I wondered that too, It might be custom firmware?

That is too much backlash for sure. I would say it never had enough lube and caused some wear?

Re: New "TSDZ2 Torque Sensor Central Motor"

Regarding the overheating issues. My other Hobby is flying R/C electric planes. Its very common for builders to inadvertently over prop and exceed the limits of their motors or batteries. Electric motors will just produce as much as you ask for without any signs of stress. Unlike a gasoline engine t...

Re: New "TSDZ2 Torque Sensor Central Motor"

People complain that its hit and miss trying to get into the menu, it always takes me several tries. I don't know if its just a precise time window you have to hold them? Most likely it has to do with simultaneous pressing of the buttons. Its hard to press and release them at precisely the same time...

Re: New "TSDZ2 Torque Sensor Central Motor"

There is a reason why the hacked firmware people refuse to post in the actual modified firmware thread, and that reason is there was not a big enough audience so they returned to advertise it here. The problem is these advertisements take up like 80% of the posts now and has completely commandeered...

Re: New "TSDZ2 Torque Sensor Central Motor"

I really don't think anything needs to change with this thread. People can follow along as much as they are able and give input when they feel like it. A small group of really smart people are doing the deep thinking and its good that this thread brings them together for brainstorming. We have to ex...

Re: New "TSDZ2 Torque Sensor Central Motor"

I also get bored with the techno talk but think it needs to happen and we should encourage it. These people are spending a great deal of their personal time and money into improving the product. Eventually they will get things optimized and either sell us upgraded units or make it easy enough for us...

Re: Mid drive for an old BikeE

Consider the Tongsheng TSDZ2 torque sensing mid drive. Super easy installation on 68-72mm bottom brackets. The operation is very transparent and natural. You just feel stronger than you were before.

Re: How much power is too much for a standard mtb?

I am admittedly at one end of the spectrum. My 350 watt TSDZ2 drive is enough to make a 60 year old guy ride like he was 20 again. At 61 I still want the same exercise but now I can run the same pace I had in my younger days. I wouldn't want it any easier, I just want that same feeling I had when I ...

Re: New "TSDZ2 Torque Sensor Central Motor"

Looking at the motor from the left side,... the motor will want to torque clockwise under load.

Azur appears to put his stopper bolt on the wrong side and even if it did rotate the opposite way it would hit the swingarm which is a moving part. He is still relying entirely on locknut torque.

Re: New "TSDZ2 Torque Sensor Central Motor"

I have the same problem with rotating motor and no place to get a fixture because of my "fully" bike. Yesterday i had an idea and wanted to share with you. It replaces the factory-provided piece of metal and locks down with the screw of the rear swing... Any comments on this? WhatsApp Image 2018-07...

Re: New "TSDZ2 Torque Sensor Central Motor"

Wow I have never used the plate. I just use a thick piece of rubber between the frame and motor to stop it rubbing against the frame. I use the plastic washers from my old bottom bracket on each side and tighten up the large locking nut. It hardly ever comes loose even after a hard day out mountain...

unplug the magnet speed sensor and try it. You don't need the sensor to run but it will cause problems if bad or the air gap is not right.

Re: PaulD's lightweight mid drive development

Put me in the small category of people who have no use for anything over 350 watts. I have the 36 volt TZDS2 and it has just the right amount of power to make me feel young again. I stay in the middle two levels and feel like I used to at my peak fitness 20 years ago. I have dirt bikes if I feel the...

Re: New "TSDZ2 Torque Sensor Central Motor"

A number of people have commented on what appears to be excessive radial and axial clearance in bearings. Some of the bearing fits in my unit are very loose. That on the non drive side of the spindle is very loose on the shaft and in bearing housing. The drive end of the spindle is a sliding fit in ...

Re: New "TSDZ2 Torque Sensor Central Motor"

I am getting a clunking sound on my motor, when I first got the motor it would happen every now and then but maybe only once every 1/2 mile or so. Now it is doing it quite frequently, and the crank is always in the same position when it happens. Sometimes it will happen 10 times in a row on each re...

Re: New "TSDZ2 Torque Sensor Central Motor"

Thanks to those who supplied the bearing numbers, that will save a lot of time for me. I wish we could by a rebuild kit.

As for upgrades don't forget there is a new sprocket holder that is heavier and has a real oil seal in it. Its a black color and the old style is silver.

Re: New "TSDZ2 Torque Sensor Central Motor"

The creaking is almost certainly a loose locknut holding the motor to the frame. These are a fairly sloppy fit through the bottom bracket and need to be locked down tight to prevent creaking.

Re: New "TSDZ2 Torque Sensor Central Motor"

I have a brass gear on standby but am waiting until I get more time for a tear down. I am much more annoyed by the loose fit of the bearings that cause the crank to have side play. That play can't be good for gear mesh on the larger reduction gear. Also I want to check gear backlash on the blue gear...

John, as we have said , each of us wants different set ups for their motor, hence the good work being done by casainho on this thread. Don't just ignore the speed sensor,.. unplug it to see if its a problem. Mine gives erratic operation when connected regardless of magnet gap.

Its amazing how everyone needs or wants something different and Im not being disrespectful. I have the lowly 36 volt version and ride mostly off road in level 2. Re: New "TSDZ2 Torque Sensor Central Motor"

For some people with mystery symptoms you might look at the magnetic speed sensor. My assist would cut in and out or just seem reduced at times. I read that the magnet can be too close so I adjusted and it seemed to help but not cure the problem. I finally disconnected it and the assist now works fi...

Re: New "TSDZ2 Torque Sensor Central Motor"

I think you start to work the cells too hard on a 2P 6AH pack as far as amperage. Higher AH packs run in the comfort zone with good longevity if that matters to you. I know the battery life is relative to how hard you work them. I have a 5P 17.4AH pack which lasts me for 4 good rides or more. Im tem...
