Re: What Chainring/s is everyone running these days

Oh man! This new setup is the bomb! Riding into work today. The 54t chainring is great and the entire setup is butter smooth! I think the new pedals are a huge help too! I do still end up exceeding really the fastest I'm willing to pedal on my short commute right now but I can definitely keep up wit...

Re: What Chainring/s is everyone running these days

Oh my gosh... So I rented a capital bike for the first time yesterday...I had to go 4mi in the city across the natl mall... It was killer! Yea I have huge respect for real bikers now. My legs were on fire🔥...im hoping this new chainring allows me to build up my strnght and endurance without too much...

Re: Rear aluminum dropouts bent

Bummer dude! I always worry about mine since I'm running close to 2kw through my 1000w hub motor... I have a chromolly frame though with steel dropouts... I check them regularly and they're great thus far! I have plans for a torque arm..just haven't got around to it yet... that's my summer project!

Re: What Chainring/s is everyone running these days

Surprise surprise! The crankarms arrived early! Had a little issue with the fit though. I can't have the chanring on the inside of the spider or else it'll hit the frame... so I have it on the outside which is perfect..however, the screws are meant for the guard...so I used a few rubber washers sinc...

Re: What Chainring/s is everyone running these days

Yea I'm going to wait till I get the new chainring and crankset to see if I need a new wider bottom bracket. I'm 87.6% sure that my bottom bracket isn't the sealed kind so probably this weekend I'll pull it out and rebuild it and regrease everything. It spins great but you can create a noticeable wo...

Re: Juiced CCX or ATOM Diamond Wave Pro for 20mile each way commute

Few tips after I've done my 13.5mi 1-way trips to the office. 1. You'll likely want a battery higher than 48v... Maybe 14-16s would be good? You'll also likely need over 1kw. To give you some idea, I'm a measly 155lbs and 5'6", Ive got a rear hub modded controller for 2000w. My bike tops out at 2kw ...

Re: 3rd ebike battery. This time, doing it right

Few updates: I finally switched over from the frame bag to the battery box secured to the frame with velcro straps. Unfortunately the 12" length buckle straps are too long and I need to wedge something between the frame and strap to give the strap a secure connection to the bike...it was actually qu...

Matte black it is. I'm just going to use the 2 extra cans of flat spray paint I've got. I'll heat treat the hdpe. I'll post pics when I'm finished. 8 got my velcro straps yesterday.

Poll: What type of vinyl wrap for battery box

Well I wish we could do a poll post but not seeing it for mobile... Here's my current battery. It's semi opaque milky white hdpe on the sides and black hdpe on both the other sides. https://live.staticflickr.com/7894/47537808751_e66c22fbee_b.jpg I'm switching my setup from a battery bag that doesn't...

The wifey has a different opinion on my "fun" 13 mile commute... More like flat tire city...or the potential for there to be one...then I'm screwed... But I do carry a repair kit and new inner tube.

Re: 3rd ebike battery. This time, doing it right

Yea I get what your saying about the connections, I'm pretty sure this copper wick wire is very low resistance so I'm not too concerned about exceeding it's limits. I'm pretty sure it's somewhere around the 14awg with 1 braid, likely around 10-12awg with 2. The box is already built and I intended to...

Re: 3rd ebike battery. This time, doing it right

Oh and by the way. I've decided to ditch my battery bag idea. I'm going for straight battery box connected to the bike. The shape of the battery matches the frame of my bike so I have the idea of using metal and durable velcro straps to tie the battery down to the bike. I'll cut slots in the long si...

Re: 3rd ebike battery. This time, doing it right

The series connections are at least 2 pieces of copper braid (wick wire). The wire is about 0.5mm x 3.5mm. With the connections that look like just 1, I've double layered them to be 2 thick rather than 1. That shouldn't be an issue with the pack. I'm pulling around 2000w max draw for a few seconds t...

Ebike riding tips

I figured after the morning commute I had we could make a collection of ebike commuter tips.. This might already exist but I'm wondering if we could do a refresh. Tip #1 Always look where your turning. I'm not sure this is as much of a cycling tip as it is a motorcycle tip. When I was leading how to...

Re: Queen Battery QB26800 6800mAh 20A - the big guy!

Wow amazing capacity but I'm pretty sure Tesla has done all the engineering to determine the best battery size for multiple cell packs. I can see this being useful in flashlights or single battery operations, not necessarily an entire battery pack. Plus I think with the high discharge rates I real s...

Re: FIX for non trimmable Li-Ion charger that slightly overcharges eSkate

I've got a similar 48V charger that I just did this mod to it. I took a schottky diode and dropped it's 55V voltages down to 54.6 which is perfect for a fully charged liion battery. Only probablem is it charges at 1.7A which means my 1kw battery takes like 10-12hours to charge from empty.... I left ...

Re: Shorted cells condition

Your essentially doing nothing more than loading the cells to their max discharge. As long as they're not overheating I'd say they're good. This would be no different than placing an unfeasible load on the cells.

Re: Any connector for 600A?

I have to agree. It's going to look similar to Tesla style connectors on the inside of the vehicle. Also, I know it might not look the best but you may want to go with high visibility orange cable. Not sure where Tesla gets their cable as I'm sure they make their own but maybe check McMaster Carr. I...
