Re: 18650 Insulator Rings - Redundant?

For the $2 it costs to order 100 of these cardboard/fiber cell insulators it's well worth the piece of mind not having t think about a potential short somewhere with a 1kw battery between your legs... Might take a tad extra time but it's worth it imho

Re: Gonna get a used model S

It might sound like a particularly bad idea.... It's just 2 things. 1. I will eventually need a new car since I'm rolling around in my 2010 accord and 2. I freaking hate gasoline at this point having to drive out of the city to get gas since its $3.75+/gal in the city... Conceptually the electric ca...

Re: Gonna get a used model S

Uh not really... Waiting to buy a car till it's major years of depreciation have passed is a heck of a lot better than rolling off the lot with a brand new car and especially putting 10 miles on the car and having it depreciate $2000 in about 10 minutes... Plus I wouldn't generalize either. I wouldn...

Gonna get a used model S

If all goes to plan I should have a new job lined up for myself in the next few months... With that my aging honda accord from 2010 needs replaced... I'm starting to see model S's 60 and 85 starting to dip into the low $30k number. A mid range 3 would set me back about 40 so not really my kinda pric...

Re: 3rd ebike battery. This time, doing it right

Yea. I'm charging at a painfully slow rate... 1.75A charge rate which means it takes like 6hrs to charge it back up from my ride. Cutoff voltage for the charger is 54.6V as it should be and my bms is working properly so everything should be in spec. I was finally able to fit the 54t front chainring ...

Re: 3rd ebike battery. This time, doing it right

Few more updates: Had my first experience having some dude yell at me while biking to work... Well another biker coming from the other direction yelled at me. Not sure why...he looked pissed and I slowed down too...it's not like I don't obey the trail rules...Maybe he was just upset he didn't have t...

Motor assisted walking device

Hey guys... I got a crazy idea for some device that'll assist when walking in the city. I've been thinking there's not really a device that helps us walk or aid in our mobility beyond a scooter, bike, longboard.. So I've got an idea of a tread like attachment to your feet for an extra boost for walk...

Re: What Chainring/s is everyone running these days

Oh man! This new setup is the bomb! Riding into work today. The 54t chainring is great and the entire setup is butter smooth! I think the new pedals are a huge help too! I do still end up exceeding really the fastest I'm willing to pedal on my short commute right now but I can definitely keep up wit...

Bummer dude! I always worry about mine since I'm running close to 2kw through my 1000w hub motor... I have a chromolly frame though with steel dropouts... I check them regularly and they're great thus far! I have plans for a torque arm..just haven't got around to it yet... that's my summer project!

Re: What Chainring/s is everyone running these days

Surprise surprise! The crankarms arrived early! Had a little issue with the fit though. I can't have the chanring on the inside of the spider or else it'll hit the frame... so I have it on the outside which is perfect..however, the screws are meant for the guard...so I used a few rubber washers sinc...

Re: What Chainring/s is everyone running these days

Yea I'm going to wait till I get the new chainring and crankset to see if I need a new wider bottom bracket. I'm 87.6% sure that my bottom bracket isn't the sealed kind so probably this weekend I'll pull it out and rebuild it and regrease everything. It spins great but you can create a noticeable wo...

Re: Juiced CCX or ATOM Diamond Wave Pro for 20mile each way commute

Few tips after I've done my 13.5mi 1-way trips to the office. 1. You'll likely want a battery higher than 48v... Maybe 14-16s would be good? You'll also likely need over 1kw. To give you some idea, I'm a measly 155lbs and 5'6", Ive got a rear hub modded controller for 2000w. My bike tops out at 2kw ...

Re: 3rd ebike battery. This time, doing it right

Few updates: I finally switched over from the frame bag to the battery box secured to the frame with velcro straps. Unfortunately the 12" length buckle straps are too long and I need to wedge something between the frame and strap to give the strap a secure connection to the bike...it was actually qu...

Well I wish we could do a poll post but not seeing it for mobile... Here's my current battery. It's semi opaque milky white hdpe on the sides and black hdpe on both the other sides. https://live.staticflickr.com/7894/47537808751_e66c22fbee_b.jpg I'm switching my setup from a battery bag that doesn't...

Re: 3rd ebike battery. This time, doing it right

Yea I get what your saying about the connections, I'm pretty sure this copper wick wire is very low resistance so I'm not too concerned about exceeding it's limits. I'm pretty sure it's somewhere around the 14awg with 1 braid, likely around 10-12awg with 2. The box is already built and I intended to...

Re: 3rd ebike battery. This time, doing it right

Oh and by the way. I've decided to ditch my battery bag idea. I'm going for straight battery box connected to the bike. The shape of the battery matches the frame of my bike so I have the idea of using metal and durable velcro straps to tie the battery down to the bike. I'll cut slots in the long si...

Re: 3rd ebike battery. This time, doing it right

The series connections are at least 2 pieces of copper braid (wick wire). The wire is about 0.5mm x 3.5mm. With the connections that look like just 1, I've double layered them to be 2 thick rather than 1. That shouldn't be an issue with the pack. I'm pulling around 2000w max draw for a few seconds t...
