Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

I'm 90% decided that I'm going to relace my motor into a 24" rim. Just playing with various motors and settings on the motor simulator, I think the combo, with Statorade, will allow me to climb 10% until the battery is depleted without melting, if I throttle down to 20-ish mph. After taking me...

Re: Best Mid-drive Motors in 2021

Just got a message from California Ebike and they are telling me there are no sources for pre 2016 motor. If there is anybody that would know, it is California Ebike. I have had really good luck with my BBSHD...maybe it is time for a change. I agree is sucks when a company stops supporting a product...

Re: Best Mid-drive Motors in 2021

I can't answer on the Bosch/Bafang question. I have had good luck getting parts from https://california-ebike.com/contact/...they may be able to get the parts you are wanting for the older BBS01/02 even though they are not listed on their web site. They have been very good to work with for my needs....

Re: E-bike mid-drive motors hardly outperforms hub motors

Lekkie makes a 28 tooth chain ring for the BBSHD and that is what I use along with a 22T White Industries freewheel and a 27.5x2.8 tire for off road riding.

LUNA sells a 30T chain ring for the BBSHD.

Re: E-bike mid-drive motors hardly outperforms hub motors

Which of these are stonger carrying a big load up a long steep hill IOW will shed heat the longest, assume a CAv3 will prevent damage The BBSHD will reject excess heat better than a MAC/GMAC. Which one will produce more excess heat? It depends on how the BBSHD is geared...assuming all other things ...

Has anybody programmed an ASI BAC XXXX controller?

They appear to be a really good option for higher amperage but I am intimidated by what I don't know.

Re: MAC/BMC maximum continuous watts?

I';m sorry but i gotta correct you. A. If you want to have a top speed of 0-20 mph, use a Bafang BBSHD. A small geared motor would work best for this case and have the highest efficiency. The BBSHD is capable of MAC-like power.. maybe you were thinking of a BBS01. You want a mid drive vs a hub for ...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

If you are going to run bicycle tires, look for something that is ECE-R75 rated for 50 kph.

ECE-R75 tires I know of are the Schwalbe Super Moto-X and the Pick-up, there may be other Schwalbe options as well as other manufacturers as well.

Re: High performance & durability Cannondale Semi Recumbent

I have already tested and tried the best of Schwalbe's product line as of 2019 and not seen anything close to thick enough for my environment. I have measured the largest goathead i have seen on the road, and it was about 11mm. In 'murica units, that's almost 1/2 an inch. Therefore that '5mm' of 'p...

Re: High performance & durability Cannondale Semi Recumbent

The problem with tire liners is that if you don't run high enough pressure in the tire to keep the tube hard-pressing the liner against the inside of the tire tread area, and especially if you don't check that pressure and keep it the same on every ride, the liner will migrate from flexing of tube ...

Just a tid bit of info on a relatively new tire offered by Schwalbe...it is designed for cargo bike use and has a higher load carrying capability than my old favorite, the Schwalbe SUPER MOTO-X. It is the Schealbe "Pick-Up"...here is a link to it: https://www.schwalbetires.com/bike_tires/...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Toecutter...why/how did you decide to go with a Leaf motor? Without knowing the background on your decision, I'd probably choose a motor with a 45-50mm wide stator and probably a 205mm diameter...something like the QS205 or something similar if I was going to run the power levels you mentioned. Goi...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

On the subject of a 3T wind 1500W Leafbike motor. It was mentioned on this forum that Leafbike does not make the 1500W in a 3T wind. I ordered a 1000W 3T wind and later was told by Leafbike that they were unable to fit the thicker 3mm phase wires through the axle of the 1000W version, so they're bu...

Re: MAC/BMC maximum continuous watts?

Ok, that impacted the results a good bit, but it appears a steady 35mph will keep temps well below 150, and 30ish cruise will still be in the hapy zone (114) It brought the top end to 43.2 with a 8 minute to overheat, I would imagine that if I were to ever top an hour it would be for 30 seconds or ...

Re: MAC/BMC maximum continuous watts?

I was surprised, but when i went 6t mac on the grin simulator for my super 73, with 72v i could pull 37mph top speed the entire range of battery (30mi) with no overheating. I'm not sure how accurate that would translate to real world conditions though. Its pretty flat here, rare to even encounter a...

Re: E-bike mid-drive motors hardly outperforms hub motors

Absolutely. A mid drive can be geared so that you can run the bike in the efficient rpm range and thereby keep the motor a lot cooler. Plus gearing a mid drive motor can give you torque multiplication and make it where you can climb much steeper hills. A DD hub motor capable of doing the same thing ...

Re: MAC/BMC maximum continuous watts?

I have always said the limit of a MAC is about 30 mph...either with a 10T in a bigger wheel or an 8T in a smaller diameter wheel. That means a 14S (58.8v) battery is about as high as you can go with the voltage. As far as the clutch in the MAC, I had one fail when I was riding off road and beating t...

I've heard from others that MAC can take 2kw continuously if the weight is below 275lbs but since the previous poster is 260 + additional weight of 60 at 52V 60A is 3100W with 600 miles on it, but is that 2500W+ very rarely or all the time? Re: What is the best motor for a mid drive build?

Whats so special about the Lekkie chain ring? Is it just that its offset or is it the narrow-wide teeth or combo of both or is there something more to the secret spice mix? Lekkie sells the motor sprockets from 28 teeth on up. Very simple to install with the only exposed gears being the sprocket on...

Re: Most powerful hub motor below 5lbs

I'm considering a few new builds. One of them is a 20" wheel hub motor build. The top speed should be somewhere between 28 and 32mph, with lots of torque. I'd be using an aftermarket controller, most likely one of the ASI BAC's. And I'd likely use a high-C 21700 battery pack capable of 45amps ...
