Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

Without taking it apart, is there a way to tell how the are wired? to a load that it can support in full sun, then shade one of the squares to see if the output falls on its face. Honestly, I think this (very crudely) is a better setup - more room for gear and less extreme angles in the panel. Than...

What's the open circuit voltage of the whole thing?

Small solar panels are often configured for 12V applications, so they'll have a sunlit open circuit voltage of about 18V.
DC output voltage: 18V /5.56A Max

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

My thinking with different angles was that it is kind of an average - versus with a plane they all could be at the wrong angle. If they're in series, the worst one will bottleneck all the others. There's no averaging. If they're in parallel, then it's more or less as you say, as long as they're dio...

P.S.

The panel puts out usable juice even with indirect light and/or in the shade.

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

You'd best put all those panels on the same horizontal plane. The way they're arranged now, at least one of them will be poorly illuminated at any given time. If they're in series, that will bring the performance of the entire array down to that of the most shaded panel. I'll see how it works - can...

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

Building a cart primarily out of the stock fork! Pic is rough layout - have plans to add a shock. I suppose it will partially power my ride direct from the sun - any excess electrons will get dumped to the pack. It will also have some saddle bags on the cart for excursions. https://3dtopo.com/IMG_72...

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

Handy 3-n-1 machine and very nice optical(?) table. The spark is the inverter's bulk filter capacitors charging up. You need to precharge them or use something like an anti-spark connector (AS90) to do so. Fuse your battery connection as close to the battery as practical. That MPPT has to be a POS ...

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

Here's my complete system, everything works! https://3dtopo.com/IMG_7185.jpg I charged the battery with the solar for the first time yesterday. 8) I just have one 100 watt panel for now - going to get another. It weighs 5 pounds and 16x16 inches. The harness is wired for three panels (and the MPPT I...

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

Got it! Where did you find a 60-70V MPPT and inverter? 12/24/48V are pretty common but not higher LiPo voltages. Edit: The SurRon BMS open circuits when it reaches full. You're going to have to be really careful if running an inverter from it also. https://amzn.to/3N6lvee The Sur Ron charges to 67....

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

Inverter runs from the storage battery to make 120Vac. Ballpark 85% efficient. SurRon charger converts 120Vac to 60Vdc to charge the bike. Lets say that 90% efficient for sake of argument. I'm not planning on using the Sur Ron charger. It's like this: Solar Cell -> MPPT Controller -> Sur Ron batter...

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

Understood (for your "computer and Starlink"). Just saying there may be a more efficient charge method if you ever need to go that route. I'm in the business and bought one of the higher eff inverters (Cotek.) I only have ~500W of solar on the van and ~5kWh of storage. Trying to run effic...

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

FWIW, the Nucular controller lets you charge w/ the converter straight from a battery source. You can skip the inverter inefficiencies. Not sure if other aftermarket converters can do this. I'm still needing to add some connectors so I can charge our SurRons from the 24V 'house' battery in my RV/va...

I've ordered what I need to go full solar for the Sur Ron. :bolt: Got solar cells, MPT controller and a continuous 2KW inverter so I can run my computer and Starlink from practically anywhere and during the just announced preemptive "extreme fire danger" blackouts. Of course, it also means...

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

Super light is certainly very appealing. The techniques you mentioned to get there are of course time consuming and expensive... but may be very entertaining to you. ...a good heavy tire for 10kw+ bikes. Looks pretty dope. I'm actually leaning the other way; I'm fine with the stock power but want to dramatically reduce the weight. It's not hard to imagine a 26" fat-bike tubeless tire and rim could easily be be 5-7 pounds lighter than a 18" 4" mx ...

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

Fat bike tires are much more susceptible to flats than m/c tires, Well I run tubeless. Where I live I just have never had to ride home on a flat since going tubeless on all my rides. My Sur Ron MX tires have been tubeless for years, and so has my fat bike and Yeti. Kind of a moot point when fat is ...

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

I guess If I run a taller tire in the back (say also an 1" taller) I guess I would get the slacker back? You can use Rear Suspension Linkage Riser to fix the geometry. https://www.warp9racing.com/product/surron-rear-suspension-linkage-riser/ Can someone confirm that those risers increases the ...

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

What size is the fat tire? I think it will be hard to fit one in the rear due to chain clearance. Supposedly 4" x 26". But I just measured it and actual width measures at 3.8" (note to self: a wider tire will easily fit in the front) It just fits in the swing arm with about 3-4mm of ...

I know rockin' a mullet is nothing new, but a fatty on my Sur Ron is new to me! https://3dtopo.com/sur_ron_fat.jpg So my Killah has been uselessly worn out for far too long. Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

TuBliss doesn't use any sealant, it's just regular air, isn't it a perfect solution then? And as far as I can understand you can run 0 psi on the outer "tube", and pitching an inner tube is not easy at all. Even if you do, you can probably have a regular tube with you in case the worst th...

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

To be clear - if Chalo would have just said something like he is not a fan of tubeless, then fine. Nothing to argue about. But he was telling me some day I will live to regret running tubeless, how the very notion of tubeless is some kind of disgraceful scam, and everyone running tubeless are “wanke...
