Re: Your Creation's Before & After Pics

Aesthetics? There are pearls among the oysters, but you have to dig for them. I have asked permission from the builders to feature them, and here is an index, 90% found on ES https://www.electricbike.com/custom-builds-index/ To be fair, the vast majority of posts are not about "how can I make my bi...

Re: Trek report on becoming more visible (for electric velomobile)

In Minneapolis, I worry more about being too visible, especially at night where criminals target you. I few years back someone threw a molitov cocktail off an overpass onto the Greenway, narrowly avoiding hitting a cyclists. And during winter kids like to huck snowballs at people riding

Re: Evolution of a 1st ebike....

The 4300 with the hub motor will probably get a new and better Rockshox for trail riding. Much better choice! I've got an older Trek 7000 - same frame and geometry as your 4300, just nicer component specs. It's taken a real beating to the point where i'm simply amazed i haven't cracked any of the w...

Re: Evolution of a 1st ebike....

While my 4300 has evolved into a great daily commuter bike, this Navigator seems like it would make a great light duty trail exploring bike with a BBSHD. It's been nice following along with your upgrades. Just be careful offroading the Navigator. A lot of people have snapped those comfort bike susp...

Re: Giant Trace Full Suspension + Bafang BBS02

Bummer! I had a bike stolen as a kid but police were able to recover it weeks later. It had been spray painted black to hide the shiny chrome finish. I was happy to get it back but the dam spray paint was too much work for a 12 year old kid to remove Keep us posted on what happens. BBS ultra would b...

Re: Electric bike has very stiff steering when in motion

What kind of headset is on the bike? Have you tried loosening it up a tad to see how the bike responds? EDIT: dogman dan beat me to it but i think it's an issue with the tightness or looseness of the headset. Try playing with the adjustment to see how the bike responds. I've had this issue before on...

Welcome to the forum and to Minneapolis! Those bikes you posted cover a wide range of sizes from kids to what looks like a size XL on that road bike. I say start with the best platform youre willing to buy so you save money on having to redo things in the future. With option #1 you could fit a batte...

Re: Unit Power Pack custom battery ordering questions

Sometimes people have helpful recommendations to ask for.... like asking for a spare BMS with your order. if you burn out the bms i would not fit the same one again... i woudl ask for external balance wires. That's a good idea. Looking into it more i dont think im going to use a BMS. I think...

Re: Mountain bike frame geometry tending to get longer and lonnnger

Newer DH bikes are longer, lower, more ‘pedalable’, as compared to the gravity bikes that we had before. They are not as strong though, getting lighter and skinnier. Yet the spread use and refinement in CF layering, had retained the stiffness of the overbuilt previous generation. They will be good ...

Mountain bike frame geometry tending to get longer and lonnnger

This trend could be good for eBikers in the future - with some manufacturers coming out with longer frames, effectively allowing us to fit more battery and have a more stable riding platform. For the longest time dirt bikes and downhill bikes have practically had the handlebars mounted on top of the...

Re: Unit Power Pack custom battery ordering questions

why would you need to specify such things for a "professional" battery builder? if you ask for certain discharge/charge specs one would assume they would build the pack to handle those currents with plenty of room to spare... just asking.... Sometimes people have helpful recommendations to ask for....

Unit Power Pack custom battery ordering questions

I will be ordering my first custom battery from Unit Power Pack (UPP) and am wondering if i'm missing anything. I'm looking to order a 72v 20s11p triangle pack (30Q), shrink wrapped with PVC with 50 amp BMS with balance charging, XT90 connector. I've gathered through reading this site that i should ...

Wow! What a difference! Dropping the bars this much really really makes the bike feel like a motorcycle now! Haha! Unfortunately I really need steer tube spacers and all I have to use is leftover hardware right now... Thankfully it works! The handlebars feel great! It's way more enjoyable to ride a...

Re: Giant Trance X1 build for MAX range

I installed a set of offset bushing from offsetbushings.com today. These lowered my bottom bracket height a small amount and slackened my headtube angle up to a degree and a half. I don't have anything to measure headtube angle that is accurate but i believe i'm sitting right where i want it to be. ...

Re: MANITOU SHERMAN SLIDER PLUS spv 170. opinions?

The fork was $100 so it was in my price point. I am surprised how heavy it is compared to the Bomber for on my other bike. I am happy with the purchase now to start ordering parts. Yes, they are very heavy for a 32mm fork. Crazy to think back in 2004 you could buy a 180mm Sherman, that came with 32...

Re: Giant Trance X1 build for MAX range

I have a 24s11p of GA cells, and I can charge at 18 amps safely without hurting cycle life. The battery box gets a little warm over ambient, but never hot, and you won't need to charge for more than 30 min anyways. Most high end li-ion cells can take a 0.5C charge no problem. Me, personally, I'd go...

Re: MANITOU SHERMAN SLIDER PLUS spv 170. opinions?

I rode a Sherman 150mm on my city mountain bike for a few years. I bought it for $50 and it was next to new when I bought it. This was back on 2014 so it was a dated fork by then. But It was nice and plush. I really liked that It slackened my headtube angle out. My bike original came with an 80mm fo...
