Re: Electric Hydrofoil/E-Foil

I will also share 3d files, but I agree with jezza. Would like to test everything first. Will machine aluminium motor/gearbox mount as well. I have a small cnc router that handles aluminium, so will do it on monday :). Will also machine an aluminium rib that goes around the gearbox to heatsink it d...

Looks very good. Can you share more details when you have time. Would you be happy to share the CAD/STL files too?

Just spotted that one too :-) Suspect it will go for a lot more than the cost of a new standalone gearbox.

Re: Electric Hydrofoil/E-Foil

I am looking to purchase a Neugart Planetary GearBox. I know the ple 40 gearbox I need to choose but which gear ration do I need to get? We ordered the PLE 40-005 (5:1) ratio. Which will give us about 4000 rpm on the propeller (unloaded), and probably less (around 3-3500 in real life). Lower rpm wi...

Re: Electric Hydrofoil/E-Foil

Is this one of you? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-zdHYI_ZkI I have that same motor just laying around unused, hmm... Thanks for sharing. On his other video it shows he can't get the motor to turn under water as it immediately goes out of sync. The prop is way too big and would need to be alread...

Re: Electric Hydrofoil/E-Foil

Just posted some illustrations of our 3d models here, will continue to post updates as we go forth. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10159438659855144&type=1&l=2e97c1f9fb Cheers They look great. We are still working on various drive options. I have updated the parts list based on feedback ...

Re: Electric Hydrofoil/E-Foil

Very non scientific look at some of the 3D printed test pieces I printed and different infills. Cubic at 20% is very strong. The fuselage tail gets very thin though so could not be used without laminating in carbon unless the design is changed. f6AB-GKarN4 Kudos to the designer of the foil, Prof. M...

Re: Electric Hydrofoil/E-Foil

I have been doing some digging into the use of brushless out runners. The Open ROV teams use these extensively for their thrusters. Many operate them without any modifications and just replace as needed but others go to a little more effort and use potting compounds to help prevent corrosion. The mo...

Re: Electric Hydrofoil/E-Foil

Hello notafraidtotry, yesterday I started assembly of the jet, just waiting for some sealings. Concerning the wing, how are you planning to use the printed parts? Cover them with carbon, or use them for making molds? Maybe I start printing them too, but it should make sense to add some grooves to p...

Re: Electric Hydrofoil/E-Foil

Hello, I am the designer of the waterjet from Cults. As I am working on the foil too, I designed a special jet for it.Here are 2 pics. I printed all parts, and received the motor (5692/ 540KV) it should run on 12s battery, and can be fittet to the fin / mast. jet1.jpg jet2.jpg To Notafraidtotry: do...

Re: Electric Hydrofoil/E-Foil

@notafraidtotry your project looks cool! pls post some results here. one thing though... I think your 3D printed wings should have not been split like that. they should have an overlap of 10-15cm (otherwise its too much stress in the split area) curious about the progress (especially the 3D printed...

Re: Electric Hydrofoil/E-Foil

A friend and I have decided to jump on the Electric surfboard bandwagon and the foil idea seems to be the best in terms of efficiency and probably simpler to build (famous last words). I have a 3D printer so have made a start on both a Jet Pump similar to those from Mhz Watercraft and also a 3D prin...
