Re: 30Ah 28s LiPo from 7s bricks

Very nice Nuxland! Looks like those LiPO's are doing the job nicely, 8kg lighter, 5AH more, while pushing out more amps.

Did you measure any temperatures?

Re: (semi)-solderless design: Attaching cells with solder tags using brass bolts

...the added risks of compression joint resistance I do get your point but is it not a bit overrated? I mean there are people (e.g. Shawn McCarty with batteryblocs) who have been using magnets and compression for years without issues apparently. Also we're all using XT90-like connectors to connect/...

Re: Li-ion cells cycle ageing

Thank you for performing this tests!! There are interesting statistics about these cells. The Sony VTC6 will have reached the 700 cycles soon. The other cells soon after. What cells are you going to test after? That is actually a very good question :) I've always been intrigued about RC LiPO cycle ...

Hey guys. Hope everyone has had a good holiday and that the fat jolly man brought you all lovely e bike bits you wanted. Please note this sales thread was started 4 years ago, when the product was released. Then it was very interesting to get some feedback and these ...

Polycarbonate is a good choice, impact resistant but scratches easily, if scuffs dont matter its a good choice, I opt for black polycarbonate in my battery case builds now.

I would have to recommend the Samsung 20S or Samsung 30T or 40T if you want to tackle this, they punch a lot harder than the VTC6

Re: Sevcon Gen4 model designations?

Anyone know if some Gen4 are specialized in hardware? I have some S4-sevcon 634a83203 Also S6 that have been tested with both induction motors and PMAC. - 634a85203 Would the "203" relate to encoder type? I have a chance to buy S4s - 634a83310 The S6 were matched to 8kw PMAC. If the S4 will work on...

Re: LiFePO4 / Li ion Parallel pack, A123 hybrid for HighPower

I literally had this dilemma a couple of weeks ago and settled for the Samsung 20S cells which have a CDR of 30A with 250 cycles, now because the majority of the time you won't be at peak CDR all the time and you can under charge them to 4.1v to gain a few more cycles its not as bad as you may think...

Re: Battery options for electric kart

The eltek flatpack is about £200 used for a 3kw supply, a board for it costs £42, I already know how to configure it via CAN with an Ixxat, from the wealth of information out there and the fact I'm a software architect and have programmed Sevcon controllers I am 100% confident it wont be an issue. Re: Large drone motor for go kart

A problem with RC motors is the lack of torque, they focus on RPM primarily, if it cant provide enough torque you will need to gear it or slap a torque converter on it otherwise it will have trouble moving and will likely overheat. Look at a Motenergy motor, they are far cheaper and more suited to t...

Re: Battery options for electric kart

Its an extra layer of connectivity, nothing to be afraid of. i am not afraid, but it is a extral layer of complications and cost that is simply not needed. there is no need for a matched system to have the bms and charger to talk to eachother in the first place. they dont have anything to say to ea...

I will be using the Orion JR bms on the pack, and using an Eltek charger alongside it (they both communicate together via CAN)The idea is two packs connected in series both with their own bms please dont use canbus for this. its totally not needed for the charger to talk to the bms in applications ...

Just had a thought, I could just have the charger and bms as one unit, less weight and less complex battery system and all I need is a connector that will integrate all 16 bms leads and main power. My controller handles under and over voltage and current so I don't exactly need to double up on it, a...

Thanks guys for the input, lots to re-evaluate, if I'm selling these packs on I think high rate 18650 is the best choice for my own piece of mind as they are arguably a safer format. A few comparisons against would be; Turnigy Graphene 8AH 6S 15C - 120 amps cont - 1.1kg - £90 (pack I use now for com...

Re: Battery options for electric kart

what are your controller limits in voltage? getting the maximum voltage means you notice less amp losses and the amps are lower in general. you can also use a controller that is "power aware" like a sevcon so you can enact limits based on kW instead of amps (or both) that should even out the perfor...

Re: Battery options for electric kart

To be specific LiPo is an issue because of maintenance with storage voltage, LifePo4 is an issue because of extra weight and cost, 18650 has an issue with the steep discharge curve. I'm looking for ways to mitigate those problems so I can evaluate my options with a better understanding. If you want ...
