Questions about a Bike Friday with a tired 350w Bionx

Hello to all of you, I have been inactive on the technical side of ebikes for several years. Previously I was a field person for Giant's ebikes, Bionx, Cyclone, and several others. I have built maybe 50 ebikes for customers and maybe a dozen for personal use from 2001 to 2015. I had a custom Bike Fr...

Re: Pennsylvania Senate Bill 997

"capable of a speed not more than 20 miles per hour on a level surface when powered by the motor source only. " I thought that wording could mean-- that as long as the above limitation is true, then with additional leg power, the motor may continue to assist to faster speeds? sometimes thi...

Re: Pennsylvania Senate Bill 997

The definition looks good, (Would prefer 1000w and 25mph). However, what else is involved other than defining a vehicle? Are the e-bikes allowed/disallowed on certain roads, lanes, paths, etc? Will county or city governments have the ability to change the definition , or where allowed? What is the f...

Re: Chargers on a timer

Stick an ammeter in one of the charge wires and measure any current flow when it is connected but switched off at the mains. If you calculate the discharge to be too much you can insert a properly spec'd Schottky Diode on a heatsink to prevent the discharge. you might have to increase charger volta...

Re: Water ballooning incident just now!!!!!!!

Get license number. Call *DWI. I have done this twice in Colorado springs. The owner of the vehicle gets a phone call. Then the driver gets a visit. If multiple of these against the same vehicle, you have a good court case. The Idiots can stop picking on Bicyclists, or face some serious payback. d

Re: WOW! Brain overload.

You can spread the rear wheel dropouts some if steel. rear rack mounts and front fender mounts are important. there are kits to add rear derailleur hangers to single speeds. also, the handle bars and stem can be changed for better aerodynamics. but things cost now how do the bikes in your stable com...

Re: BionX 24 NiMH replacement pack?

not 24v but did a 36v nimh to 36v lithium in a rear soft pack.

the electronics would be easy, physical size is challenging.

did it overheat when charging to 26v?

if no, then you have an open circuit somewhere you should resolve.

if yes, then it is toast.

Re: Tires

gave up (too late) on my old worn out slick 2.15 Big Apple that I crashed on due to NO tread left. Were you riding on sand or something? The slicker the tire, the better the grip on pavement. That's why most race vehicles use slick tires on paved surfaces. Tread only helps your traction when the su...

dnmun , Then I place each of the two multimeter test probes on the orange and red processor wires. If the amount of resistance shows zero , then the wire/circuit is open or broken. Can you confirm? Am I correct in my understanding? If so, I will test this way tonight. nitpicky, but if the ohm meter...

Re: Yuntong 48V 20 ah BMS Failure??

if one throws away the odd reading from R50, they look good enough, not extremely well balanced, but will wait for the real experts to chime in.

although 4v/cell seems high for lith iron ph cells; sure of meter and sure of chemistry?

We have "Trader Joes" some really good wines for $3 to $4 US .

Maybe you need a "Trader Thor".

Good deal; snatch it up if down under.... the rear would be nice with a chain drive cyclone type motor, completely enclosed chain possible.

the front motor good for a different ebike if over volted maybe
