Re: I designed a simple 3D-printed solderless battery pack.

You're welcome. You are on the right track. There are similar designs floating around or already in production. Having several to compare each aspect of their design is a good thing for all of us.

Re: I designed a simple 3D-printed solderless battery pack.

That might work fine at the negative end, but the entire bottom and sides are charged with the Negative. This means vibration can cause anything that is rubbing against the shoulder on the positive end can wear through and cause a short. You might add some additional protection to just barely cover ...

Re: Ferrite as a stator material?

Cedric Lynch could have used a motor style with very thin laminations, but I was under the impression that he was seeking very high efficiency in a specific size of motor package. His aero semi-recumbent E-motorcycle was his vision of a light and cheap single-rider vehicle to reduce the use of 4,000...

Re: All-In-One Motor

There are plenty of motors that use a solid axle with the wires coming out the side of the motor. I can see where that would make modifying the insides of the motor space easier. I think what you described at one point was an outrunner. An inrunner and outrunner both have a rotor and [stationary] st...

"...or 1 time 8074..." So far, I haven't built a better motor & controller set up than the 6-turn, 2-in hand, 14G, dlrk/wye terminated motor...run the thing with a 12 or 18-FET xie-chang with a 6-Kw limit on 20 LiPo cells & you will not find a better RC power combination [with external hall sensors]...

Re: My first massive controller with these connectors

Copper oxidizes easily (turns from bright red to dull brown) and that thin oxide film is less conductive. It's not a huge problem at higher voltages (indoor 120V AC), but on an outdoor 12V system like cars, corrosion is a constant struggle. The coating is likely to be tin or possibly zinc. If it was...

Thanks for taking the time to find those, I appreciate your effort.

Unless somebody stops me, that Yeeco 5-Amp for $40 is looking pretty sweet.

Hey, the shell that the ultra bolts up to, is it aluminum or steel? Does Bafang have both, or only one?

Advice? ebike battery to variable DC/DC step-down converter

I already have a robust potted DC/DC that takes 36V-60V and converts that to 12V for ebike lights, radio, etc...(search ebay for "golf cart DC/DC"). I have wanted a variable input/output DC/DC converter for a while (for a variety of projects). The push right now for me is that the kCap uses 6V-8V DC...

Re: I bought an E Bike for my wife but she says its to slow

Plenty of ebikers are happy with 250W. But...if she wants more power, I say why not? Hard to say how much power she would be happy with until she takes a test ride. My "go to" answer is a 52V BBSHD with three gears on the rear wheel IGH, or 6-speed mega-range freewheel and derailleur. That's my favo...

Re: Knight Electric Motorcycle 5000w

At 72V, 5000W / 8000W is 70A and 110A.

As much as $1000 is worth saving, buying the lead acid and making my own lithium battery is not the only consideration. The 8000W is certain to have a much larger controller to handle the extra 40A

I'm certain they have threaded mounts to screw-in mirrors. All three pics look like they were taken at the same shipping facility. It's a safe assumption that the vendor got a shipment from the wholesaler and simply needed to rapidly unbox the three colors he had in order to take pics for the sales ...

Re: Fiat Chrysler pays millions...

People who pay extra to get the diesel engine as an option have been polled to see why. The majority liked the high torque and good fuel mileage. The mileage is improved by running lean, but doing that results in higher nitrides of oxygen / NOx. The software was written to sense when the emissions a...

Cheap gas...
I've seen several cycles before in the economy and ebike sales. Cheap gas is a major factor in US customer purchases. It's $1.85/gal right now near me in N.E. Kansas.

Re: Zero 2012 XU

I think your best bet is to look for Chevy Volt cells. Their side dimension is 177mm X 127mm.

The capacity of each cell is 15-Ah. There may be a better option, but these are reasonably affordable, available, and they will fit.

Does that shipping cost have a break-down you could post? Some places have a Value Added Tax / VAT, and many countries have a customs fee. There might even be other charges that a dealer shipping from one US state to another US state would not be affected by...

Re: Waterproof your controller connectors on the cheap

Good job, it is obvious that this is much better than the stock connectors flapping in the breeze. I'd like to suggest something that I believe will be a small improvement. Have all the wires enter the plastic junction box from one opening, and locate that opening facing downwards. A sort of "drip l...

Re: Waterproof wire nuts vs soldering connections

Wire nuts work fine on 120V house connections. The higher volts can easily penetrate mild oxidation (copper is brown instead of bright reddish). Plus...houses don't experience the same moisture, vibration, and jolts that an ebike experiences... Even if a wire nut holds the connection for a year, it ...

Are the kits you are looking at including the battery pack? Or just the drive unit kit?
