Re: 1970 Vespa 50s electrification project

Well things have been moving along, but at the pace of a turtle. I procrastinated the making of a battery box way too long, and when I finally had one made which I was to some extent pleased with, it didn't fit the scooter   So what I have decided to do now is: I am just wrapping the ...

Re: Classis Vespa Smallframe to EV

Hey Aaron, so cool to see that you've test driven the scooter!
What are your plans for battery and controller locations? will you be able to fit it all beneath the seat?

Re: Adding pictures?

Using Picozu, I finally managed to upload a picture!
Now the search starts for a software that can "bulk resize" images, a feature I have been wanting for so long.

Thank you all for your help!

Re: Adding pictures?

I have now tested the following, with a JPG format picture that gave me the same error message as above: 1. Original state: JPG, not resized. Error message: File too big 2. Kept JPG format, but resized to 800x1422 width x height. Error message: not possible to determine the dimensions of the image 3...

Re: Adding pictures?

Marty, thank you so much! BUT! I managed to send you the non resized version, crap! I'm gonna have another go at it... If you're still willing to help me. Edit: Just sent you another picture. I do just the same as you're syaing; resize to 800 width, save as, and so on... You'll see from the next pho...

Re: Adding pictures?

I understand that, though I was hoping that someone would understand what is wrong with the pictures as, like I said, I have done nothing differently from before. The pictures are taken with the same phone, uploaded to the same dropbox folder, resized to correct sizes etc. I guess the reason the ale...

Re: Adding pictures?

I have been trying to post photos by uploading from a folder on my computer lately, same way and same folder as always, but suddenly I get an error saying It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image. Re: Classis Vespa Smallframe to EV

Like I've said on PM, that's an absolutely stunning swingarm, and I can't wait to see how you get on from here!

Have you test fitted it into the chassis yet?

Re: Classis Vespa Smallframe to EV

Nice to see that you are progressing! The smallframe chassis has a reinforcement where the shock originally sits, so you will have to reinforce the opposite side too, to accommodate a 2nd shock. Also, the original location has an indent/pocket where the shock sits, which doesn't exist on the opposit...

Ohh and a little delayed bonus shot from the FLUKE IR thermocamera, showing maximum temp on the BMS during our 100A run. That's 56 degrees C.

Re: 1970 Vespa 50s electrification project

I reached a milestone today, and sent the swingarm in for final welding! I used last night to drill and file out a slot for the spherical bearing cup to be welded in, and I got it both further back and up than I thought I would, so super happy with that. The welder at my local machine shop said he w...

Re: 1970 Vespa 50s electrification project

Btw my sections are from mild steel, 355MPa yield, all 2mm thick.

The front is 40mm round tubing
The middle pieces are 40mm square, and
The rear pieces are 40x20mm rectangular.

Re: 1970 Vespa 50s electrification project

Hi, how did you determine the material and thickness requirement for your swing arm? What steel and thickness did you use? I'm building one right now, and I think I'm building a tank. I honest to god started with a 10mm thick 80mm wide flat section of steel. photo_2018-09-19_17-43-37.jpg If ...

Re: 1970 Vespa 50s electrification project

Thanks, The hole will either be where the mark is, and the bracket on the shock remade, or the hole will be higher up, like you say, to accommodate the current bracket. The latter will bring on some issues with the bearing cup being too large of a diameter to fit through the 40mm square profile with...

Re: Classis Vespa Smallframe to EV

So nice to see another Vespa/Smallie conversion thread! And straight off the bat, that throttle adapter you found is so much nice than the one I bought, and broke, and never got around to fix :D Just ordered one, thanks! I am extremely curious about how the rear braking will work out on this. it say...

Re: 1970 Vespa 50s electrification project

Alright, this is where I am at right now: - I had my battery pack tested at my brothers' works' lab, where it performed like expected: I was warned that my cells are not fit for any high currents, maybe not even at their rated cont. Amps (10A per cell). What we saw was that at 70A/4000W, they were d...

Re: 1970 Vespa 50s electrification project

Wow, has it been 1 year and 4 months already.. Actually I haven't gotten much further. I have tested the battery pack on a huge power supply at my brothers workplace. The batteries did fine, but the BMS popped a FET. I have also been at a standstill on the mechanical side, simply due to life catchin...

Re: 150A BMS "blown" at 110A during lab test. Video attached. What next?

Alright, so good news in the sense that I could replace the fet and possibly live happily ever after, though bad news in the sense that something might have gone wrong that I am not in control over. I can monitor the total voltage sag, like in the video, but not across every series connection. I mig...

Re: 150A BMS "blown" at 110A during lab test. Video attached. What next?

Thanks for all your answers, and thank you fechter for posting the data sheet! I don't understand too much of what the data sheet says, but I started studying the "safe operation area" on page 4.. At 50-60V and 110A/8 FET's = roughly 14A pr FET, is this not borderline "not safe"?? I mean, it looks t...

Re: A little nervous I've underengineered my pack, thoughts?

First test done. We had to quit the test when the BMS died on us at 110A. Unfortunately I have not made nice graphs like Henrik at lygte-info.dk does, but I have notes, pictures and videos. What I intended to test: 1. Low load over enough time to prove the functionality of the battery pack, and to f...

150A BMS "blown" at 110A during lab test. Video attached. What next?

Hi, I bought the only 16s BMS I could find that was supposed to handle 150A continuous, and the other day I was testing my battery pack for temperature rise, only to find out that the batteries did fine, but the BMS did not! After roughly 1/2 minute (1 minute 25seconds into the video) at 110A we hea...

I actually completely forgot you mentioned that somewhere higher up in this thread, that might be my solution! And I'll check out those sellers too, thanks :-)
