Re: Giant cruiser budget build

I like the wood, but I wouldn't use aged wood. I'd make it look clean and new.

Hmmm. How 'bout this? https://www.novosport.de/206/bikes-products/cogito https://www.novosport.de/images/2583/lastencogito-580.jpg Didn't see a U.S. dealer and its probably expensive. Backing up a bit. If you aren't planning on frequent 100+ mile days and are shooting for 50-ish instead, then an upr...

Re: Weight Load

I was originally going to look for a mountain bike but then the recumbent debate started and so I started to look into those as well. Searching for recumbents brings up a lot of information about trikes so I looked at those too. The donor bike in question here is for a Sun seeker fat-tad cxs tadpol...

Re: Weight Load

I like the donor bikes options but the weight limit concerns me being that I weigh 230lbs. I would like to build the bike myself with a DD motor but how do I determine the builds weight limit? Would something like the Xtracycle improve the weight limit? How does a trailer affect the weight limit? H...

Re: Toy car batttery replacement

I'm assuming the two batteries are in parallel and delivering 12 volts nominal? 5s would give you over 20 volts when fully charged. The most I'd go would be 4s. But even that would be 16.8 fully charged - a good 2 volts over what the electronics are expecting to see (14v or so max). Others would hav...

Re: Poor Man's RV

I think the better generality is that longer wheelbase bikes tend to make better cargo bikes than shorter wheelbase ones. Note that Warren's recumbent is a long recumbent built from a tandem recumbent. He he uses it to haul recycling among other things. https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.ph...

Re: Opinions on Slime (or similar products)?

I have my doubts about how effective sealant in tubes can be. In the event the tube is torn or sliced, the sealant won't work, so it's only effective if whatever caused the puncture stays in place. That's not really true. My tire and tube were cut and the tube sealed in a few seconds and stayed sea...

Re: Donor for tall guys

Well, applied a coat of paint on the forks and not happy at all with the results. Try as I might, with 3-4 small coats every 10-15 mins, the texture is horrible. Holding off on the frame until I can ensure that I can smooth this out. Agreed. Not sure if maybe its the actual nature of the paint (I d...

Re: Opinions on Slime (or similar products)?

Interesting. You'd think centrifugal force would keep the Slime away from the valve. But speaking of Slime, a bottle of it saved my bacon this last Saturday when I had a flat that was caused by a crack/cut in the rubber about 1/8" from base of the Presta valve for my front inner tube. I had to try t...

Re: Donor for tall guys

Hard to go wrong with Fire Engine Red IMO. I didn't sand except where I had some small runs on the sides of my fender. But then, I never had any orange peel. I'm pretty sure I used 0000 steel wool lightly between (fully dried) coats - wiping with a damp cloth afterwards. I think I sprayed before goi...

You are right J.K. Spruce 1 and 2 are still polluting our air and my EV is a coal burner. I did not realize that they just put Spruce 2 online 2010. I will start fact checking before posting. It's probably a cleaner burning plant than the one they retired. Nobody knows everything or even close to i...

This is crude and way too long for how simple the project is, but it shows how simple this can be. Maybe an electronics guy can suggest how to smooth out the impulses with a capacitor if you don't want flashing?

Re: Giant cruiser budget build

Well, to keep it looking era, it should have in internal hub gear set, not a derailer and freewheel. Then you get a simple thumb shifter that would be exactly what the era calls for Oops! Went back and looked. You are going with an internal hub. So yeah. Just an era thumb shifter. If you want to fan...

Re: Giant cruiser budget build

I think you can find examples from the 40s and the 50s that are either busy or plain. I think the aesthetic was pretty similar. The top tube drop of your frame is clearly not like either of the bikes shown and I frankly don't recall a drop like than in vintage bikes. I could be wrong, but that seems...

Most of you guys seem to miss a quite important point: all the quantities you mention are actually "theoretical exploitable resources considering today's extraction technologies and cost of said extraction". Exactly. Most of the dire predictions are made using an assumption of the sort , "given the...

Both Chalo and neptronix are way more optimistic than me. Sometime between now and 2050 we will have major grain harvest failures. It won't matter if you live in the city, or the suburbs, or the country. Our fragile veneer of civilization will fall away, and the hairless apes we pretend not to be w...

Definitely not jealous of someone who "needs" artificial augmentation to do what he does. Contemptuous, almost surely. Misplaced contempt, almost as surely. Assuming there's a degree of seriousness (that it wasn't just a joke) to the comment, yes, I think contempt is probably it. Many of these road...

You don't say anything about budget. That will factor in at some point of course. Re: Juicing Up Pictures

The 42A in the HLG model is deceiving because its 42V and 7.65A which is good power. My MW HRP's were 12-24V and 16A I do believe on a split pack. The LED PSU's are ideal, thats for sure! Yeah, the 42A means 42 volts A djustable, not 42 amps. The 320H means 320 watts. My meter reads 8.3 amps output...

I stopped using my computer power supply had hobby charger rig about a year ago when I installed a MeanWell HLG-320H 42A "charger" in the bottom of my milk crate. But oddly, I've never really looked for places to charge while I'm on the road. That's mostly because I usually have plenty of battery. B...
