Re: My first diy battery pack, need helps!

If you do get the electric welder, replace the probe wires with 6 gauge pure copper welding cables (you can buy pure copper cables for less then 20 on ebay). I also recommend the battery powered welders, I use the malectric tab welder (about 100 dollars). The electric welder sunko I read reviews whe...

Re: Computer PC fans label states 12V 600mA good for 19.50V?

it wont last long at all. Those 12 volt cooling fans burn out quickly after 15 volts. I burned out about 5 of them due to voltage surges. I had to use a voltage stabilizer to feed those fans. they are very sensitive to voltage spikes. I had an overvoltage relay that was suppose to cutoff power when ...

Re: Best Value for Money Battery Tab Spot Welder on the Market!!

thats the kweld portable welder, there is a thread here on it, its a good one. I got the malectric one which cost 100 euros thats also a good one. The portable ones running off batteries seem to be more reliable then the plug-in ones which on reviews require a powerful wall socket or they blow circu...

Re: Battery Pack Questions (new to this stuff)

you can build 2 x 8s3p packs and just connect the two batteries with balance connectors and use a y-connector to charge both packs. You can put the BMS close to where the charger is where it can feed both packs equally. If you put the BMS on one pack and charge it from there, the other pack will cha...

Re: using simple balance boards

I use those before, there balancing capability is about 60 ma, some can do higher. But they only work when charging at low amps, if you are charging at high amps it will always trip your battery bms since the high cell won't be bleeding fast enough. You can leave connected all the time, they only st...

Re: 200Ah 12V battery bank (18650)

3s will charge quicker because the voltage is lower, with the 4s, your going to have to up the charge voltage to get them fully charge. If you build it yourself 3s will be easier to build. 200 ah of 4s will be many more cells. My 94ah battery pack was 156 cells. Myself if I had to build another 1865...

Re: Bulk charging?

Get something like this to monitor the balancing if you will be bulk charging. You will probably need 3 but they cost 10 dollars each. This tenergy monitor will sound an alarm if any cell goes over 4.22 volt. Other monitors only alarm when over discharge. I had too many battery pack go out of balanc...

Re: Will LiFePO4 save me from having to charge in ammo cans?

All I can add is that lifepo4 is not any safer then li-ion. They will catch on fire. I had one of the 26650 a123 cells catch on fire while I was removing it from a battery pack. It was my fault I shorted out the cell which punched a hole on the side of the can. I heard the pressure escaping then saw...

Re: Is my 12v LiFePO4 Battery dead?

On my lifepo4, it needs the active balancers all the time, I disconnected them before and the unbalance condition returns. The active balancers I use never get hot, but in your situation, a good idea would be to put a fan blowing on the balancers that turns on whenever your charging. They only heat ...

Re: Is my 12v LiFePO4 Battery dead?

active balancer are always balancing whether charging or discharging, it keeps battery from drifting out of balance and the balancing amps per cell is up to 10 amps peak (6 amps constant). This will keep up when you charging at high amps(fast charging). I can charge my battery at 15 amps until its a...

Re: Is my 12v LiFePO4 Battery dead?

You can use active balancers and just keep using it. My 12 volt lifepo4 also has one cell that has always been low, when charging it reads 3.40 volts while the other 3 read 3.60 volts. I wasn't going to rebuild the pack with new cells. Last year I bought some active balancers, and the battery has st...

The best balancers, are the active balancers. I use it on my 4s 110ah lifepo4 that is charged from my 240 watt solar panel/mppt controller. You can get them in 6s versions. My panel maxes out at about 15 amps charge power and the balancers easily handle that. They aint cheap, I payed 92 dollars last...

I use these 4 amp usb load tester to bleed high cells, these work great if you not charging at too high amps. Even most balance chargers bleed at less then 1 amp. If your charging at 16 amps and the battery is very unbalanced, this will keep up with it, the charger will still be charging at 16 amps ...

Re: Bad cell in parallel group - What will happen?

Usually you will have balancing problems. If you take the pack apart you might find something obvious like a loose solder connection. But usually when I start testing the suspect cells, I always find a cell that self discharges too fast. Just one cell like that will cause balancing problems. If you ...

This small 6s tenergy checker would be good to use especially when charging, it actually will set off a loud alarm if a cell voltage reaches 4.22. Would only be useful if your within range to hear the alarm. Cost is 10 dollars but they work good, its cheap insurance. As far as lifepo4 being safer, f...

it depends also on how much amps you plan on using? For a 5s4p pack I build to power a ryobi 18 volt hot glue gun I use a cheap 15 amp 5s bms that cost me 8 dollars. It doesnt have any balancing function, but they sell 5s bms with a balance function. As long as you plan to slow charge your battery p...

Re: Connectors for a 16.8V pack 10A

I would say no, the pins where the wires are solder are extremely small, for small gauge wire. I use those connectors before and I wouldnt run any large amps (at low voltage) through them, maybe 5 amps. Even though small gauge wire can handle 10 amps at (low voltage) they will get quite warm. What k...

what size gauge wire are you using? My advice is to get 6 gauge pure copper welding wire. Its thick and heavy but works great. It has overcharge protection, but you won't be able to charge it too fast, it suppose to be charged with a small 12.6 volt wallwart less than 1 amp. You charge it with too high amps it might go out of balance and trigger the bms, it won't get a full charge. Slow charge is better for these small batt...

battery a.jpg I put the picture here. To me it looks like a 4s10p battery pack. cell fuses are so if one of the single cells shorts out, it blows out the fuse instead of overheating and possibly melting wires and catching on fire. If a single cell shorts out it acts like a giant fuse that won't blo...
