Re: Motor Over Heating Problems

WIth brushed motors, if you switch the leads, the motor will run in reverse. Is it possible that the wires were switched so the motors were running against each other? (Longshot guess.) If you run two controllers, you will need to use smaller controllers or it will make the problem worse. Your probl...

Re: Motor Over Heating Problems

When your controller says 900w, that is the rating for continuous use. Usually a controller can output maybe double the power of its rating. The best way to understand what your controller's maximum output is to look at its maximum amps. It should say on the controller the maximum amps. For example,...

Re: Throttle %

Hi: I think the best way to do it is simply putting a resistor from the positive leg of the throttle to the signal leg of the throttle. You could then put a push-button on the handlebars to make the connection happen. Push-button: http://elifebike.com/peng/iview.asp?KeyID=dtpic-2012-91-9KQ2.361NB Yo...

Re: 52t sprocket hitting my frame

Hi Team: I think I found the solution: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=36416 I measured the diameter of the bottom bracket, and its about 1 3/8 inches (35mm). This spacer is made by a company called "Hope." I guess they have that name because you have to hope this thing is the...

Re: 52t sprocket hitting my frame

Thanks for the input, you guys. My major challenge is finding a design that I can build quickly and cheaply to sell to others. I can buy these sprockets for $22.00 at a distributor. Doing things like buying a new bottom bracket will add more cost that I will have to pass on to the buyer. That makes ...

52t sprocket hitting my frame

Hi: I'm trying to install a 52t sprocket on my bike, but the teeth of the sprocket are rubbing against the frame. In this picture, you can see that if I tighten the retaining bolt, the teeth of the sprocket will contact the white bar on the frame. Is there some kind of spacer I can use? I'm trying t...

Re: Help Me install BPM axle

Thanks chvidgov.bc.ca: I think the KU123 controller is too big for your 10Ahr battery. I regularly see spikes to 1300 watts on 16S LifPo4 which is well over 25 amps. I'm learning to trust the labels on these controllers. I agree this is a problem. I've since switched to a 17.5 amp controller: http:/...

Re: Help Me install BPM axle

Hi dev: As usual, you're right again. It wasn't the battery. I hooked-up a watt meter, and tested two different batteries: Battery1: 15s 10ah lifepo4 @ 49v Battery2: 16s 10ah lifep04 @52v I tried giving it a light load by slowly accelerating up a 4% hill: According to the watt meter here is the maxi...

Re: Help Me install BPM axle

Hi Dev8: As usual, you're exactly right. I was thinking about bending the plate to eliminate the rattle, but I didn't know if it would work. I may just try denting the edges to make it tight. Its nice to know that I'm not just wrecking my new battery. I checked the white speed-control wires already....

Re: Help Me install BPM axle

Hi Y'all: Here's what's happening. I mounted the battery, and took it for a test ride. It is very slow. On flat ground, I get exactly 16 mph. The good news is that I get 15mph up a 4% hill, This is a BPM Code 14 motor. Shouldn't it be faster? I'm using a battery that was sold to me as a 48v 10ah Lif...

Re: Pick a bike with BIG FLAT REAR DROPOUTS

Good advise! Where did you guys get those nice looking "old-school" torque arms? I like the ones in the pictures--digman's and neptronix. Please let me know where to find them.

Re: Help Me install BPM axle

Hi dev: Thanks for the help: It seems to me that you've got a bit of a mismatch between your components. At 48v, you're on the limit at 15 amps, so a 9 FET controller will blow that motor I was under the impression that it could handle 17 amps at 48v. Now I'm leaning towards the same setup with the ...

Re: Help Me install BPM axle

The axle is is in the middle of the drop-out because it's one of those really cheap bikes. With the derailleur fully home on the other side, the axle has to be half-way up the slot for the wheel to be straight. That's exactly right. I can't believe you knew that! :) Those torque arms look excellent...

Re: Help Me install BPM axle

Hi dg: I'll show you how I did it, and you can let me know if I can improve it. First, I found a torque washer form an old bike. It is on the left side with the half nut: So on that side it has a torque washer and the steel frame. On the other side, the derai...

Thanks lbz5mc12. I see what you're saying. I'll try that. The fit was very tight, I need to really push on it to get the extra few mm of separation. Thanks doc. So you guys are real doctors. Very impressive. I thought you were just using the names i.e. Doctor-is-in-the-house, doctor-of-love etc. I ...

Re: Help Me install BPM axle

Hi: Thanks for your help. I've solved the problems: I found these nuts at a fastener super-store called "King Bolt." The nut on the left is perfect for maximum friction against the frame. The one on the right is narrower so I used it as the spacer to separate...

Re: Help Me install BPM axle

Hey. Thanks. Now I see it in the diagram. The threads are 12mmX1.25. Thanks dg. I wrote to BMS Battery, and they aren't responding to my emails. I've heard from others here that BMSBattery will no longer respond to email after they ship the product. I didn't get the bags of parts you mentioned. Just...

Re: Help Me install BPM axle

Hi chisixer6: Thanks for the help. So the spacer that you talked about is just a 12mm inside diameter tube right? Does that normally come with the motor? What is the standard set-up you get when you buy from a normal vendor? (not a scumbag like BMSBattery) I've already gone to two hardware stores a...

Help Me install BPM axle

Hi: I recently purchased a Bafang 48v 500w 201rpm (Code 14) motor from BMSBattery.com. They didn't include any nuts or torque washers with the motor. It Just had a bare axle. I would like to learn the proper way to install these hubs. The problem that I'm having is that there's no bolt to support t...

Re: Cute Q100 lightweight builds slow mtb, fast road

Great report chas. I'm really getting a good understanding of what these motors can do now. I think you found an excellent way to use the 328 RMP cute motor, but it seems to me that most users would do best with the slower RPM version. For me, I learned that I can't rely on it as a solo high speed m...

Re: Bafang Bpm, how many RPM?

Also, now I've discovered that there are no bolts or washers included in my kit. When I received the wheel, the axles had nothing on them. No bolts, washers, or torque washers. I've screwed on a 7 speed freewheel, but now I've discovered another problem. The freewheel protrudes so that if I placed ...
