Re: GNG X1-pro 3000w

5kW on a mountain bike was a bit much for me in my last build. It was an accidental wheelie monster.

I have that now on my Sur Ron and it is much more manageable. 2-3 kW seems pretty good for a sub 50 lb mount bike.

Re: GNG X1-pro 3000w

Torque should be pretty much set by the max current, if the gear reduction and motor winds are about the same. But, I don't see how it matters as much with a mid drive, since we can increase torque by changing gearing. Horsepower should matter more. I'm hoping I can put my bike in the lowest gear po...

Re: GNG X1-pro 3000w

Yes; tried to avoid the brand because there are two Luna-haters who would denigrate them, me and/or the product. I weighed the battery, 1499 grams (3.3) pounds) AIR. Total weight of the GT Zaskar bike 10 pound BBS02 and battery about 34 pounds. Nice! My felt virtue one is 32 lbs as-is, so adding th...

Re: GNG X1-pro 3000w

A 52V, 6ah, 30q (14s, 2p) battery can power a 750w BBS02 for off road riding up to 20 miles with 2,000'+ climbing or 1000w rear hub (30 amp) system to 33 mph which it has done for the past year without any complaints. I know it's stressed beyond normal limits, but wanted to determine the capability...

Re: GNG X1-pro 3000w

My bad for forgetting about that company  That's gonna sag a lot on 3C ( 63A ), so hopefully you won't be pulling that continuous. I think if that pack had Samsung 25Rs in it instead, it'd be pretty ideal. Yeah, it sagged a bit, but didn't seem too bad. How would you draw 63A continuous? I on...

Re: GNG X1-pro 3000w

Well, it's said to be a 3000w rated motor and GNG has stated conservative figures in the past. I think it's safe to assume it's really a 3000w drive. If you want to hit the 3000W mark with 65A.. a 52V battery is your best bet. Unfortunately you are going to have a hard time finding a battery with t...

Re: GNG X1-pro 3000w

The BMS will do 50 amps continous, 70 amps peak. The cells will not. Look at the datasheet for the cells, and you will see what i mean. The GA is rated for 3C maximum continuous in a temperature controlled lab. Therefore, 3C is the absolute maximum in that situation - in an enclosed pack, much less...

Re: GNG X1-pro 3000w

The 52v one will do 50a continuous 70 amps peak. I have to imagine that the current limit will be lower at 72 volts. 65 amps at 72 volts is 4700 watts. I think the motor is only rated at 3000 watts. I'm aiming to go Max of 35 miles per hour, so I probably only need 1100 to 1200 watts continuous. I w...

Re: GNG X1-pro 3000w

Ok, just ordered a chain version. :flame: Want to have the option to mount it inside the frame. Had a long chat with them on FB, super nice help. The App looks very promising. 3 programmable ride options. Power/PAS/Throttle in any configuration. Very 25kmt/PAS only friendly. I have a 72v 25Ah batte...

Which version of this motor will give the best top speed
The Geared or Chain Version ?

By about how much would you estimate ?

Which version would go up paved mountain roads faster ?
If they have the same reduction ratio, they will perform the same.

Re: GNG X1-pro 3000w

You think that would be a good idea if I'm only using it at 100 rpm at the crank? 120 rpm max? 12s would be perfect for those speeds. Even if I restricted the rpm that low on 20s, wouldn't I be better off going 12s in the long run? The size of the pack is for decent range at 35 mph, a typical cruis...

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

How about putting a small 16s lipo pack in parallel with the main pack? You'd get ludicrous peak amps and a small increase in range. You might want to add another bms to balance the lipos, but it should otherwise be protected from overdischarge by being in parallel with the stock pack, as long as yo...

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

Luna Cycle has the Sur-Ron X bike on sale for $500 off on Cyber Monday, and I'm thinking about getting one. Good deal! Though, as we are learning, there may not actually be much difference. Though, I think the quieter controller and smoother throttle response is worth $100 more. I'm not sure if tha...

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

There's no Regen in the latest batch of x controllers. No speed increase as far as I can get. Exactly the same top speed, 42 MPH via GPS on both stock and the x controller.

What does your display indicate for top speed with the tire in the air? I get 52 MPH, so it could be power limited at top speed.

Ride was all sport mode and I took off hard at every stop. Sport Mode1 CA stats.jpg You can see the p...

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

Maybe 2 chains would be better. We don't know until someone measures the consumption of the motor alone. Belt drives can have quite high loss without load (around 3-4% maximum), but under load it usually outperforms the chaindrive. I don't know exactly why this is the case, but it might have someth...

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

Hard take off (current limiting) I measured 77A. Maybe my controller is 'hotter' than normal? It is the older trapezoidal style. The current limit seems to be very precise and it stays there until the speed picks up enough for the current to drop. Yow! That could be why we're not feeling a huge inc...

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

It would promptly set itself on fire as it would be discharging at a different rate. Not sure what you mean. It would discharge at the same amp rate since the lipo would be in series with the stock pack. It should work fine. You should use two 4s 16Ah lipos in parallel to try and match the capacity...

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

At the end of the day the pf is a budget cell......anything above 3A per cell will reduce the overall output significantly. What does the controller pull max? Just this on the original test bike from Sur-ron #27. Someone measured it as 65 amps peak from the battery, which optimisti...
