls issue but before I did anything it just started working correctly. The bummer part is my controller reads like I put over 57,000 miles on it. ...

Re: Combining 3 LiPo batteries?

mean well hlg-320h-24a I've been using one of these to charge 6 paralleled 6s 10ah packs for about a year now. On the bike I configure for 20ah of 18s. Voltage and amps are adjustable and even though current drops to 0 once voltage is reached I unplug right away once charged. I check cells on all 6 ...

Re: Buying a 8000w E-bike?

There are a lot of factors for speed but the big one is voltage. I'm on my fourth ebike and weigh 200 lbs and so far 72v seems to be the trick for breaking 40 mph (without field weakening). For torque/getting up to speed quickly amps are the key. I see you bought a bike. If you ever decide to change...

There is also a traction control trick that will get you amazing power off the line. I forget the details but it is on the forum somewhere.

Re: Adaptto Midi-E overheating problems?

I ran an Adaptto Mini-E for about 6 months last year and had really similar issues out of the gate. If I remember right I solved the heating issues by looking for Ind Timing and Angle settings used by other members for the motor I had at the time (H3540) and by getting some thermal paste and small h...

Re: E-bike restricted trail access and hate

I have been riding and driving the Portland area since the early 90s. I don't think one group breaks the law more than the other. I see the same behaviors no matter what mode of transportation I use. I'm pretty sure it's human nature; both our perception of who is breaking laws and our tendency to n...

Re: Bulk charger for 18S Multistars?

Well that's just beautiful. I forgot that each paralleled block reads it's own voltage at +/- and series voltage only at the ends. The funny thing is I'm pretty much already set to charge this way. Each of my 2x paralleled packs has an extra lead from an older setup where I was running 3x. Thanks man!

Re: Bulk charger for 18S Multistars?

Hey Alan. How do you wire it up to charge the 3x 6s packs as separate units while they're still in series? Is it as simple as adding a charge connector to each or would that show series voltage at the connection? On my current setup I run 3 sets of 2x 6s packs for 18s 20ah. On the bike I have a 3 po...

Re: Bulk charger for 18S Multistars?

Hey Alan. Early on an ES member said I wasn't really bulk charging because I was breaking the string. He thought it was silly that I was charging multiple 6s packs instead of leaving it at 18 or 24s. I did explain that I charge all the packs at once so there is no difference in the result. The only ...

Re: Bulk charger for 18S Multistars?

I can also vouch for the HLGs , although some have pointed out to me that it's not traditional bulk charging. It's pretty easy to pull my load harness and plug in a parallel harness. Currently I only have one HLG, the same one as Alan B. I can charge 6 10ah bricks in about 3 hours which is plenty fa...

Truly amazing controller. With all the info available from Powervelocity.com and this forum, setup and adjustment were a breeze. It's an amazing piece of tech. Way more user friendly and reliable than other expensive and over hyped controllers out there. Very powerful right out of the box.

Re: Hobbyking 6S BMS

I like to keep the cells within 3 hundredths This sounds really cool to me. I was under the impression that they should be kept within 1 hundredth. It was several months of use before I saw a variance of .02. Lately all of mine are within 1 hundredth after a ride (3.8 and 3.81 or 3.79 and 3.8 ) but...

H3540 bearing replacement

Hi all. Is there some trick to getting the disc/wire side cover off of a H3540? It's time for a bearing replacement. The drive side is ready to go. Still have not managed to pull the disc side off of the stator. I've cut out the sealant and pulled the plastic seals, but this thing won't move off the...

Moto, I've only been at this a year so any insights a vet like you and amberwolf have to offer are much appreciated. Re: Hobbyking 6S BMS

Absolutely Motomech. I plan on getting at least three. I've got a couple from HK but they show slightly different voltages. I have one that checks out as dead on with my calibrated multi-meter. They also get so warm when I do even a little discharge with them that the screens fade out. I really appr...

Re: Hobbyking 6S BMS

Thanks guys. Two of my three bikes are "in the shop" right now so I won't be charging any lipo for a bit but I appreciate the help and tips. I know I'm not technically bulk charging but I find my method works for me. I basically disconnect my discharge leads and connect the charge leads. This takes ...
