Re: Bafang 850C color LCD -- Flexible OpenSource firmware

I would be grateful for some technical guidance: how to debug, toolchain, IDE etc. I have nearly zero experience in microcontroller programming. ... I'd like to know this too so I can help, but the process of the learning curve here keeps me from having the time. Is it basically started with some k...

Re: Most reliable Mid drive motor kit?

I suppose you could custom machine every part in a mid-drive. It's just not possible for them to be more reliable when they have more parts to potentially break. Fifty thousand kilometers with no maintenance is a very unreasonable bar to set.

Re: Can't get KT LCD5 headlight function to work

I don't know if this is applicable to *this* LCD, but IIRC, one of the various other threads about LCD light functions vs external headlights/etc. mentions that the little electronic switch (FET) inside the LCD that does the switching is very low power, and is meant to just "tell" the light to turn...

Re: Hub motor industry dying?

I think all cyclist should automatically be covered by a special insurance funded through carbon tax, and the legislation should allow for motors up to 1000W (in relation to the weight of the vehicle) and 35km/h, which is the speed most cyclist reach in the city anyway. The stronger motors are requ...

Re: Battery draining 2x as fast on DD motor with similar controller

Update: Well I feel dumb because I didn't know till I happened on another thread that there was a huge array of settings that were adjustable on the KT-LCD3 for my controller. So, I simply turned down the "max current" from 10 to 5, which prevents the wattage from going above about 975 watts. This m...

What I like about front boom mounting is people can't see the motor easily. So the normal "recumbent stare" you get is more satisfying when you are riding one up a hill faster than on a regular bike.

Re: Can't get KT LCD5 headlight function to work

I gotcha, I figured that. Anyway, just seems weird the LCD does not work with these controllers when they have the outs/connectors for them. I asked the seller I bought it from and they said it should work. Mixing up the polarity of the lights wouldn't cause this, right? Because the signal is just ...

I just don't understand Euro ebike limits. 250 watts is ridiculously underpowered for an average person nevermind for a massive hauler. What am I missing? If you loaded that thing up with dirt like in their website pic I have serious doubts you'd make it up even a little hill. Is it supposed to be 1...

Re: Considering using a Trek Verve 4 for conversion?

You might want to upgrade to a front disc brake if you will be riding in wet conditions (don't think that bike has a rear disc tab) so if you do, you'd have to get a new disc wheel (or hub). As for the motor, if you are just riding on mostly flats you really don't need a mid-drive. But they are a bi...

I kept a wattmeter on the original firmware for more than 2 years and I know the engine behavior very well. The 36v motor was no more than 540w, and the amps setting was completely inoperative. Yea that's definitely not the case on mine. The amps setting with stock firmware does something but no on...

It all depends what you want to archieve. You can made an improvement comparing with the original situation you have now. Or you want the best thermal conditions for the motor, regardless of the costs. I think that every improvement is better than it is now. The most simple improvement is filling t...

Re: Torque sensor options and questions

Looks like you have to use the special controller and LCD for these torque sensors outside of the CA. I'm curious too if there are more options, but this makes sense because whatever system you are using would need the right programming to interpret the sensor. Seems odd there is only that one contr...

Re: New "TSDZ2 Torque Sensor Central Motor"

So do you know what the "A" means exactly? The manual just calls it "power". Like does 32 just mean it's on Turbo all the time? A is short for Amps or Amperes - which is a measure of current flowing. Ohms law states I=V/R where I is Current in Amps, V is Voltage in Volts, and R is Resistance in Ohm...

Er, why are you riding on the sidewalk? It's way more dangerous to cycle on the sidewalk unless you are going walking speeds. This is the same reason I hate MUPS. Oblivious people walking hogging the trail. Assuming it's legal for some reason to ride on sidewalks where you are, invest in a bell. Not...
