Re: What generally causes hall failure?

I was once in a south-east Asian country, and on a whim I bought an acoustic 6-string guitar as a souvenir (hoping I would learn to play someday...I never learned to play guitar) After making my selection, they asked what label I wanted on it. I was confused until they showed me the selection. I cou...

Re: Bitcoins

I believe the US dollar is a safe currency, except for inflation. The US government can "print money" as much as it likes, which causes inflation, meaning the existing dollars are worth less. But there is a price. During the late 1970's, there was "double digit" inflation, and pr...

Re: How many watts do I need?

A mid drive with only 5-mph will be geared very low. Smallest chainring and a large-diameter sprocket on the rear wheel. A standard-issue BBS02 at 52V can easily do this. The rohloff is expensive. If the external gearing is correct for 5-mph, then a cheap 3-speed IGH will be fine (Nexus, Sturmey, et...

It's in the link Chalo provided, although it was not given its own chart. helmet usage has helped improve safety the first U.S. helmet laws were proposed in California in 1986, and many states started implementing their own helmet laws focused on children shortly thereafter helmet laws and helmet us...

Re: Motor maximum temps

If I installed a temp sensor on the hottest part of the stator, I'd limit temps to 140F, and it should last until the two shaft bearings wear out. 140F is hot enough to burn your hand, but the outer shell will only feel warm. Hot copper windings have more resistance than cool windings, so its a situ...

Re: EGO 56V lawnmower motor

my last gas mower, I decided to treat myself and pay the extra $50 to get the power axle, and I suffered for decades pushing a cheap unpowered one up hills. EGO also has a smaller 20-inch blade model, with no power axle and a 5.0-Ah battery. I think its $100/$150 cheaper. I have 21-inch blade, 7.5-A...

Re: Which advice to follow???

All cells should be within 0.10V of each other, between the highest and lowest. I am certain that it is best to make the series connections first. That means the series current has the least amount of resistance when running. I am a fan of the copper/nickel sandwich method for series connections. Th...

Re: EGO 56V lawnmower motor

the first EGO item I bought was the weed trimmer, and I am VERY pleased with it. Based on that, the following year I bought the $550 mower with powered wheels. Its pricey, but I expect it to last a very long time, where before I would buy a new cheap gasoline mower every five years or so... The main...

Re: Bafang BBSHD has started cutting out after a few seconds...

The BMS doesn't know if the low voltage is a temporary short dip, or if it means that the battery is actually low.

When it sags down to below the "low voltage cutoff" / LVC...the power gets cut.

Sounds like the battery is sagging. I could be wrong, but if you have access to a second battery, swapping it might show if it's the drive or the battery...

Re: Fast/Slow winding - How to calc?

in the "non-hub" section, the thread stickie list has a link to a chart that spells out two formulas for calculating wheel-diameter to road-speed, and then simply lists a couple pages worth of RPM/ road-speeds for 20, 22, 24, 26, 29-inch wheels. Once you know the tire-OD and the top-speed ...

Re: EXTREMO - Scratch built 7kW billet frame scooter

Easy burnouts can be fun a couple of times, but...the novelty wears off and it quickly becomes tiring and expensive to replace the tires frequently. Power is not acceleration. Once you raise the power to the point where full throttle breaks the tires loose at all speeds, then any more power is a was...

Some motor chat at 8:52

A Carbon-fiber wrapped rotor allows a tighter air-gap and ultra-high RPM's up to 200-MPH on a one-speed drivetrain. 20,000-RPM's from the motor mentioned.

EGO 56V lawnmower motor

Sadly, it's brushed. He tested the RPM's twice using a cheap tach. It's a nice size for any kiddie vehicle project you can think of, but I doubt used ones will be easy to find. I suspect the mowers will last a very long time. I have one and I'm happy with it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGEyJ1uG...

This is a spec that is far away from being common, so nobody stocks it.

Its easily done by a chain-drive and a non-hub motor.
