Re: Garage Sale: Dune Buggy, BMC, x5403, Fairing, Moped Motor Mount, MORE

I know where you are coming from, but if that is what it will take in order to build that 600 hp sand rail, so be it. 🏁🏁🏁 Years back I was part of a team that built and raced a mid engine VW sandrail at Pismo and Glamis. I can't imagine what 600 hp would have been like in that light weight frame. W...

Re: Garage Sale: Dune Buggy, BMC, x5403, Fairing, Moped Motor Mount, MORE

You're giving that buggy away. You are correct Nic, I'll get 15k+ from the rare Towdster reverted to its original gas motor, and the motor/adaptor/Zilla Z2K/factory a123 battery pack etc. I'd be willing to take a loss to keep it intact and not have to deconvert it, but I don't think there a...

NEW a123 20ah 30c cells, agnuism packmaker kits NEW

. . a123's AMP20 LiFe cell is the perfect combination of high discharge, fast charge, low thermal load, high capacity, and long cycle/calendar life. They have have a very low IR, and are rated at 30c/600a (10 seconds) and 10c/200a continuous. a123 rates the AMP20 for 3,000 cycles to 100% DOD. That i...

Re: 1,000lb "Elec-tow’d” Electric Tow’d Dune Buggy Build Thread

Will the next project be another conversion? Hi Nic! 600+hp Tesla S performance motor/cradle bolted to a custom sandrail frame, about 1,600lbs including battery. Magnifying performance with weight savings is still my priority over range. The smallest 400v pack within my design vocabulary that can d...

Re: 1,000lb "Elec-tow’d” Electric Tow’d Dune Buggy Build Thread

The time has come to convert the Electric Towdster back to a slow gas buggy, and sell it to free up space for my next project. This Saturday will be the 8 year Anniversary of its delivery, many highs and lows along the way. It only took a day to pull the EV stuff from my VW Bus, I wonder how fast I ...

Will a BBSHD interfere with an ISCG-05 chain guide mount?

I've been contemplating another BBS build, but noticed the frame has an integrated ISCG-05 chain guide mount which I'm pretty sure will interfere with the BBS HD's motor can. My searches are not turning up much data, has anyone run into this and what did they have to do? Assuming it does interfere, ...

$9,000obo The Electric towdster is now for sale! It currently registered/insured in California as a 1970 SPCNS "special construction" title. It has a ball joint front end with Disk Brakes, and an IRS rear with drum brakes. The front wheels have unique custom fenders, and it has custom low mounts for the original taillights. Here is the build thread/blog:

https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=50717

The ADC FB1-4001a series electric motor puts a ridiculous amount of torque into a 1,000lb Towdster (it is intended for a 3,500lb vehicle). It can do burnouts off the line in any gear, and while rolling you can break the tires loose with a stomp of the throttle. So much torque, it took a KEP Stage 3 pressure plate to stop burning clutches.

The acceleration at 900amps was too violent for me so I dialed it down to a streetable 400amps, but crazy power is just the turn of a digital dial away. Comes with an 8+kw a123 LiFePO4 battery pack (42s3p 20ah Prisimatic cells) from (3) a123 Factory modules (a 28s3p and two 7s3p). Has a Zilla Z2K 2,000a controller like the one used in the "White Zombie" drag datsun.

In an extreme-duty range test (basically stopsign to stopsign with hard launches) the battery pack was good for 25 miles. More conservative driving with less stops should yield 50-75 miles. I mostly drive it to the beach and plug it in when I get home.

To reduce the number tire kickers, test rides are given to buyers who are serious enough to bring cash.

Hi brokenblinker, Glad this helped, your duty cycle sounds ideal for an EV! Yep, with the 8 year/100k warrantee on the battery you wouldnt have to worry about it for 5.5 years on a 2015. Even so, it isn't like the pack goes off a cliff in 8 years - most batteries' cycle life is rated until they drop...

It seems like another lifetime ago, the project took so much time, over so many cycles of hard work and consequent burnout.
